Carowinds: Auction Winners First Carolina Cobra Riders

Recommended Posts

CHARLOTTE – It was a rainy opening day for Carowinds Saturday, but a few dozen auction winners came out to claim their prize. They were the first to ride the Carolina Cobra, the theme park's new roller coaster.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation hosted the auction to raise money for wishes for critically ill children....

Also with video.

That video is good. Wouldn't it be awesome if Vekoma made Vortex new trains? (And yes I know that Vortex is Arrow, not Vekoma...)

I wouldn't mind seeing new trains for Vortex, but Im not sure how much they would help. I still think the main issue with Vortex and other Arrow multi loopers is the transitions in and out of elements and not the trains. Most Arrow multis were built and designed before the use of CAD in the industry. Look at the difference between Vortex and Tennesse Tornado and you will see what I mean.

True, but I think new trains could help out a little bit. I also get a tad bit of headbanging in the turnaround before the loops, the turn into the MCBR, and When entering the Batwing. The transitions are bad, but I think new trains could atleast reduce headbanging, or atleast have the OTRS's be soft so when you hit your head it won't hurt.

I actually rode the Carolina Cobra yesterday! I took a brief spring break vacation to Dollywood on Saturday and Carowinds yesterday. The new trains are very nice. The new restraints are very comfortable and are very nice. A benefit of the restraints is that they are much easier to use than the vest that can currently be found on Firehawk, as it is like a typical over the shoulder restraint.

I`m sure the ride will be a big hit down at Carowinds. Yesterday, we only waited about fifteen minutes to ride it!

Watch for a PTR of the Carowinds leg of the trip coming in the next few days.

From when I rode Carolina Cobra during its past life as Head Spin and Mind Eraser it only had the standard Vekoma OTSR's and lent itself like most boomers to great head banging. Glad to hear the new restrainst are better, but I dont think a standard OTSR would work well on Firehawk, how would these new OTSR's work? Could they even be feasible for a ride like Firehawk? I personally think the "vest" is a great style for Firehawk and makes the ride very comfortable.

^^To each their own, but I find boomerangs decently fun.

It was the 2nd most ridden coaster by me and my g/f at Darien Lake last summer (other than of course Superman), and it was a legitimate blast!!

Surprisingly smooth, comfy, no wait, no headbanging issues for us, and doing the loop and cobra roll in reverse is pretty fun! Mind you, after doing Hersheypark's boomer I got off it thinking, "F*ck that ride!" It was a rough, POS, headbanging mess and nothing like DL.

But if they're smooth, they can be a lot of fun, particular if there's no waiting to ride.

Carolina Cobra was relatively smooth, and offered a fun and intense ride. The crew was being very efficient in running the ride and getting people through quickly. I think that the restraints are pretty nice, and could improve some of the Arrow rides that suffer from rough transitions. And the trains seem to track really well to.
