hamoperator
In row G50 is an area of 10 parking spaces! Right at the cross walk; inside the white post. When I was little I think it was a tram stop. But we don't use the trams anymore. Any reason it can't be better used by the park? 1. reclaim them as parking spaces for Gold Members. 2. Place some picnic tables there to eat on (but that would be encouraging families not to buy in the park; but on a safety point, it's safer to eat at a picnic table than in a hot vehicle). Anyone else noticed them?
violakat03
Yeah, I think it used to be a tram stop. I kind of like still having it there because it gives you ample room to make a sharp turn into some of the first spots in row 51 instead of having to come at them from the other direction or back into them. Also notice how row 51 has one spot less than the other rows? There's one spot that's a no-parking zone to allow you to make that corner easier, but a lot of people like to invent a parking spot out of it. I get really annoyed when people do that and their car sits there for hours without getting towed.
KIfan1980
I always wondered why those prime spaces are unutilized - hadn't thought about the tram stop, but sounds like an explanation. As an aside, when did trams stop running at KI? Also, although it is outside Gold Pass (in the area between Gold Pass and the Exit lane), there are also about 20 non-spaces under a light that have a big yellow X in them that. Anyone know what this is or why there is no parking allowed there? Was this also an old tram stop?
Beast79
The big X is there so emergency helicopters can land there! Ok I made that up!
mtl2013
Yeah that used to be a tram stop. I have some memories of the trams but not many, due to my age. I think teh picnic table idea is pretty good though.
violakat03
I know the trams stopped somewhere between 2003 and 2008. I know, real helpful, right?! In between those years I only went to the park twice, once in 04 and once in 05, and I can't remember if the trams were running or not. KIBOB
Im not sure but i think that the trams stopped running in 2005 after CBS took over Paramount Parks
IndyGuy4KI
I always used the campground tram for we always spent the weekend at KI campground and went to the park via tram. They stopped the trams at the end of the 2004 season I think for that was the last season for the campground. I really miss those days. Now I only drive over for day trips. KI is missing out on a lot of money from me by getting rid of their campground!
Oldiesmann
KI is missing out on a lot of money by not having a campground. And now KI has to tease us by inviting scouts to camp out in the park next month (see http://www.visitkingsisland.com/boyscouts and the KI Camp-O-Ree event on Facebook)
Thrill_Biscuit
^ Do they get a badge for that? I remember the trams back in the 70's, when they had oval signs that said "SOHIO" on top of the cars. My brother joked that they were built in "Smichigan"...
Kawana
Isn't that area also used for motorcycle parking? I could swear sometimes I see motorcycles parked in there.

Gabe
If you want useless parking lot trivia here goes--the MK parking lot at WDW is so big it can fit the entire DL park (orig park) and STILL have room to park 500 cars! One of the things you learn when you work at Disney...
Thrill_Biscuit
I once did a Google Earth cut-and-paste and put WDW's Magic Kingdom inside KI's parking lot! (Yeah, I know all of WDW is much larger, but it still was a fun comparison!) ..btw, there was room for Paul Brown Stadium, the QE2 and BLSC...I wish I could find where I put it...
