Carowinds 2010!

Featured Replies

Looking good.

I dont like those cream supports though. I think black ones would look so much better for the first drop.

Actually, they are silver. And, they look a lot better in person, in my opinion. I was up by the factory in Batavia on Saturday and they look really good. In the pictures, I think they look kinda grey-ish, but in person, they're a nice silver.

This reminds me of the 2nd hill on Nitro. IMO the best element on any B&M Hyper that I have ridden.

^ That twisty element is a lot of fun isn't it? You actually do get airtime on the top of Nitro's second hill, which I didn't think would be likely given how quickly you change direction. The fact that you'll be adding another change of direction midway down the second drop should be fantastic, especially in the back row. The best B&M hyper moments for me, aside from the above, would be:

* the hammerhead on Behemoth in the back row

* the drop off of Nitro's MCBR in the back row

* any first drop in the back

* Goliath (SFOG) midcourse helix

* DB's second and third hills in the front

I really hope that they leave this thing untrimmed until the MCBR. There's a rumor floating that they will put one up on the way up the third hill, but we'll get confirmation of that shortly given the rate of progress.

I dont think I saw any trims in the animation but saw them in Diamondbacks and the others. But tht doesnt always mean anything.

On Carowinds Connection, someone said they had read somewhere that there will be two trims on this coaster: the third hill and on one of the bunny hops into the MCBR. Theyh said the creator of the animation just didn't include them, whcih may have been caused by him being rushed to get it done. Just a rumor, but I see there being at least one trim.

No Trim!

And on a side note: Are they setting a speed record or something? I mean really, they're gonna have the first 4 hills done before the close of the Season, Diamondback had it's first only half done! I mean really, this is unreal!

Wow. Speed record indeed.

I think the speed may have something to do with the coaster being built on the edge of the park with a large easy to get to staging area. Diamondback is in the middle of the park and required moving everything in and around existing features.

Yep. Carowinds opens earlier than Kings Island. And like was stated, this ride is on the edge of the parking lot which makes access to the ride a lot easier. Another thing that aides in the speed of construction, is the fact that the ride is being built on level land.

I can`t wait to use my 2010 Platinum pass and get down to Carowinds to ride Intimidator and see how it compares to Diamondback.

It's coming along nicely. On the left side the piece of track is connected to the support for the 3rd hill.

Not totally. There is a support for both hills, and then there is a crossbar connection the two supports. And, there is a trim on the third hill (the catwalks haven't been added yet):

I was just checking out the photo update and I saw that picture and thought it was puuuuuuurrrrrrrty! :) I was about to post it and post the link to the rest.

Whoa... this is starting to look better than Diamondback... Is that an inversion...?

It is not an inversion. You head into the hill straight, then bank extremely to the right (probably 70*-80*) As far as being better than Diamondback, I would like to combine the two because each is better than the other in certain areas. I think the two would have a nice child together...:

Diamondback: further drop, possibly faster, taller succeeding hills, more hills, two helices, splashdown

Intimidator: Taller, wicked looking second hill, better looking turnaround, diving spiral.

I'd like to have the height of of Intimidator, drop of Diamondback, second hill of Intimidator but with Dimaondback's height, Intimidator's turnaround, Dimaondback's first helix, placement of the MCBR from Intimidator, diving spiral on Intimidator, splashdown from Dimaondback.

Ah yes, one of my favorite parks is going to most definitely get a Terpy visit, or three or four, next year. Thanks for posting those!

While there's not much new to show you Coaster-Wise, the Station has been receiving some work lately.

IntimidatorStationWork.jpg

That is a puuurrty picture.

More pictures can be found on this page on Carowinds Connection. The turnaround has been completed and it looks awesome. The coaster has been completed through the bottom of the hill leading to the MCBR. They only have that incline, the MCBR, a drop, and the diving spiral left. :)

Absolutely gorgeous.

I know it's perspective but that second hill looks as tall as the lift hill.

B&M coasters are works of art as well as great coasters. Diamondback is easily the best coaster at KI to photograph. I think about seeing Montu at Busch Gardens Tampa, Nitro at SFGAdv and Behemoth and they are all amazing beautiful to look at. I'm sure that Manta would probably fit into this category as well, so it'll be fun to see that one up close and personal soon!
