screamingnight
http://rcdb.com/1093.htm?p=20128 Does anyone think that Vortex could get new trains and lapbars like these to replace the ones we have now? Even though it might never happen, is it a possibilty? I think it might be a good idea. It could make the ride more thrilling. Just add some padding on the bars to make them more comfortable on the legs. For the longest time Vekoma used Arrow trains on their Boomerang models, so couldn't Vekoma trains be good for Arrow rollercoasters?
flightoffear1996
LOL I really hope not. Smalling into them on the corkscrews would suck. The new Vekmoa trains however.
gigacoaster2k
Vortex's OTSRs are horrible. No matter where I ride, I always come off with a pounding headache.. that coaster has gotten too rough for my liking. Like I've said before, if I'm going to come off an Arrow coaster in pain, I'd MUCH rather ride Magnum XL-200.
The Interpreter
Those of us who rode Outer Limits with the OTSR's and now Flight of Fear with lapbars know the tremendous difference it made in that ride. Same for Batman and Robin: The Chiller and the Messrs Freeze. Yes, it could be done. It'd be mighty expensive, and I doubt Cedar Fair will be doing it. Nice dream, though. Fear the Four
I don't see Cedar Fair removing the OTSR's either but I sure would like it!
Thane Of Price Hill
For what it's worth, there was another thread created (earlier this week) about this same topic: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19050

dragsterfan420
Those trains on Vortex would be amazing. It would make the ride actually enjoyable to ride.
TopThrill
I don't think any thing can save Vortex, except new track.
HTCO
Which more and likely won't happen.
dragsterfan420
If the transitions were smoother, especially the one after the first drop and going into the MCBR, the ride would be a lot better. Those transitions really beat you up. I feel bad for all the kids/shorter folks that ride Vortex.
Guest rcfreak339
Ride Vortex with your head out a little and it makes a world of difference IMO, But those lap Bars would be amazing but I don't see it happening. Imagine the hang time on the Corkscrews!

CincyMan98
Honestly I really don't think Vortex is rough. Even me being short and small, the head banging thing doesn't bother me. It's a roller coaster! Not all are smooth. And lap bars would pretty much make me fall out on the corkscrews, as to how slow they go. It wouldn't be a very fun feeling for me. Height: 56" Weight: 62 lbs. You think that could survive lap bars?

KIfan73
I always feel like on Vortex's corkscrews that the OTSRs are the only thing holding me in. How would it be possible to just have lapbars?

KIfan73
It seems like seat belts are usually as just a "back-up".
Coaster Kid
In DollyWood none of the stell coaster have seat belts only ThunderHead.
Guest rcfreak339
I guess it's possible...It would be a little freaky though going through the corkscrews at such a slow pace.
Coaster Kid
Yea it would casue in DollyWood ThunderHead has a diffrent style seat then like Racer and all other woodies at Ki it felt weird getting to try a new ride with a new seat type. LordSkippy
I think lap-bars would add to the "thrill" of The Vortex. Not that Kings Island needs more thrills, having just added Diamondback. But, if Son of Beast is demolished, that would be a good counter. After all, the whole reason half of The Racer was turned backwards was because The Bat was demolished. Diamondback96
After all, the whole reason half of The Racer was turned backwards was because The Bat was demolished. I've heard that The Racer was turned backwards in 1981, so it would probably be because The Bat was closed often. But I don't know. I'm not old enough.
