September 9, 200916 yr I just figured out what the "Whyte Lightnin" meant. Whyte Lightnin was a barrel filled with some come kind of drink. That are placed around some other Cedar Point attractions, like Maverick, the train and other areas in Frontier Trail. If you read the ride description you will notice...."You'll board your boat inside the Crystal Rock Bottling Company and travel through rivers, around an illegal moonshine still and encounter some wild feudin' and fightin'. We still have no clue what they're fightin' over (it could be Whyte Lightnin'), but yer sure to be a part of it!" (Sorry if this has been posted already)
September 9, 200916 yr aka moonshine aka non-taxed liquor...see also Carowinds...and the original theme for Thunder Road.
September 9, 200916 yr Is it smart to theme a ride around alcohol? It's kinda like naming Diamondback "The tobacco attack"
September 9, 200916 yr Makes more sense than naming a kiddie coaster Beaver Land Mine Ride! (and no, it was NOT a mine train...)
September 9, 200916 yr ^Honestly, I think it is just some good ole fashioned Andy Griffith, Barney Fife humor and fun.
September 9, 200916 yr Makes more sense than naming a kiddie coaster Beaver Land Mine Ride! (and no, it was NOT a mine train...) Oh, they couldn't have had ANYTHING else in mind there...
September 9, 200916 yr Makes more sense than naming a kiddie coaster Beaver Land Mine Ride! (and no, it was NOT a mine train...) Still, my personal absolute favorite. I think WooferBear's too.
September 9, 200916 yr ...from the same creative geniuses who brought you such wonders as: Drop Tower Come and smell the funnel cakes. Kings Island, Where Else? Diamondback: Your First Ride May Be Your Last Sigh
September 10, 200916 yr Makes more sense than naming a kiddie coaster Beaver Land Mine Ride! (and no, it was NOT a mine train...) Still, my personal absolute favorite. I think WooferBear's too. Thanks for the chuckle. I can't wait for Woofer to log on and hear his retort to that
September 11, 200916 yr Hey Now! We Too Could Have Our Own Beaver Land Mine Ride! The Scooby Doo/Beastie/Fairly Odd Thinga Magig could Become ...... The Little Wooden Coaster Over There!
September 11, 200916 yr And what a stand up woody it would be, too.... Terpy, who says if the park can put that on t-shirts (and it did, for Son of Beast...)...
September 11, 200916 yr And what a stand up woody it would be, too.... Terpy, who says if the park can put that on t-shirts (and it did, for Son of Beast...)... Now for I Hear They're Thinking Of Just Changing The Name of SOB to SBNO.
September 11, 200916 yr Standing But With No Operation. Edit: Son of Beast Will Not Open Sons of B****** Will Not Operate Standing But Will Not Open
September 11, 200916 yr CedarPointer said Son of Beast is not open, so I took it one step further. Son of Beast Will Never Open.
September 11, 200916 yr ...from the same creative geniuses who brought you such wonders as: Drop Tower Come and smell the funnel cakes. Kings Island, Where Else? Diamondback: Your First Ride May Be Your Last Sigh Yes and apparently DB's splashdown is really a lagoon of doom. Who knew? So will STR board on the frontier trail or in frontier town?
September 11, 200916 yr I really hope that they make a coherent storyline, aka not what they did with Firehawk. We know what the story is (you're testing new flight technology for the government), but the detail ends there. Is it for the Air Force? Bureau of Paranormal Investigation? What exactly are we testing? etc...
September 12, 200916 yr After watching the animation video. I'm wandering if they're going to play that "hee-haw" music during the ride Also sounds like some pre-existing theming may be incorporated. Which saves a nickel or two. Hopefully the buck doesn't stop there, and they go all out on the whole theme. All in all the ride looks like a perfect addition to Cedar Point, and I'm anxious to check this out.
September 12, 200916 yr ^ Think its a plane. I always assumed that it was some sort of fuel powered, steerable hangglider, given the ride veichles. Maybe CF could explain it!
September 12, 200916 yr Not sure if this point has been made but this means that 2011 will be an even better year. I mean the last big CP coasters we got were TTD and Maverick which are both great coasters and also 4 years apart. In 2011 it will be 4 years since Maverick. Hopefully we'll get something really good for 2011.
September 14, 200916 yr ^ I am hoping for better weather during the 2009 Halloween season so that my family can enjoy the parks more than we did this past summer (if you want to call it a summer). As far as the parks' plan in 2011, that is 20 months away. Let's get through fall of '09 first.
September 14, 200916 yr ^^As has been discussed numerous times, the idea that there is a set time interval between coaster additions is virtually worthless. Of course I'm not saying that it's not going to happen, but no park says "ok, we're installing a coaster this year, so we'll have to get one within the next 4 years." Parks are planning well in advance and have a good idea where they want to be years down the road.
September 28, 200916 yr Cedar Point's Shoot The Rapids Planned For Years: ...The announcement wasn't the result of a spur-of-the-moment decision. Cedar Fair may have announced the ride only a few weeks ago, but it made the decision to build Shoot the Rapids after years of secret planning. The decision was made three or four years ago, Decker said. When the economy sank, the ride was put off a year. Cedar Point built a cheaper new attraction for 2009, the $1 million Starlight Experience light show. Cedar Point maintains a five-year plan for capital improvements, and some planning goes out 10 years. The park has plans in place for new attractions in 2011, '12 and '13, although Decker says they are "subject to review." Only a few Cedar Fair executives who serve on the company's planning commission are allowed to know about the amusement park's capital improvements plans.... http://www.sanduskyregister.com/articles/2...ont/1640006.txt
