The rate increase is "part of the normal course of doing business. We regularly evaluate and adjust our pricing," said Zoraya Suarez, manager of media relations at Walt Disney World, via e-mail. At some parks, Six Flags already does. They apparently already think they can get away with outlandish prices on poor quality food. It still amazes me that I eat cheaper at ALL the Orlando parks than at Kings Island...better yet I even actually ENJOY my food, crazy I know! LongLiveTheSmurfRide Posted October 6, 2009 Share Posted October 6, 2009 I'll be going to WDW in November on my honeymoon, but we're staying at a resort and will most just use their transportation to everything. I have heard of one way to cheat the Disney system. If you park at Downtown Disney (for free) you can hop on one of their resort buses to any resort and then get a free ride to the parks either via bus, boat or monorail. DaveStroem Posted October 6, 2009 Share Posted October 6, 2009 Consider what you are paying for your Disney trip. Then figure what it is costing you per hour. Now figure if the 1-2 hours of park time it will cost by parking at DTD is worth not paying for parking at WDW. I also feel that the benifits of staying onsite make it worth the cost differences of staying offsite. Transportation from MCO to Disney is quite expensive but is included if you stay onsite. If Cedar Fair thought it could get away with $25 parking, that is exactly what it would charge.... luff Posted October 8, 2009 Share Posted October 8, 2009 I paid $25 to part at SFGam the last two years. It's $15 for the overflow lot, so $14 at WDW doesn't seem like a stretch. BTW I paid $25 to park at millennium garage for a Bears preseason game and had to take a 15 minute bus ride to get to soldier field. LongLiveTheSmurfRide Posted October 8, 2009 Share Posted October 8, 2009 For Bengals games park in the hotel parking lot downtown (forget which one, but has the $1 parking sign even though it's only $1 for like 2 hours these days). It's a bit of a walk, but for the first game vs. Denver we only paid $3. Plus, the visiting team usually stays in the hotel, so when you leave the lobby, you may be able to get an autograph. Erosarrow05 Posted October 13, 2009 Share Posted October 13, 2009 The one time I actually did park at the Universal Orlando Garage when we did not stay on the property and chose to not use the hotel shuttle, I felt like the 12 dollars or so I coughed up was not an outrageous deal. The line moved extremely fast, and the parking attendants were efficient and polite in parking the vehicles. But moreover, the sheer quantity of moving walkways, escalators and elevators installed on this seemingly monstrous structure made it more of a 'shuttle' to the car as opposed to a long walk to and from the parks. I was able to park on the main concourse level that was shaded so if I did have to return to the vehicle during the day, to say run across the street to the hotel for whatever reason, the car wasn't an inferno (which was appreciated). I didn't need to stop by a return parking booth to get a stamp for my receipt, or have to check on any policy about reentry at a later time because there wasn't one, I just left. There are only so many things a parking lot fee can cover, its a fee afterall, but as a consumer seeing moving walkways, escalators etc, and not having to jump through hoops to re-enter the garage makes the charge a little more tolerable to me at least. I know you can only take what you read on trip reports for what it is, a biased regurgitation of what a person's day was like, but when I stumble across people having to jump through hoops to be 'readmitted' into the parking lot after leaving for whatever the case - I feel like that is quite possibly one of the most asinine ways to rake in another dollar or two and I wouldn't just limit that to just Kings Island. Certain posters like to reiterate how line jumping is the next big crime wave of 2009 hitting a local amusement park near you and Cedar Fair knowingly turns a blind eye to it because they can, so I take that with a grain of salt, but every car is greeted by a tolls associate that should be able to help rectify any reentry problems. Cedar Point's lot is actually in good shape and there are numerous associates directing traffic in and out of the lot at the beginning and end of the day, as well as in between. Kings Island? Holes galore, last paved when, and some orange cones. Sometimes there is even someone in the gold pass parking booth, and they might even look to see if the driver holds up some kind of card (any card) from some year or other...
