CedarPointer
DEMON DROP Knott’s Berry Farm will be replacing the existing “Screamin’ Swing” ride with “Demon Drop”, in the area previously occupied by “Vertigo.” Demon Drop will be 131 ft. tall and consist of a 4-person enclosure that rises on tracks to the top of a tower before descending into a horizontal slide above the midway before returning to the starting point. Demon Drop installation is scheduled to begin on January 4, 2010. http://www.buenapark.com/Modules/ShowDocum...documentid=1409 http://screamscape.com/html/knott_s_berry_farm.htm Is this a joke? Beast1979
Huh. So Cedar Point tries to sell it for years, doesn't, so instead they just move it to another one of their parks? All this says to me is that Cedar Point is setting up an expansion in that area in 2011.
Brandon
I don't see this happening. Why would Cedar Fair want to keep Demon Drop? It is very hard to maintain and get extra parts for it. And why would they move it? Perhaps for future expansion at CP, but if you're going to take it out, why rebuild it?

TTD-120-420
I am sad over this. I now know how Busch fans felt when BBW left. Hope I have another chance to ride it.
Dvo
Very very sad news to me, if this is true. And a big stress on the "if." Demon Drop is still my favorite free-fall ride. The weightlessness feeling you get on the way down is unparalleled by modern drop rides.
KI Kevin
More importantly, why would they remove Screamin' Swing?
The Interpreter
...to move it to another Cedar Fair park. And thus begins Cedar Fair's oft rumored ride rotation program...
maverick2007
Is it just me or does that "official" PDF look a little unofficial?
KI Kevin
...to move it to another Cedar Fair park. And thus begins Cedar Fair's oft rumored ride rotation program... I'm hoping said "ride rotation program" only includes flat rides, and not coasters.
maverick2007
^Paramount implemented one. For one it sent Stealth, a coaster, to Carawinds so if CFs is anything similar...

CedarPointer
I don't see why they'd remove what's a fairly new ride for a ride that a nearby park removed in quite recent history... it just seems... so bizzaro.
The Interpreter
Just as when Stealth moved to Carowinds, it was more about getting it out of the way in California than it was about moving it to the Carolinas (and the ride was relatively new when it was moved), this, if it happens, is probably more about clearing space at Cedar Point than it is about the park to which Demon Drop may be going.... Demon Drop has been for sale for quite some time. It hasn't sold, it's apparently salvagable, so, instead of just tearing it down . . . CedarPointer
Shoulda given it to KI. It's even a shorter shipping distance!
The Interpreter
So, would you be willing to give up Drop Tower for it, if you were KI management?
KI Kevin
Who said we would give up Drop Tower? KBF isn't giving up Supreme Scream.

CedarPointer
I'm still trying to figure out why it would not go to Michigan's Adventure, which is both closer and lacks a freefall ride.
StalkerChick
I'm still trying to figure out why it would not go to Michigan's Adventure, which is both closer and lacks a freefall ride. cuz that would be the smart logical thing to do.... Beast79
Why do that they could just program the crypt to swing back and forth!
bkroz
Why do that they could just program the crypt to swing back and forth! You know, you make a good point... When you think about it, our current Crypt is a slower version of a Screamin' Swing which just happens to flip twice! If we could get people to think of it that way, perhaps it'd be more enjoyable! markr
Isn't it possible that Knott's will get a different Demon Drop ride from the one at CP? Didn't Geagua Lake have a Demon Drop? It does make me sad the thought of Demon Drop leaving CP-it is one of the first rides I notice driving down the causeway that makes me really feel like i'm at the point. I agree, a classic free fall ride. I will be very sad if it leaves the point.
Browntggrr
The only thing surprising about this is that it is rumored to be moving to Knott's. I was expecting demolition. The ride has been for sale for 4 years, so CF has certainly given people opportunity to get their "last rides" in. I am also shocked about how people are "sad" about DD. We should all remember the last time CP removed an aging ride, and how sad we were then, including myself. But today, there sits Maverick, and I hardly (if ever) hear complaints of WWL's removal. So I'll put my faith into CP's decisions. I am sad over this. I now know how Busch fans felt when BBW left. Hope I have another chance to ride it. You cannot even come close to comparing the two rides. BBW is unique, and one of the best, if not the best, suspended coasters out there. At least DD is being moved as opposed to being dismantled permanently. We should also wait for the official word from the park, we may only have a few crumbs of the whole story. PhantomTheater
Markr, Mr Hyde's Nasty Fall was scraped at the end of the 2005 season. The cars and useful parts were sent to CP to keep DD working.
CedarPointer
Demon Drop is, by far, the best freefall ride I have ridden. It beats Power Tower by a mile, and probably beats Drop Tower and Pitt Fall too.
