Gotta love it when the park is offering non-passholding patrons a good deal on tickets and they get accused of trying to squeeze money out of people.

The truth is simply that it is what it is. They're in the business of bringing people into the park. Sometimes they offer special pricing or package deals to do so. In an hour or so, I will be attending Haunt with about 20 coworkers... all of whom bought tickets because they found out they could get a good deal on them. Otherwise, they may not have gone at all.

I suggest that the park just open the doors and let everyone in for free, that way they can't squeeze anyone anymore.

The lines will be unbearable, and we won't be able to enjoy it like we do now. But hey, it will be free!

Nope. No sarcasm here.

They more or less did that 4 or 5 years ago on the last day of the season. They sent all of the passholders an email inviting them to present the coupon and bring up to 10 friends for free. In the fine print it said that the pass holder did not have to be present and that there wasn't really a limit of 10. That day was pretty packed, needless to say...

That had to be 2005, the reason I can say this is I remember going to the park that day, we rode Italian Job, so it had to be at least 2005, but we made frequent trips to HB for the little one to ride the hand crank cars, which went out during the HB-> Nick redo, so it couldnt have been 2006.

That day didn't start off bad, but by about 2 or so every ride had an obnoxious line, I seem to recall we mostly just walked around the park taking it all in, since it would have taken so long to actually ride anything,

It was essentially "Free Day" at Kings Island, and well, if you went you got what you paid for.

I know that wasn't 2003, I was in Admissions then and I'd remember that one. I doubt it was 2004, since my last day in Admissions was 10/28/04 (right before closing weekend started), and I would have remembered preparing for that. I think coasterville is right in saying it was 2005.

And I just realized today is the 5 year anniversary of my last day in Admissions, aka my last day of working there every summer since 1989!

I think coasterville is right in saying it was 2005.

And you both would be correct...here is the e-mail that I dug up:

Passholder Appreciation Event

This weekend, bring all of your friends and family

to the park for free (Nov. 5 & 6)

This weekend marks the end of our 2005 season, and to celebrate the end of another great summer we'd like to invite you and your friends, and your family to join us for one last weekend of fun before we close the park to get it ready for WinterFest.

The coupon at the bottom of this e-mail allows you to bring your friends and family to the park on either Saturday, November 5 or Sunday, November 6. The park will be open on both days from 10am until 6pm. Print out as many copies as you need -- just make sure you sign each one (since they are, after all, coming as your guest).

We can't thank you enough for joining us this summer and for being a subscriber to our park newsletter. Even if you can't make it this weekend, we hope we'll see you a little later on this fall with the return of Kings Island WinterFest!
