New flags in IS?

Yes, there used to be flag poles on the right side of International Street. Additionally, there used to be a large flag pole out front (outside of the metal detectors). I know it has been tradition the last several years for the American flag to be raised when the National Anthem is sung in the morning. And yes, the flag poles in front of the fountain are new (or at least relocated).

I`d say that flag poles hardly ruin the view. Its not like they placed a large display that entirely blocked the view like they did in 2001 for Tomb Raider: The Ride. And besides, I like that they moved the American flag and state flag to such a prominent position. Don`t forget that Memorial Day is coming up soon. (That holiday used to be called Decoration Day once upon a time).

Regardless of what the weekend is called, it has typically signaled the start of the summer season. In fact, Coney Island and Sunlite Pool officially open on Memorial Day weekend, and have for years. Not to mention, that is when Snoopy`s Starlight Spectacular debuts at Kings Island.

Nevertheless, and don't take this the wrong way, I think the flags would look even better in the same place, but closer to the ground... 1.) The Eiffel Tower looks larger when your reference point is smaller. 2.) Right now, the flags cover the view of the water spouts. Water shooting above the flags would be pretty cool looking... Even better with those big bulky fountains out of sight and covered by the much more attractive flags.

"It ruins an amazing view"

Seriously?

Are you kidding me?

I don't wear my heart on my sleeve about many things. But quite frankly I am shocked and terribly offended by statements such as that.

The entire reason we can enjoy places like KI is because we have the freedom and liberties to do so. That flag represents much much more than an insignificant theme park fountain and observation tower ever could.

Many honorable men died defending that flag. And even to this very day many are still defending it on OUR behalf.

Not only do I think it's more than appropriate to be the centerpiece of International Street, I feel it is the most noteworthy thing in the park. Someone used the term "grandness." I could not think of a better way to describe it.

Shame, shame, shame on all of you that think so little of our American symbol that you'd prefer to not have it obscuring your photos of an amusement attraction.

Good Lord I fear for the future of our country!

Well put Shaggy. That is what I tried to allude to in my earlier post. It is now featured in a more prominent location. I wonder if the flag raising that they used to do outside of the gates will now be done at this new location when they play the anthem in the morning.

I few weeks ago when I was in Nickelodeon Universe, near the Eiffel Tower, waiting for the ropes to drop to officially open the park (having already secured my early rides on DBack and Beast), I witnessed a thing that reminded me how much I like that the park plays the national anthem at 10am. The group that was there was all talking, but the moment the anthem came on, everyone became silent and began to sing along. People that had ball caps on removed them. It is such a nice way to start off the day at the park, and celebrate all the freedoms that we have in this country and, as Shaggy stated, all the men and women who have died defending the flag.

My comment had nothing to do with the flag or what it represents...it was only about aesthetics.

If you look in my profile you will see that one of the things I like about the park is that they play our national anthem every morning.

Why have I never seen anyone on here complain about when a park has the U.S. flag flying on top of something as trivial as a coaster...now THAT is something I find offensive.

I still have to agree with standbyme! I NEVER meant my statement to be construed as I hated the American flag (sigh). I suggested a better spot would be on top of the International Restaurant which would give the flags a prominent view even from the parking lot. You might not agree with that certain idea. Which is absolutely fine.

It was like that last year... Most people agree this is better, since people tend not to notice things unless they're right in front of them.

What happened to the flag pole out front? (I think I remember one... Or was it before my time?)

And what, pray tell, is wrong with the American flag ending up in a picture?

Sigh.

The problem is that, with the level of the flags, they probably will not end up in the picture and you'll just get a picture with three silver poles behind you, obscuring the view of the fountains.

I like it. It makes the entry feel even more dramatic, the proud American flag waving in front of the fountains and beautiful tower. It looks very patriotic and adds a lot of grandure. Anyone who's complaining about the flag getting in the way of your view, suck it up, you can deal with our national symbol of everything country stands for in your way, can't you?

Honestly, people. It's our own Stars and Stripes.
