icedripper
http://www.sanduskyr...ont/2054709.txt lets start speculating...I'm going with either a GCI or GG coaster at demon drops site extending out to the beach.
CincyMan98
Let's start speculating.....I'm going with either Shoot The Rapids II or a high-energy water ride with a 100 foot drop. Seriously though, I hope it's a fun roller coaster that's not "trying" to break any records. I'm going next summer, so hopefully I'll be able to try the new "ride" out! (Crossing fingers it will be a roller coaster).
Dbfan
Hmmm....It has already been ordered. I guess we can let that mean it is big. I am saying a Drop Tower type right. A better more efficient Demon Drop.
HTCO
If its already been ordered. It has to be something of great size. Looking forward to see whats next for CP!

CoastersRZ
And once again, why is Kinzel commenting on things related to Cedar Point? Why not CP`s general manager, or public relations staff? The sooner Dick Kinzel is no longer at the helms of the company, the better, in my opinion. He micromanages Cedar Point too much, and the company could really use some fresh blood. They seem to be slightly out of touch with the consumers, especially given the food prices in their parks!

And I also think it may be a little preemptive on his part stirring up the pot for next year considering their new ride for 2010 hasn't even opened yet because of some stupid mistake. But it will be cool this summer if they start surveying and marking the site. Keep your eyes on the lookout for spray paint and little flags. thekidd33
I think if I were Intamin I'd be slightly angry that Kinzel is saying "wait til next year" when my new $10 million dollar ride hasn't even opened yet. I also think this will be a GCI in the demon drop location. I don't think he would hype up a non coaster so early unless there are major issues with Shoot The Rapids that haven't been made public yet. Plus the chain has installed a couple of these that have been well received and it fills a need at CP.

Pillsberry123
EVERYTHING I SAY HERE IS JUST ME SPECULATING. DON'T TAKE ANYTHING I SAY THAT SERIOUSLY I say that there will be a new wooden coaster at the Point, which is what CP has needed for a while. Considering the area, it will probably be a twister rather than an out and back. This could really spice up the area, because adding a woodie would give WT midway a classic "beach boardwalk" feel. I can foresee the entrance to the new ride located where Demon Drop was and the parking lot (to the right) for the bulk of the ride. As far as which company will (or has) been chosen for the project, I could see either GCI or Intamin chosen. Cedar Fair has taken a liking to GCI (Prowler, Renegade) but Cedar Point has a lot of Intamin coasters, so we will have to wait and see. I'm crossing my fingers for a GCI since I've never ridden one. Sorry for my poor grammar in this post, but I wrote this in a hurry.
Diamondback96
*starts praying for cryptic messages on GCI's or TGG's Facebook pages* Pun intended? I think it's going to be a woodie, and it will be GG, GCI, or Intamin. Or it could be a Mean Streak overhaul. I hope not, though; it's way too early to announce something like that. It's way too early to announce an overhaul. Plus, Mean Streak has had some retracking done this offseason. EDIT: If I'm correct, it gets retracked almost every offseason. TH13TEEN
^ Is that coaster really that hard on itself?
CincyMan98
I'm actually not going to get my hopes up at all. Honestly, I don't know what other coaster they could add, because they have so many different varieties. I think a wooden coaster like Prowler would be necessary at Cedar Point. That's one thing the park doesn't have. Now, as for a flat ride, I don't know either. They have a lot of varieties of those too. A Drop Tower would be nice, since Demon Drop has just been taken away. Maybe a new ride that is introduced? Maybe a new decade of thrills? But, the last thing I want is a water-related ride. ANYTHING that has to do with water (except for a splashdown) is a thumbs down for me. I'm just hoping it'll be a good ride, no matter what it is (BUT NO WATER!). Three new coasters in one year and all the work there doing with Gravity Kraft right now is a little too much for a four man group. I think. Go Browns
I think if I were Intamin I'd be slightly angry that Kinzel is saying "wait til next year" when my new $10 million dollar ride hasn't even opened yet. Why would Intamin care? Shoot the Rapids is likely paid for in full so I don't think they care how CP markets it. Also don't forget that there is at least a decent chance that the ride Kinzel is refering to is an Intamin. Also as far as being ordered in advance I don't think its out of the ordinary to order any roller coaster this far in advance regardless of size. edit: thanks for posting the article, very intriguing. DropZone99
I've been thinking (and heard from friends, but that doesn't mean anything) it's going to be a GCII woodie that's station and queue line is where Demon Drop was. The lift hill will head towards the lake. It's drop will be similar to Renegade's, after that will be a small hill that twists a little bit. Than a dead-mans-turn near the beach, the rest of the ride will take place in a small section of the parking lot.
Go Browns
I found this bit to be first very exciting then a little disappointing. “Let me just put it this way. We went after the family market this year ... We’re going to go after the thrill seeker next year.” Kinzel wouldn’t give more details. “There’s more thrill rides than roller coasters,” he said. “I can’t tell you what it is. It’s a very exciting ride.” It doesn't mean that CP is definitely not getting a new coaster but it certainly implies it.

Last that I had heard STR had not yet been paid for in full (though that was at least a month ago). However I was thinking more along the lines of Kinzel's comments taking away from the hype surrounding STR's opening. Of course Intamin cares how their rides are marketed and received by the public. What company wouldn't? The comments just seemed, IMO, to say "well this year's new ride (that isn't even open yet!) might suck but wait until next year!" Dbfan
Would there really been room for a GCI where Demon Drop is? My one trip to CP i unfortunatly never rode DD, so I have no clue what the room is like down there.
Beast1979
The coaster used is Renegade from Valleyfair. So yes, one could easily fit back in that area.
CincyMan98
Wait so is that taking up part of the main parking lot? Or another extra area? And another thing- there are no trees. That wouldn't be a very fun ride without any trees. WE NEED MOR TREEZ!

That wouldn't be a very fun ride without any trees. WE NEED MOR TREEZ! Theres not going to be very many, if not any trees at all besides the queue area. They would probably just plant grass like how they did with Dominator at Kings Dominion.
Pillsberry123
Off topic, but trees are something that Cedar Point is missing. A lot were taken out to do Shoot the Rapids, leaving a lot of Millennium Island bare. Anymore, the only trees left are the ones left around Frontier Trail (after STR) and the ones in the center of the park, around Iron Dragon. IMO, there needs to be an offseason where a ton of trees are brought in and planted along the midways, especially around the front of the park. Wait so is that taking up part of the main parking lot? Or another extra area? If I'm correct, that section is the employee parking lot. I might be wrong, so don't hold me to that.
PhantomTheater
^It's generally the employ lot, but anyone can park there. Except on July 4th when no one can park there, as it's the fireworks safety area.
KI Kevin
No, I highly doubt it'd be a GG. Also, in the other article I believe Kinzel mentioned that CP would continue to be the park with the most coasters, and SFMM will have it tied very soon, so I'm guessing it'll be a coaster. Dbfan
In the recent thread "changes to CP 2010" someone said there is a new parking lot going up near the marina. If so, it is very likely they will use some of the parking lot for a new roller coaster.
CincyMan98
I think it would be OK just for some of the parking lot to be taken over by a coaster. Maybe only 3 rows of spaces, if they can do that.
Pillsberry123
If the new parking lot near the marina is true, then we could certainly expect something bigger than just a flat. Let's just hope that it isn't going to be a ride that gets thrown up over the parking lot. http://img.groundspeak.com/waymarking/display/a50c3f64-0416-4869-b31b-6f963baf2eb9.JPG
