PREMiERdrum
Cedar Point's new thrill ride for 2011 will be announced in mid-August -- a relatively early announcement compared to previous ride announcements. LINK - Sandusky Register Mid-August is fairly early compared to the last few announcements, but I can imagine that it may have been pushed up to offset negative press in regards to Shoot the Rapids. Cedar Fair's chairman and CEO, Dick Kinzel, dropped a hint about what's coming. "It's going to bring back a lot of memories for people that follow Cedar Point," he said. A return of the Cyclone perhaps? With the markers stretching the length of the Oceana Midway, including on the beach, perhaps the Cyclone and boardwalk project has been brought back to life. LINK - CedarPoint.com History 1929: The classic Cedar Point Cyclone roller coaster opens along the beach. It is billed as “Scientifically Built for Speed, Thrills and Safety.” LINK - RCDB
The Interpreter
This may be an attempt to divert attention away from more than just Shoot the Rapids...a recent executive departure may well result in some sort of legal action in about that same time frame...or that employee may wait a little longer before proceeding...the Statutes of Limitation give him that luxury...as do certain other Statutes of Limitation for other things... Then there's the whole matter of debt and refinancing and covenants and sons and such...

vortexfan
Why does Kinzel himself always comment to the media on what's happening at Cedar Point? Sometimes you'd think the park doesn't have its own GM or PR...
IBEW_Sparky
This may be a stretch, or wishful thinking on my part, but could it possibly be that they have decided to relocate Big Dipper from GL to CP? I have been saying since winter "Wouldnt it be nice to see CF relocate Dipper to the area where Demon Drop was located, and possibly save a little face and get some positive PR?" PREMiERdrum
Why does Kinzel himself always comment to the media on what's happening at Cedar Point? Sometimes you'd think the park doesn't have its own GM or PR... Because Kinzel has never been able to separate Cedar Point from Cedar Fair. The Point has become his personal sandbox, and the fact that he still speaks on the park's behalf is ludicrous.
The Interpreter
Cedar Point is Mr. Kinzel's 'baby.' Should he ever leave the company, that will be very hard for him. He even lives in the parking lot. Honest. He also sees himself, as he recently told us, as an 'operations guy, not a finance guy.'
Beast1979
Am I the only one who's looking past the Kinzel crap and looking forward to the new ride? Granted, the fact that the CEO of 11 parks is treating 1 better isn't right, buut come on, Cedar Point is getting a new thrill ride!

Granted, the fact that the CEO of 11 parks is treating 1 better isn't right, buut come on, Cedar Point is getting a new thrill ride! Oh, I'm excited about it. Especially if it's a classically-styled woody running along the beach, and double especially if it transforms the area into a proper Victorian boardwalk. Renegade, Prowler, and the cancelled GCI at CGA offer some support to that theory.

HTCO
If it is indeed a GCI, I will most defiantly be taking a trip up there next summer for sure. Since I can drive and what not next year

I'm not sure how that relates to a GCI? The only wooden coasters added to CF parks in recent years? GCI Kinzel throws out a "nostalgia" teaser... survey markings all over the Oceana Midway (very close to the home of the original CP Cyclone). The dots are all there... Guest Millennium
^^I would love a CP boardwalk with the Cyclone added, which could be built by GCI. That would be awesome..
Mantis1996
My guess is Gravity Group, possibly GCI. I guessed this back in 2009 when DD was for sale just did not want to say anything while employeed just incase I was right, LOL

Beast1979
Screamscape and Lance beg to differ with most of the speculation here: 2011 - Thrill Ride - Semi-Confirmed - (7/7/10) - The latest rumors about Cedar Point's next big project claim it will be a coaster from Intamin once again... despite all the various technical problems The Point has had with rides from them. According to another source, this Intamin Creation may be a new prototype creation we haven't seen anywhere else before. Stay tuned! Methinks he hasn't seen the "Nostalgia" bit yet. The Interpreter
That woodn't be too surprising...or it could. Should this steel turn out to be something else, watch Lance edit what will then be the past to make it appear he was more correct than he was. It's happened before, and more than once. Ah, the joys of seeing history being written again and again at Screamscape! Oh, wait, he hedges his bets (as usual): ... Cedar Fair - (7/7/10) Screamscape sources tell us that we may see more new wood coasters built at a Cedar Fair parks in the next few years. So far the results have been good and with the rising cost of steel in the world marketplace, they are looking more attractive than ever.... http://www.screamsca...s.htm#CedarFair I wonder if you can see the point there. Granted, the fact that the CEO of 11 parks is treating 1 better isn't right, buut come on, Cedar Point is getting a new thrill ride! How many of the parks including Canada's Wonderland have gotten a new coaster in the last 5 years? Kings Island had not gotten a new coaster since Stunt Track. (Firehawk don't count as new). And Cedar Fair has 14 parks if you include the 2 water parks not next to Knotts in California.
The Interpreter
The "Kinzel crap" (as Jackson put it) will have a far bigger impact on the future of Kings Island than any new thrill ride at Cedar Point will. Perspective. One of the most important things in life.
