Offseason Parking

Security is there year round and does checks of the grounds constantly. In most locations is a barcode/magnetic strip that has to be scaned by the guard. This way they can track when the guards came and make sure they went to each place verifying the security and have a record.

Though parking in the drop off area and leaving your car for a long time might result in a missing car upon return. They will tow it if there an extended period of time.

Why would anyone want to park in the drop-off area? For those that are not exactly familiar with the area, there is a park and ride lot, just to the south of the main PKi parking lot that is open 24/7/365. And, they will not tow your car while it is in there.

There is always that winter construction tour that Jeff Siebert mentioned on the first construction tour on the last day of the season. However, he said that there might be a tour after the holidays, so there could be one, or there might not be one. I hope that there is one, but if not oh well. We`ll all see BB finished soon enough, when there is water on the rides and we can actually experience them.

There is a Metro Park and Ride stop at the south end of the Deep South Parking lot. When you come off of 71 north, and are on Kings Island Drive, the entrance to the park and ride is the first set of traffic lights after you pass Western Row Road (the first intersection after exiting the highway.

What happens to the park and ride on days when the park and parking lot is filled to capacity? Do they just park people in the huge expanse of grass to the south? I do realize that most people who use the park and ride will have already parked and departed by the time the parking lot nears capacity. However, it seems odd that some of PKI`s spaces are used for this free (other than the bus fare) service.

I have seen the parking lot overflow. It was one day in 1997 and my family only went to purchase and process our season passes. They had parked cars in the grass to the south of the deep south parking lot. Needless to say, we processed our passes, rode Phantom Theater after a half hour wait and left.

Remember, that is still Kings Island property. So most likely if it is left there more than one day or so, it could be towed. I don't know specifics but its still a possibility.

If you leave a vehicle in a park and ride lot, the normal rules apply and they cannot tow it or remove it for at least 30 days. For all they know your vehicle may have broken down, and they are not allowed to move it.

I never thought I'd use stuff I learned from the parking lot here.

But anyways:

I was there in the really big gold pass BAFFD in 2002. I believe the park set an all time attendance record that day, around 65,000.

It actually got to the point where we closed the entrance gates in the afternoon and locked anyone from coming in.

When the concrete lot filled up, cars were parked on the grass (of couse, with toll collectors placed at the entrance to the Park and Ride for that day), as well as on the baseball/softball field next to the employee entrance. I don't think they openly let people park in the employee lot, but many people probably saw the path next to the cars and took it. I don't remember being parked as far out as I was that day, I think I was in the last row of the employee lot. 71 was backed up for at least a mile - and this was at 3:00 PM, when I got there. I was told that it was backed up for over an hour in the morning.

Not true. If a vehicle is left there for more than a day or two, it gets towed. PKI has mechanics that come out to broken down cars to help out or call for help if you ask someone or go to the security gate. If a car is left there more than a day, it was almost always towed.

They days that the parking lot are most likely to fill up to beyond capacity is Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Friday its usually not until afternoon, so the park and ride people have mostly already left or are leaving as its filling up. Saturdays, not too many people use the park and ride. Same goes with sunday.

Cars can be towed after a day or two of being on property without anyone letting the park know that it is broken down. Cars are towed at the owners expense. The signs are posted in the passenger drop off area that state the rules. Security does keep track of vehicals left in the lot (passenger drop off and the park and ride). If you do need help with you vehical and you happen to be at the drop off area, you can always use one of the blue emergancy phones to contact security. They will help you out as much as they can, even calling in a tow truck, locksmith, or by contacting someone from maintenice if they are on property at the time.

Security is in the park 24/7 365 and we do patrol the entire grounds.
