I have no idea how much of this (if any) is true, but I did some research on it earlier in the year.

According to YouTube user Wurlitzer157, an organ expert who has posted a few short videos of the band organ from 2005, at one time there was a dedicated park employee whose sole job was to maintain/repair the organ as needed. At some point, it was decided to contract this out to Stinson, and the organ was repaired yearly (or possibly even monthly). In 2006, with the park up for sale, Paramount decided not to spend the money to have the organ repaired. Supposedly the "guts" of the organ are stored in Flight of Fear's bowl and it would cost around $3,000 just to repair it (but even more to fully restore it).

I did ask about this back in May when the park was doing the 5@5 thing on Facebook, but the people handling that didn't get a chance to research it before the feature was abruptly ended.

Regardless of what the actual status of the organ is, it is indeed cheaper to just play a CD than to restore the organ and keep it maintained.

However, I don't think the cause is hopeless. During my research on the issue (yes, I had a bit too much time on my hands...), I found out about the National Carousel Association, which actually offers grants to help cover the cost of preserving and restoring carousels.

So, basically we need to do two things:

1. Convince the park and/or CF to apply for a grant (I'm sure the project would qualify, especially given the carousel's historical significance)

2. Convince CF to spend the money necessary to continue maintaining the carousel.

The second part would be the most difficult. We all know that Kinzel is a cheapskate, and of course CF does have quite a bit of debt to pay off, but it's at least something to think about.

Perhaps were one of the two proposals whose record date is day after tomorrow actually enacted, an organ would play in Mason, Ohio not all that far from the Losantiville Station of the K.I. & M. V. R.R., but certain other things would also have to happen for that to occur...Note I said enacted, not just passed....in general, limited partnerships are run differently than corporations, but do certain parties realize that fully? An interesting Q that...

Terp, who notes in passing that the sonorous sounds of a new CEO may very well bring many things....or not.

I'm Wurlitzer 157 from youtube.

The organ is in bad shape.

I sent out plenty of emails to Kings Island about this

The organ's specs:

Bass - 6 wood trombones; 6 stopped diapason pipes; 6 stopped octave daipason pipes. Accompaniments - 10 stopped flute pipes; 10 open flute pipes; 10 open piccolo pipes; 10 open piccolo pipes. Melody - 44 violin pipes; 22 octave pipes; 22 piccolo pipes; 22 open flute pipes; 22 stopped flute pipes; 16 bar bells. Trumpets - 14 wood trumpets; 14 wood clarinets. Traps - bass drum; snare drum; cymbal; triangle; double castanets; tympani. Automatic stops - 1 for bells; 1 for swell and wood trombones. Draw stops - 1 for wood trombones; 1 for wood trumpets; 1 for violins; 1 for flutes; 1 for piccolos. The Wurlitzer 157 stands nearly 8½ feet tall, over 12 feet wide and nearly 4 feet deep.

There's an organ just like this at Knott's Berry Farm which hasn't played for nearly 25 years

Both organs have the same specs except the one at Knotts is in much worse condition.

And it may not be not operational now...

Terp, carefully stating...things...you might want to ask Mr. Kinzel about that organ...then again, perhaps it resigned....

Infact Mr.Kinzel is the one who made the decision to remove the organs...

You might want to interpret things more closely...more than that I will not say, I have said more than enough already...

Note the last sentence before the pictures: "These pictures were taken in a shop on Madison Rd"

A quick Google search turns up the following business:

This is in the O'Bryonville area (between East Walnut Hills and Hyde Park).

Are you saying what I think you're saying right now, Terp?!

Falfas resigned (or whatever Q wants to call it) and took the organ with him?!
