The Interpreter
where East of Chicago was: http://www.morningjo...59332944925.txt So, if I leave the park to escape Cedar Fair's in park confiscatory pricing, I know to NOT go to that DQ. Thanks for the information (there are far better out of park dining choices...like local perch!)
pkiboy
This was announced at the GOCC party in December along with other new things for the 2011 season.
The Interpreter
And now they have applied for the necessary permits. Oh well, I suppose I really should be studying dining options in, say, Atlanta. Or not.
Dvo
Amen. It'll be nice to have a quick food option, other than that dumpster on the causeway known as McDonald's.
pkiboy
Funny when I was at Canada's Wonderland last year it was wired seeing a Dairy Queen inside the park. Dairy Queen in Planet Snoopy eh.
thekidd33
^Wired? Well at least they had power then! Seriously though I think this is a good addition to CP's lineup...though my mind may change when I see the prices. Edit: Haha serves me right Terpy! Terp...who can think of many wonderful fishy places to eat on the shores of Lake Erie!
PREMiERdrum
DQ also has (or had, a few years ago) reasonable price caps on their products. With it being a "Grill & Chill" location, that means the food product will also be sourced from Dairy Queen (Grill & Chill is the new Braizer system, essentially) so the quality should be there. Oddly enough, with the DQ system, stores that aren't signed as "Braizer" or "Grill & Chill" are free to order their hot food product from whichever supplier they wished, and only have to order their ice cream selections from DQ. flightoffear1996
the east of chicago place went out of business? I loved going to the place much cheaper than order pizza to the hotel room.+
The Interpreter
It is, indeed, gone. There is far better pizza in Sandusky. I HIGHLY recommend Chet & Matt's. Some of the best pizza I have had ANYwhere. http://www.chetmattspizza.com/
PhantomTheater
^Terpy I agree about Chet and Matts, definitely the best pizza in Erie County. If out of park Ice Cream you desire, may I suggest the Pied Piper in Huron. There was a DQ in Huron, but it is no longer on the DQ website but the causeway location is, how interesting. Dalefan
The Johnny Rockets inside of Cedar Point maybe has a 2.00 more difference then one outside of the park. Famous Daves is owned by Cedar Point. They have normal steak house prices like you would see at Longhorn or Outback.
The Interpreter
Both are relatively upscale offerings whose pricing is almost breath-taking already to many Cedar Point clients, regardless of the eateries' locations. And the quality of either does not measure up at Cedar Point compared to other locations, in my experience. And given my recent experiences at several Famous Dave's, I will stick to the frozen custard (and probably ONLY the frozen custard) if and when I am on the Cedar Point peninsula... Terp, thinking of joining the varsity team, IF he is asked...put me in Coach!
jzarley
^ I've actually had pretty good experiences at Famous Daves...unfortunately, I can't say the same about the TGI Fridays @ Hotel Breakers A general F&B question about Cedar Frair...does Cedar Point still buy the in-park national franchises then run them as part of their normal F&B operations? Have they taken this same approach at KI (and the other Par Parks), or do they lease the in-park space to vendors who have bought the franchises? There would be pros & cons to each approach... The Interpreter
...Innes declined to say if the new eatery will be ready for the park's May 14 opening. He said he wants to preserve some of the sweet, cold details for a formal announcement next month. It will be the first complete Dairy Queen serving any Cedar Fair park, although Canada's Wonderland in Toronto does have a few Dairy Queen stands that offer only ice cream.... http://www.sanduskyr...ueen012811tjxml The article implies that the old East of Chicago was owned and operated by Cedar Fair. The Interpreter
That article is generating some very...uh...interesting comments. http://www.sanduskyregister.com/news/2011/jan/29/dairyqueen012811tjxml Wonder how long before Ms. Frole calls and they disappear? IndyGuy4KI
I think it would be great to see a few more chain restaurants at CF parks!
The Interpreter
a. this is outside the park. b. It would be even better if the prices were somewhat near what is charged outside the park. Six dollars for a cold Subway six inch sub is ridiculous, and they usually have far less on them than outside the park...

The Interpreter
VERY short season for this here new Dairy Queen: ...When completed, the renovation project will cost approximately $1.5 million. A May opening is planned, however, an exact opening day has not been determined. After opening, the restaurant will be open daily through Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 3-5. It will also reopen for weekends through Oct. 29-30.... http://www.prnewswir...-115184634.html So, no business for a DQ Grill & Chill in winter or on fall weekdays in Sandusky? PREMiERdrum
VERY short season for this here new Dairy Queen: So, no business for a DQ Grill & Chill in winter or on fall weekdays in Sandusky? I'd guess that the out-of-the-way location (unless you're heading to CP) has to do with this. Also, there were 2 example images sent along with this release (in my email, at least)
Pillsberry123
I've only eaten at the East of Chicago once, and that was after it seemed impossible to get service at the TGI Friday's at the Hotel Breakers. Didn't really care for the East of Chicago that much. Like you, Terpy, I'd rather go to some of the local dives and eat some Perch. And even after get off of Cleveland Road, the food options are pretty much endless.
flightoffear1996
The TGI Fridays at Hotel Breakers took forever to get our food. I think they have too many seats and not a big enough kitchen. Johnny Rockets had flys all over the place and the food was cold when we got it. My frenchfries still had ice in the middle. I had actually good experince at the non-chained park food.
