Browntggrr
But don't misquote the actual quote which is as misleading as the writer's mistake.

Browntggrr
he didn't misquote, he wrote (or copy/pasted) word for word. i think i'm confused on what your saying browntggr. He did not misquote the article, but in using quotation marks in the post gives the appearance that Rick Schmizze made the quote vs. what the writer actually wrote. Two quotes from the article: - "was shut down for good in 2009". This may end up being true. - "Cedar Fair had known of problems with the ride since 2000". I guess this is a generic enough statement that it is hard to dispute, but seems a little misleading.

Since he was getting a direct quote (what is in quotation marks) from a source (the article), it was required he use quotation marks, even if those words weren't a quote in the article... KIfan1980
Sorry for the confusion - as stated I was merely pointing out the liberties taken in the article. My use of quotes was preceded by the following statement Two quotes from the article: which was intended to explain what was in the quotes. If there is a better way to do this, I open to suggestions for the future.

I've seen very few photos of the sob during construction after that storm blew threw and destroyed part of the ride. Very neat!

son of beast214
april 1st is the day the park map is coming out "probably" find out SOB fate then. could you imagine 3hrs+ of waiting??? that is what you call a line! DB didn't get that much 2.5hrs for DB.
Browntggrr
I believe it is safe to assume if you plan on waiting for SoB in 2011, it will be much longer than 3 hours....

KIfan1980
Ok, I've got to ask - do you really believe that when the park map is released, it could be on there and will just open with the park as if it hadn't been SBNO for the last season and a half? Has anything changed to improve the ride performance (which was stated by the park GM as necessary to reopen)? Has off season maintenance been done on the trains? Has KI hired ride ops for SoB for this season? I can't say for sure, but I think the odds are that the answer to all these is not. What is giving you any glimmer of hope? bkroz
well look at when they said we were getting WS 2 days before the announcement! Huh? You lost me..... Ha! And yeah, let's be realistic. Son of Beast re-opening as is would be nothing short of a disaster. Mr. Scheid already commented that he was personally displeased with the experience it offered. That being said, why in the world would it re-open until that changes? And let's add up the money lost in court just this past year from the ride... Would it ever re-open while it holds even a slight resemblance to the ride that cost so much? Logically, the only way that could change is with a major, major refurbishment - one that would have been visible from outside the park... (Comment all you want on how track work could've been done on parts not visible from outside the park - the fact is, every part of the ride would need re-configured to even be passable in operations). And besides that, we're talking about a company that is only now approaching a slight, slight rebound from the brink of financial disaster. Their expenditure this year appears to be quite down from the past (although perhaps the sum of all the WindSeekers and capital improvements does about match prior year's large additions), and there's a reason for that. I don't think even a simple re-tracking of a small, select area could be completed in the time left before the park opens - and even if it could, it wouldn't solve enough problems to make the ride operable. If it has a future, I reckon we might see initial inspections occurs throughout the summer. Then, be it construction or demolition, I wouldn't expect a smidgen of work until the end of summer at the earliest --- and that's all if any decisions are in the works whatsoever. If you are still holding your breath for Son of Beast to open in 2011, you're about to faint for more reasons than one.
The Interpreter
but you can't be so quick to conclusions. things change so rapidly anymore. And yet you jumped to the conclusion that Browntggrr meant the ride would not be open. He easily could have meant that if the ride were open, the lines would always be longer than 3 hours. So can we now conclude that even you do not assume the ride will be open? Interesting.
windshawne
Scrap it, plain and simple. Sometimes it just doesn't work out, and its time to let it go. Seriously, how much was the true cost of the ride-downtime, lawsuits, fixes. It's a beautiful structure, and a bad coaster. Demolition would start tomorrow if I owned the park. Besides that, they'll come out of the woodwork at this point due to its reputation. Like Goodyellowcorn said, how many folks out there were injured, and just didn't pursue legal action? I bet more than we think.
Snowman
Maybe they'll open SOB as a historical or educational walkthrough attraction, with a 5 dollar upcharge!
Dieseltech20
I wouldn't expect a smidgen of work until the end of summer at the earliest --- and that's all if any decisions are in the works whatsoever. Exactly. I still remember Mr Helbig telling us (coasting for kids event) last July to "Not expect to hear anything about SOB til the end of NEXT season". Even that statement had a "don't hold your breath" feel to it, so I don't expect anything even then.
Hendrick
Not sure if anyone saw this on Twitter, but, someone tweeted: @KingsIslandPR When will a decision on the Son of Beast's future be made? Kings Island's response: @kevinathurman Don't know. When there is new information we'll let everyone know. I know, it doesn't mean much. son of beast214
i think if they are taking over 1 year to simply say their tearing it down then that is a very slow pace/ stupid to take so long! i think they have plans to reopen but when? Timbo1
Hey guys I am sure this isn't the place to ask this question but I was hoping someone could tell me. Where did the loop for SOB get taken? Is it one of the items laying in the field out in the woods at KI? Just wondering. Thanks

Browntggrr
i think if they are taking over 1 year to simply say their tearing it down then that is a very slow pace/ stupid to take so long! Why would there be a rush to dismantle it (aside from it being "stupid")? SBNO does not harm a thing & SBNO for a period of time is not that uncommon- Drachen Fire last operated July '98 and removal started fall 2001 & Bat pretty much was SBNO in 1983 & complete removal was done by opening day 1985 (according to sources). I'm sure there are more examples out there....
