NatiReds084 Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Is anyone aware of any offered internships with KI? I will be graduating at wright state with an organizational leadership degree next November and was looking into possibly being an intern this summer... Quote
CedarPointer Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I don't think they do a program like CP. You can try calling though. Quote
kjkjkj Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Just check out their jobs page http://www.visitkingsisland.com/public/jobs/summer_jobs/index.cfm Some of the categories have internships on them. Like on the marketing category, the last job under Marketing is an internship. Quote
TombRaiderFTW Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 While we're on the topic... Does anyone know if KI's or CP's engineering departments (or just about any park, really) do any internships or summer jobs? (And I better not get Terpedoed! You know who you are! ) EDIT: To be clear, I mean outside of their jobs pages. I've already checked there. Quote
CoastersRZ Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Yes! (I`m not Terpy though). To be honest, the best way to find out would be to contact the park. It might be too late for this summer season though, as most seasonal parks have already started filling their summer positions. And you know how the old saying goes. "The early bird catches the worm." 1 Quote
The Interpreter Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 But then again, who'd want to catch a worm? Oh, yeah, the early bird.... Terp, who once went down to Georgia...and not for a dive... Quote
TombRaiderFTW Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 ^^ Dang, I got Terpedoed anyway! And okay! Thanks for the advice. I was already leaning towards starting applying in 2012--I'm definitely not far enough into the major right now to be of much use, methinks. Again, thanks! Quote
Colonel_SoB_fan Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 I'd recommend the Disney College Program or a Disney Professional Internship. Both are very valuable experiences and look fantastic on an resume. College Program http://disney.go.com...collegeprogram/ Professional Internship http://disney.go.com...rld_resort.html Quote

They do have marketing internships, thats about it..Even with a degree in organizational leadership, it might be worth a shot to apply. Quote
Gordon Bombay Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 If someone pays my rent for a month, you can be my intern. You'll learn a lot about go karts, RC Cola, photography and get to go on cool adventures. No guarantee if I can get you college credit, but the experiences and lessons you learn will be worth the cost. Quote
The Interpreter Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 And here I was going to retire in September...that might have been a deal well worth taking. I'd bet I'd learn a lot! Quote
Coaster Kid Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I wonder if I would be able to get a internship at Greavity Group. Hm I think that be a great thing! Quote

I've looked into it pretty extensively and the bottom line is that Cedar Fair contracts out essentially all Design and Engineering. Six Flags on the other hand does have a central engineering group so that they can do some in house designing but it is still limited. I believe the one group services the entire organization so there's still a lot of contracting out. Disney on the other hand is completely in house. We have an enormous group for all design, engineering, architecture, facility management, project management, and more. It's possible that we'll contract the fabrication, but not the design. 1 Quote
TombRaiderFTW Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 ^ Wow--that's exactly the sort of info I was looking for! Thank you! The only thing "Cedar Fair engineering [or design] department" will find you on Google is interviews with Ed Dangler at Cedar Point... Interesting reads? Sure. But not exactly what I was looking for. Funny, I remember when Ed Dangler was head of maintenance at KI. 1 Quote
DeLorean Rider Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 But yea essentially any major change that any Cedar Point wants to do is going to be contracted to one of the many vendors that shows up at IAAPA every years. I'm sure many of those companies however do have internship capabilities. A friend of mine in DAAP for Industrial Design did several Co-Op's with Jack Rouse who has done tons of work for Cedar Fair, Six Flags, and more. 1 Quote
