coasterdime
This question is mainly pointed toward the employees... Will PKI's woodies (Racer and Beast) be fitted with new belts for this season? As other Paramount parks wake up for the season, guests are finding new belts waiting for them. So, did PKI install 'em?
coasterdime
Yeah That's what I figured. Thanks for the quick response.

coasterdime
Question? Where did you hear about the other Paramount Parks getting seat belts on the their woodies? Thanks I have friends who spent the weekend at Carowinds. They now have 'em...I also have a friend who works at Paramount Canada's Wonderland. He let me know that they now have belts up there, too. DegenRider
I believe this is ALL PTC trains. SOB may remain the same
TowerGuy
SOB will not be affected. Only Beast and Racer are getting seat belts.
teenageninja
That's terrible to hear. Hope capacity isn't affected.
coasterdime
SoBrider is right. I was only referring to the PTC's. (Beast, Racer) As far as a capacity difference, it will slow lines down temporarily, but I think when the ops (and the guests) get used to them, things will go quicker. There are MANY parks that have used them for a while. I read on another site that all PTC trains built after 1980 were equipped with belts, but some parks just removed them. I have another, somewhat related question to anyone on this year's Beast crew. Have the restaints been changed on the Eagles? Some of the employees were telling me that the park was considering new belts there, too. From what they were told, the belts would have to be locked/unlocked by the ride op for each cycle. That's all the stupid questions I have for now, I'll find out for sure next Saturday.....
WildCat
Why are they adding the Seatbelts after all this time? I know that The Beastie had seatbelts. I don't think it will slow the line down look at Cedar Point and other parks with the same type of trains.
DegenRider
PTC issued a reccomendation to add the belts.
TowerGuy
Hope capacity isn't affected. They say that it shouldn't. The ones up at Beastie get twisted all the time. This means that it takes a while to get Beastie trains cycled. However, at Beast and Racer, the seatbelts are being installed diffrently and shouldn't hinder capacity. Return_of_Yogi
awww man.........i hope this doesnt affect air-time.......it's the one thing us fat kids have left to look forward too!
Columbus coasternut
The only problem with adding seat belts to theese rides is that it would void all ACE awards that the ride has won Ace revoked it from The Beastie when they added belts http://www.aceonline.org/classics/
Scooby_Doo
MAN! Lapbars are ok BUT SEATBELTS!that totally SUCKS! iam 5'4 muscler build and i gotta say Seatblets can hurt...i like Lap Bars but i dont like the Seatbelts that sucks!
stephenmayes
Lets not forget tho' that none of these rides would be nearly as fun if they arent as safe as they can be. The people who send out these reconmmendations are experts who know what they are talking about...So obviously the seatbelts are thought to be needed. Just a thought... Kwp106
I know Kennywood bought PTC trains for The Racer after 1980...so does that mean the Kennywood's RACER rollercoaster could have seatbelts as well? I think to add seatbelts on any wooden coaster just takes all the fun out of the ride! Though you have people that come to the parks and leave there brains at home, and they ruin the fun of the rides! I guess it's better to be safe though.. Scooby_Doo
I would love to goto Kennywood dont they have that Garfield Dark ride opening up soon? As for seatbelts i hope they dont make me lose my AIRTIME!
TheRickster
ACE will probly be changing the rule. Or at least they should. Almost all PTC trains are going to be having these. Not to mention as times change eventually we are going to be tearing down coasters that were trully great things and were installed with belts from the beginiing. TheRickster
I havnt heard anything and there is noway unless it locks on the actual belt itself and a ride op had to walk up to it for a ride op to be able to control a belt on the eagles. I havnt heard anything about changing the eagles.

I havnt heard anything about changing the eagles. Yep, that's what they were saying....a lock on each tub, with the ride op opening the lock after each cycle. That said....if you know nothing about it, it must have been just a rumor. (after all, it's your crew's ride) Thanks for the answer, and like MommaBeast said, "Banish the thought!" pkidude03
There was a discussion about Thunder Road on the Carowinds Connection forums that Thunder Road did have seatbelts installed. They said it killed the airtime & the ride was no longer as fun as it use to be. If this is the case for The Racer (& other PTC trains) then I hope it doesn't ruin it's airtime because that was the whole reason The Racer is one of my faveorite coasters. As for The Beast it doesn't really matter to me since it doesn't have much airtime anyway.
TheRickster
The seatbelts are retractable and from what i can tell extend all the way to the 1st click on the bar. I dont think they will hurt airtime hardly at all. I almost wander if it isnt more for a liability reason to have them. The person physically has to undo their belt to be able to stand up etc.
