silver2005
Ok, I need some help in planning for a park trip. I'm trying to fit in a Holiday World trip this summer, but one thing has me pondering a lot, and that is whether to make it a 1 day or 2 day trip. I am interested in hitting the water park, but I need to know if I can hit that and do a lot on the dry park as well. I'd also like to know other things to check out there besides the three woodies. What other attractions are worth doing and can I fit that, the water park and the 3 woodies in 1 visit? The decision from 1 and 2 days also affects my travel plans, for if I go 2 days, I will plan to stay near Santa Claus for a night and come back to Cincy after day 2. I could really use help in figuring this out, for I'm finding myself busy this summer and I need to see when I can go if 2 days is what I ultimately decide to do. Any help would be appreciated. Dieseltech20
The day I went it only took a few hours for my family to ride everything (Pilgrims Plunge was down) on the dry side, some multiple times. NO experience with the wet side but it looked very packed from the Coasters. I liked The Voyage, Liberty Launch and Raging Rapids.
jdawg1998
You can most likely skip rides like Scarecrow Scrambler, Turkey Whirl, and those kinds of rides, but rides that you must go on are Liberty Launch, Pilgrim's Plunge, Gobbler Getaway, and Eagle's Flight. In the waterpark, try and ride everything. When I went last year I rode two slides and no Wildebeest.

TombRaiderFTW
I agree with Rotag. Unless you're powerwalking on an incredibly dead day, you're not going to be able to cover all of both Holiday World and Splashin' Safari in one day. Like he said, take a day to enjoy the dry park, then take the next day and take in the water park. Each half has its own charms that you'll miss if you try to cram all of it into one day. jcgoble3
[...] free [...] lockers (@ the coasters) [...] IIRC, the water rides on the dry side of the park have free lockers also.

Yes, they have lockers at the exits of the dry park water rides. One of my favorite things there.

I personally can't imagine needing to spend 2 days there. If you get there at opening you should be able to hit most of the feature larger rides. Why would you NEED to ride a scrambler (with turkey heads), monster, bumper cars or any other ride that you can find at any county fair or town fair? Ride 'em if you like 'em but you can't really honestly say it's a can't miss or anything. I went there on Tuesday, July 12th. Rode The Raven, Legend, Log Ride then waterpark and hit Pilgrims Plunge and Wildebeast was going to hit Voyage a bit later and rest of the park, but severe storms with lightning shut pretty much everything down by about 2:30p. We were going to try to wait it out cause I wanted to ride Voyage, but then discovered a long line at customer service where they were giving free tix for a return visit with the only caveat being that you had to leave the park immediately and not return that day. That was at 5pm and we took their offer. I can't imagine in a million years a Cedar Fair property taking care of their guests in that manner. On the downside . . . water park slammed on a smoking hot 100 degree Tuesday. Worse . . . expecting to cool down in the waterpark only to find water temperatures that exceeded 90 degs. Absolutely ridiculous that they don't get some new water in their to cool that down. Completely ruined it IMO.

The Interpreter
Not to mention there are those who would say why would you NEED to ride a coaster? After all, all any of them are is just a series of hills, going up and down. We are all different people with varying tastes. Some of us can even discern major differences between seemingly identical Tilt-A-Whirls. At least one member here has driven hundreds of miles one way, just to ride a rare Octopus or Tempest. TheLip2
What is a rare Octopus? I seriously don't know and am interested. I just imagine in my mind that all of them I ever road all seemed about the same I was never saying that no one would be interested in these types of rides, I am just saying that i don't think they provide a particularly "unique" ride experience that is very different than you can easily get without driving a few hundred miles and paying $43. So, in a nutshell, It was my first visit to Holiday World and I was looking to experience rides and things that I hadn't experienced before and that I could not easily experience or replicate within a shorter driving distance. On another note: Spent two days at Kings Dominion in the middle or late June and was totally blown away. Loved the park. Intimidator 305 was easily my favorite coaster of all time. Volcano coaster was awesome. Theming was awesome. Boo Blasters theming on the outside was on par with Disney. The Crypt . . . give us that ride! Liked the old El Dorado ride that came from up north. $5 wristbands refill your souvenir cup all day! Rides lines were very short. Ten percent off Beagle Bucks with your platinum card and they can be used at any Cedar Fair Park. They would not, however, let us use our Kings Island or Cedar Point souvenir cups and both other parks have let me do this.
The Interpreter
I truly doubt you have ever ridden an Octopus. A Spider is not an Octopus, nor is a Monster. Octopi have straight arms and a very different ride experience. I last rode one at Lakemont. Then there are even Schwarzkopf versions of these rides. I'm on my iPhone. I'll let someone else post pictures of the rides.
The Beast Rider
My link Here is a picture of a real Octopus. It really is a very different ride from a Spider, even though they both work on the same principle. Enjoy!!

I just don't think many people drive a few hundred miles to specifically ride them or other rides like them.
silver2005
I guess I should explain a little bit about myself in relation to how I go about park visits now. Also, please keep on topic, I could use some heads up info on things like what kinds of waits to expect, some good tips as to how I should plan my day, etc. I don't want all your gripes messing with what I want out of this trip. I like to take in everything parks have to offer. Whether it be the rides, shows, food, atmosphere, staff, etc., I like to soak it all in because I'm about experiencing parks as a whole. I've been to Kings Island, Cedar Point, Kings Dominion, Hersheypark, Dollywood, Six Flags Great Adventure, WDW Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, and Universal Studios Florida, of which, Dollywood is my favorite as a whole in relation to my tastes and expectations. I appreciate everything in what parks offer for entertainment and how they present it. I wouldn't count out spending 2 days at Holiday World, mainly because I want to soak up all of what both the dry park and the water park have to offer. Part of why I do that is due to the fact I could very well not be riding coasters at all, or heck even be here due to a few past circumstances (which I would like to keep to myself, at least not through posting, I'm ok with explaining it through PM or whatnot, I would like to get to know some members of this site as I live in the Cincinnati area). That experience kind of changed how I look at parks and rides as well as being knowledgeable though working for another site and the research on things I've had to do for news, blogs and such. I just wanted to give you guys a heads up on my tastes, expectations, and such when it comes to parks. Hopefully, this will give you guys an idea on gearing suggestions to fit how I'm planning this trip. Thanks for those who've given suggestions so far! BTW, I'm still up in the air about making it 1 or 2 days. Most of that decision stems from other things going on.
