That's the shed at Peanuts 500 (or "kid pike" as we called it when I worked there). I believe that window is still there.

Worth noting in the Monster photo are The Racer trains, which featured four cars per train when the ride originally opened in 1972. Due to the ride's popularity, a fifth car was added in 1973 to incr

  • Wow, that Flight of Fear picture brings back a lot of memories. It was a very warm and sunny June Monday. I just graduated from Princeton HS and was working in an office in St. Bernard. They didn't

I think you might be able to see it from the inside, and not sure what year but its from the 90's.

Interesting picture Paul, I believe that is the first overhead view of Coney Mall I have seen that includes Flight Commander.

Ahh, what a pretty overview of Coney Mall. How much has changed. Just 3 days until opening!

The Racer has stayed consistent for the past 40 years. Here's to another 40, Racer!

... Uh, not really. From last bunny hop to track lubrication to train cushioning to seat dividers to manual braking to seat belts to head rests to individually ratcheting restraints to backwards operation to Fast Lane to queue line location, much, much has changed over the years. Even the age of the ride ops, and I dont just mean because 40 years has passed....

Wow, you're good, Terp! I guess I meant to say that Racer has stayed consistent in the Coney Island/Mall skyline for the past 40 years.

From gorgeous red track layers, gleaming white structure and blue handrails color scheme with awesome chaser lights and no brake sheds to what it looks like today.

Unless I'm wrong, that is KI's Delirium fully built at the HUSS factory in Germany before they shipped it off to KI. They did a full round of tests before shipping it out.

Oh yes I remember the sippers. I remember the vendor used to have a cutter that he/she would snip the tops off with. Remember the glow ropes you would put around your neck, then stick in the freezer hoping to get some extra time out of them. They used to sell them when it got dark out. Also does anybody remember the Q102 days they had back in the early 80's, the Mello Yello t-shirts they gave away?

Racer had chaser lights? I would love to see that again. Even Stricker's can afford chaser lights for Tornado (which look great at night!)

i have silently been looking through the posts and i must say the photos are amazing. i finally can see what my mom went on about and where old rides are that i never remmber being there.

Racer still has chaser lights up the lift and first drop. It would be awesome to have them through the entire ride.

Thank you for all these great pictures! Just 2 more days! And, do you know why there is people on Deliriums test?

Thanks for all the photos, TOPGUN1993! Great way to pass the offseason!

Love the Phantom Theater picture! Also as jcgoble said, thanks for all the pictures and work you put into this topic, truly appreciated!

Paul, thank you SO much for taking the time to put this all together for us...it really has helped pass the time. Your work is appreciated. :)

(P.S. Have fun on opening day!)

So, can I assume that there are no more pictures coming in this thread? How dissapointing, thanks for spoiling us over the winter topgun, its been a blast viewing all of these old shots.

When I was younger, Phantom Theater was always my favorite ride at the park. I would always ride it with my dad the moment we got to the park. I have so many memories on that ride, and that is just one of the reasons I love going back to Kings Island. Kings Island holds a special place in my heart, which is why I can't wait until opening day every year. I hope everyone has a great time tomorrow, because I know I will.

TOPGUN1993, thank you so much for all the work put into this thread. The offseason is over in just 18 hours and 30 minutes. This was a great way for me to enjoy my offseason, and for it to pass by quicker. Also, thanks to standbyme for the entertainment in the first part of the offseason, with his "Standing within 3 feet of 1973" topic. The time has passed with these threads, because KI is about to open. Thanks for the threads, standbyme and TOPGUN1993!
