July 10, 201214 yr http://www.mysanantonio.com/business/article/The-Rattler-will-close-Aug-5-3694324.phpy I only rode it once a few years ago. It was pretty rough, but the first drop was amazing and the way it was built into the stone quarry made the ride even cooler.
July 10, 201214 yr It's always sad to see a coaster get torn down, especially one that I will never get to ride. Seems like an OK ride, I wish I could have ridden it in its original form.
July 10, 201214 yr Torn down? “All I can say is, it will be going away on Aug. 5,” park spokeswoman Sydne Purvis said. “That's all I can tell you.” Neither here nor there.
July 10, 201214 yr A notoriously rough coaster that has been modified and has a history of lawsuits is being shut down? I've heard this story somewhere........
July 10, 201214 yr It really was a "small scale" version. The same history, just with significantly lower expenditures all around (including legal fees).
July 10, 201214 yr It's too bad history repeated itself as opposed to being learned from. Imagine where KI would be today.....
July 10, 201214 yr It was reported awhile back that it would receive TG treatment, and this article is, like GYK said, neither here nor there. I think the TG treatment could come to fruition.
July 10, 201214 yr ^ The whole "TG treatment" is a farce. TG is a brand new coaster with a similar layout to the coaster formerly know as TG.
July 10, 201214 yr Maybe that's why "your last chance to ride The Rattler" is next month. Even if a new coaster were to resemble it or share part of its name, it would be a totally different coaster.
July 10, 201214 yr I thought that The Rattler was getting updated in a similar way to Texas Giant? And By saying "Last Riders" they could have meant the last riders on what we know now as The Rattler not a new refurbished Rattler.
July 10, 201214 yr I thought there was an official announcement from Rocky Mountain at IAAPA or something that Rattler was next for them? Maybe I'm confusing it with something else.
July 10, 201214 yr I thought there was an official announcement from Rocky Mountain at IAAPA or something that Rattler was next for them? Maybe I'm confusing it with something else. Thats what I thought.....
July 10, 201214 yr I know Rocky Mountain did some topper tracking to the ride a few years ago. There was also talk of them completely re-doing the ride, but nothing confirmed that I know of. Perhaps this is the beginning of doing just that, we shall see. Edit - By the accounts that I have read online in the last 15 minutes, all signs point to the ride being shut down in order for Rocky Mountain construction renovate the ride. If another ride with a terrible reputation, with lawsuits galore is being taken on by this group, holds out a bit of hope for a certain woody.
July 10, 201214 yr Rode the Rattler early this year. It was to bad of a ride, but I was sitting by myself.
July 10, 201214 yr Rode the Rattler early this year. It was to bad of a ride, but I was sitting by myself. Did you mean NOT too bad of a ride? Terp, otherwise confusigated.
July 11, 201214 yr Just wondering the current Rattler drops 55' less than it's height. Wild Eagle drops 60' ft less than it's height (more if you count down to the sidewalk and not the lift). Are there many other coasters in which their drops are over 50' less than their heights? Such wasted potential energy, at least Rattler opened with a better ratio, of course I'm still saddened WE didn't make a dive off the side.
July 11, 201214 yr Rattler didn't open that way... EDIT: And for every Rattler or Wild Eagle, there's a Phantom's Revenge or Apollo's Chariot. Explain them statistics!
