westcoaster
Great Wolf announced they are building right next to Disney Land in California? So it seems they have a niche product. I'll admit as a family place my boys love any Great Wolf, we tried the indoor water park in Friendship Indiana that was good. (not far from HOLIDAYWORLD) Coco Key is the worst to many day passes, not that great of hotels. But the key to family fun is indoor parks, no sun burning no one hot , and limited people as in only the hotels. Is great wolf higher than some sure, but you go build what is a climate controlled family fun dome, and an incredible food establishments, and nice lodge atmosphere, it costs. Friends of ours just went even in the summer months in the Natti Location, they loved it! Have been hyping it, so much.
Browntggrr
The Kings Island version's overusage of chlorine is extraordinary. There is a good chance they don't even use chlorine, but the less abrasive bromine.Either way, the chemical(s) used in pools/ spas is strictly overseen by the Warren Co. Health Dept. That includes overusing the chemical as well which can be more harmful than inadequate amounts. Recreational Water Illnesses (RWI's) are prevented by maintaining proper water chemistry, as well as, properly operating recirculation, filtration and disinfection equipment. These items are checked during each pool and spa inspection. Safety is improved by our insuring the availability of safety equipment, warning signs, life guard certifications and the maintenance and sanitation of related structures during our inspections. Operators are required to keep a log of the water quality tests, accidents which occurred and chemicals added on a Weekly Operation Report . For situations when a pool or spa is contaminated with fecal or vomitus material, the Fecal Incident Flow Chart must be followed. http://www.wcchd.com/environmental-public-swimming-pools.aspx

The irritants are usually disinfection byproducts, which ironically can increase when not enough chemical is used. These byproducts are created when the disinfection chemicals interact with organic contaminants in the water. For this reason, it's important that all bathers properly shower with soap before entering. (Yes, I'm aware that most, in the US at least, do not.) On that note, Cedar Point's Soak City really needs more than 2 shower stalls in the men's changing room. Properly working shower heads would also be a plus there.
LongLiveTheSmurfRide
Great Wolf Lodge is an indoor waterpark resort, based around on the cliché central theme of wolves and wilderness. markr
The only improvements CP needs to make for the resorts is to lower the prices. Try negotiating your price with a manager,i have never paid full price. In fact,i have paid almost half price calling the day before! Dont let my secret out! I should add this doesnt always work,i have stayed at the old Red Roof Inn too The only improvements CP needs to make for the resorts is to lower the prices. I should add this doesnt always work,i have stayed at the old Red Roof Inn too Your secret is safe with me. ( lol.) Even though it is pricey, I did stay at Hotel Breakers on one trip. I got a three night package deal. Even though it was a little pricey, it was still worth it.
Leland Wykoff
Toledo Blade has an article rich with details of the planned hotel refreshment and refurbishment at Cedar Point: http://www.toledoblade.com/State/2012/12/02/Firm-to-invest-60M-to-restore-old-hotels-and-beach-properties.html Worth the read.
Leland Wykoff
Hotel Breakers Remodel Extensive, Beyond Refreshment New photos documenting the extensive interior demolition, renovation, rebuild, and restoration of Hotel Breakers at Cedar Point: https://www.cedarpoint.com/blog-article/online-fun/Hotel-Breakers-Progress Note photos of interior stripped down to framing bare bones and new space layout underway. For a good follow-up article please see: http://www.morningjournal.com/general-news/20141030/hotel-breakers-entrance-demolished-as-cedar-point-plans-renovations This article reports the rotunda will be preserved to its original glory, will restore guest rooms to the rotunda, re imaged front entrance, refrigerators, LCD terminals, new and refreshed walk-in beach style pool with hot tubs and water play areas, the lobby, reception, and rotunda areas will be restored to near original look while guest and public rooms will be realigned and receive new fixtures and furniture. All of this seems to be well beyond the originally announced "hotel refreshment" program. Having considered, in this forum, the costs per room Cedar Fair likely planned to expend the scope of the project comes as no surprise. See my post above (comment 13) from November 7, 2012.

CoastersRZ
They have spent a lot of money on Hotel Breakers updating it. Hopefully, it translates into increased bookings for the hotel.
The Interpreter
Huh? More like higher effective rates and yet increased guest satisfaction. Mr. Kinzel is well and truly gone.
jsus
Increased bookings on decreased room count? That's not likely, but then that's not what they're looking for. It seems more like Ouimet wants to maximize the profit per room.

Leland Wykoff
Excellent updated news on Hotel Breakers renovation and reopening. See story, video, and photos: http://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2015/04/cedar_points_historic_hotel_br.html Story reports room count dropped to 511 from the former 650. However, many of the accommodations are now suites. Rotunda rooms are again open after many years of being closed. Rates are comparable with last seasons and are reported to range from $200.00 standard, to $500.00 for a suite. A nice (short) historic photo tour is also attached to the story. Enjoy!
Italian Job 2005
I was just re-reading some of the posts here and I really do like the idea of possibly Cedar Fair buying Great Wolf Lodge in Mason and re-branding it to Castaway Bay or something of the sort. I stayed in Castaway Bay two years ago and it was a great experience.

The wolfs are allover that place.

Leland Wykoff
It is not clear Cedar Fair has maximized the winter usage and occupancy at Castaway Bay. Perhaps now Hotel Breakers is rebuilt (with insulation and weatherization) management will work to extend the season for these resorts and sell rooms in the off seasons. This could be a boost to hotel revenues, and thus achieve a leveling and reduction of costs, resulting in more profitability. Considering Hotel Breakers now enjoys the largest capital investment ever made on Cedar Point is seems likely CEO Matt Ouimett will move to make the investment payoff handsomely. Ouimett knows from his time at Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Disney a hotel room is one of the most perishable items in existence. If you do not sell the room tonight you can never sell that room night in the future. The revenue opportunity spoiled and can never be recovered. Your cost of inventory is very high on the fixed cost side--think capital investment, labor, marketing, insurance, utilities--while very slim on the variable cost side--think housekeeping and some utility costs. Rates at Hotel Breakers are inline with the previous years rates. Room count is down (loss of at least a wing of rooms) offset by a greater number of suites. Suites should command higher Average Daily Revenues. The low hanging fruit to pick thus becomes renting more rooms in the off seasons. Hotel Breakers is now nice enough to attract meeting business and specialty groups in the shoulder seasons. Look for management to begin to improve yield management of Castaway Bay and Hotel Breakers. That is the ripe opportunity.
vortexfan
Rates at Hotel Breakers are inline with the previous years rates. This is probably the most pleasantly surprising thing about the entire renovation, for me at least. I thought for sure the room rates would go up substantially. It's made choosing between Lighthouse Point or Hotel Breakers a bit harder for the next trip.
