Dieseltech20
I am sure parents won't want to be in the car 2 and a half hours to drive to holiday world over KK. This parent would and he lives 30 minutes from KK. The only thing I want to do at KK is take a couple rides on Thunder Run.
jdawg1998
Mr. hart will just have to run one train on thunder run to keep up with Holiday World. I think he can pull that off. Holiday world is over an hour away from KK, their water park is pretty good after their most recent expansion in the chang area. I am sure parents won't want to be in the car 2 and a half hours to drive to holiday world over KK. Really, really? What do you see in Kentucky Kingdom that is so great??! YoungStud
A large water park and some rides. I am saying that excluding diesel tech (who is on here so he likes coasters) the general public won't want to blow a tank of gas coming and going to Santa Clause if they live close to KK. The Interpreter
They did before, why not now? For one thing, Holiday World is a very safe park in a very different environment, to be kind.

I am saying that excluding diesel tech (who is on here so he likes coasters) the general public won't want to blow a tank of gas coming and going to Santa Clause if they live close to KK. I live 1/2 hr closer to Indiana Beach than Kings Island. I can get a season pass for $20.00 cheaper per person than I can a gold pass to KI. Does that mean I won't want to blow extra gas money to drive to KI or season pass? I have been for years! Another scenario: For some (especially those from Indy) going to Cedar Point is further for than KI. Five hour vs two hour drive, and plenty of people do that all the time!
YoungStud
^ Like dieseltech you are not your average general public, you belong to a coaster site. If you did not like coasters you would buy passes or go once a year to IB probably. Terp: kk has been closed for a while, gas was a lot cheaper then. sccard01
As the days go by, more and more people are getting excited about the future of Kentucky Kingdom from those I've talked to here in Louisville. Holiday World should be worried IMO. It has been semi-confirmed to us what new attractions Kentucky Kingdom is getting in their waterpark. The park is also planning to introduce a new coaster as we all know. The park is also promising to be the cheapest park in the region. Why Shouldn 't they be worried? My last visit to Holiday World was not that great. Several popular rides where not in oepration, I noticed that prices have inflated. It just seems like Holiday World is losing it's identity. A season pass to Holiday World cost- $129.99 Kentucky Kingdom... $59.99? That was stated in the RFP. But I would not say that price is a fact. They did before, why not now?For one thing, Holiday World is a very safe park in a very different environment, to be kind. Safe? are you sure about that? I have to disagree terp.

sccard01
That's a problem with every park as we all know. Unless you left out in the country (HW).

For me personally, true, but I was talking about the general public. (Families) When going to KI with my wife and kids I am there to be with them, not be an enthusiast. Those are days I take separate for myself! There are plenty on this site that only visit the park once a year or less. Last weekend was my first visit to IB in 2 years. Those who will take Holiday World over Kentucky Kingdom will not allow high gas prices to keep them from going to the park of their choice.

Being a member of a park fan site does not really make you a coaster enthusiast either. It is what you want it to be!
YoungStud
The family with the dad wearing a wife beater and boots will choose kk cause its close and cheap. IndyGuy4KI
Youngstud, I have drove 3 hrs from Indy to go to Holiday World, pulling a camper at 9 MPG just 2 years ago. In all due respect, your assumptions of all families are ludicrous.
YoungStud
Again, your not the general public. Kk will get their fair share of business.
Creed Bratton
Has anyone noticed that intamin rides run flawless overseas? I know this isn't really 2014 news..but it's rides like these that make me question what's the point of them? Giraffica (?), to me is so boring, you leave the station, travel through a trough that doesn't have dips, "rapids," etc. that lead up to a tower that immediately sends the boat down and to turn into the station. Divertical, yeah has more of a roller coaster feel to it, but it doesn't look like much of a water ride to me. I feel like Holiday World could benefit Giraffica by adding more to the layout and what not. On topic, this isn't something I'll be loading up the family (if I had one) to head to Holiday World for. To me, I think why bother? If you're going to spend $6.5 the previous year in the water park and then the following year bring in 1 new ride, fireworks and "improvements" (that have yet to be announced) to the parking lot, why bother? IMO a viking ship isn't going to bring in the masses nor are fireworks on Friday nights. But then again, I'm not the target audience...or anymore.
IndyGuy4KI
Again, your not the general public. Kk will get their fair share of business. When I am with my family at any park, I am a general public member just as much as anyone else. Am I a GOCC member, yes. Do I go flashing my membership card expecting something from the park because of it, no. I also believe that KK will get a good amount of business. Will they take some business from HW, of course, you know that HW got some of KK's business when it closed. They will regain some of that back. I think Mayflower will be a nice addition to HW. I am just glad that they are adding something to the dry side of the park this time!
The Interpreter
As much as it pains me to say it, I think Lori Koch has a better bead on her target audience than Ed Hart does. Cheapest park? $60 season passes? Who is that going to attract? Does the business model even work?

IndyGuy4KI
Get people in the door and sale food, souveniers, etc. If they only have the money to get in the door, but no money to spend in the park, per caps sales are not going to keep the park afloat! jcgoble3
So let me see if I've got this straight, YoungStud: you claim to know what the general public will want to do and imply that nobody on here can possibly know otherwise because the simple fact that we are on a coaster forum makes us all enthusiasts? There's one major flaw in that line of thinking: YOU are ALSO on a coaster forum, therefore according to your own line of thinking you are also also an enthusiast and thus cannot know what the the general public is thinking. Give me a break.
