TheBEASTunchained Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 The official name of the ride is "The Beast." 5 Quote
The Interpreter Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Now. It was not always thus. There was a time when enthusiasts used to get upset with those who called it The Beast. See also, as Jeff Seibert called it, The Son of Beast. 6 Quote

jcgoble3 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 RCDB is not a reliable source; it is like the Wikipedia of the coaster world. Try explaining that to the regular editors who maintain most of the amusement park–related articles on Wikipedia. jcgoble3, who's been there, done that, and doesn't want to fight that dragon again 5 Quote
The Interpreter Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 ...or to the media. In the real world, such decisions are made by the influencers who control information disseminators, not by public or even private school teachers. 3 Quote

Spectrum91 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Huh? In 1979, Kings Island called it Beast, as does rcdb even today: http://rcdb.com/67.htm Now. It was not always thus. There was a time when enthusiasts used to get upset with those who called it The Beast. See also, as Jeff Seibert called it, The Son of Beast. 1. RCDB doesn't use "the" for any roller coaster. Saying that RCDB calls it "Beast" versus "The Beast" is meaningless. 2. In 1979, Kings Island called it The Beast. It's always been called The Beast, in its logo, in park maps and brochures, and the like. It has only very rarely been addressed as simply "Beast", such as in this directory here. But note again, like RCDB, it doesn't use "The" for anything. And everywhere else in that brochure, in the ride descriptions and the logos and also on the map, it says "The Beast". 3 Quote
BoddaH1994 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 The "the" thing for any ride is something unique to here, as far as actually having concern over it. Like I pointed out in another thread, the new ride is named "Banshee" but some of the merch in its gift shop says, "Keep Calm and ride The Banshee." This is a thing that only enthusiasts get upset about. 9 Quote

homestar92 Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 It still irks me that the park map says "The Vortex". There is no "The" on the sign, on the merchandise, or in the ride's name as listed on the park's website. Plus, how can it be "The" Vortex when there are 3 other ones in the same chain of parks? 8 Quote

BoddaH1994 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I really really can't believe this argument is happening now, and not in the off season. Of course, this year The Beach will have snow tubing, so that'll help........ 5 Quote

Of course, this year The Beach will have snow tubing, so that'll help........ Just wait until March. There's no snow tubing, spring's close enough to get everyone excited, but the park's closed for yet another month. If only SNICKERS brand candy worked on roller coaster cravings... 5 Quote
KIBeast Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 And here I thought The Bat was flying again. Anyway, having ridden the original Bat, I'm glad the name came back. I would like to have seen the old style cars come back with the actual bats on them. However, it's nice that the coaster was painted and re-named. I didn't like the Flight Deck name. Now, they just need to re-name the old Back Lot Stunt Coaster into something cool. Not sure what they could change it to though. I have a question. The coaster called "The Demon" I had always heard as The Screamin' Demon. Was it ever called that? And if so, when did that change? 4 Quote
The Interpreter Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 That coaster opened as Screamin' Demon. It later was referred to by the park as just Demon, then was relocated to Camden Park as Thunderbolt Express. EDIT: Corrected. Thanks, Spectrum91! 3 Quote
tuxedoman52 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 That coaster opened as Demon. It later was renamed Screamin' Demon, then relocated to Camden Park as Thunderbolt Express. ...And then taken down in 2005 to make room for a mini-golf course. 1 Quote
silver2005 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 RCDB is not a reliable source; it is like the Wikipedia of the coaster world. RCDB is semi-in touch with most parks (I've emailed them on something about getting pictures up and they mentioned that). I consider them pretty darn reputable. For example, they just don't go randomly adding rides to their list. They first have to have hard evidence, either an announcement or parts on site before they're allowed to put a ride up. Its not like Screamscape. 3 Quote
jcgoble3 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 As of yesterday, RCDB claims that Diamondback cars have a single row of 4 seats, not two rows of two seats. Their own photo gallery proves them wrong. Transmitted from Wild Space via my datapad's DROID brain 3 Quote
silver2005 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Ok, yes, there are weird interpretations like that and the fact they label the RMC Topper coasters as wooden coasters, but other than that, I still make them my go-to for info. 3 Quote
The Interpreter Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 ...and they won't list Haunted House at Camden Park as a coaster...for absolutely no defensible reason... 4 Quote
thegajone Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I always personally considered Demon Drop to be a coaster as well, although I'm pretty sure RCDB is not alone in their disagreement with me on that matter. 3 Quote

Coasterama Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 I don't see why this is still an ongoing discussion. Some enthusiasts like to be thorough. Very thorough. Then again, Kings Island did resurrect a legendary coaster title that has been lying dormant in the "vault" for many years. 1 Quote
