briansaid1
Is there a special price $30 to renew an unused 2013 gold pass for 2014? If so is there a promo code? Thanks
malem
There's no promo code to do that, but Guest Services may be able to help you next season. In prior years, they have allowed one to "upgrade" an unused season pass from the prior year to be valid for the current season instead. This would cost less than a renewal. If you would like to ask the park about the current policy, you can contact them here: https://www.visitkingsisland.com/contact-us Be aware that they might not be able to give you an answer until some point closer to the 2014 season. Tomorrow (10/31) is the last day to get the lowest price on new and renewed 2014 season passes.
KI-ORIG-EMP
As long as the 2013 pass HAS not been used (even once), you can roll it over to a 2014 pass for a small fee at any sales window or in Guest Services, which are closed until next season. BoddaH1994
^ I'm not sure if that rule is still in place. It used to be that your pass had to be completely unprocessed, but that was before you could just renew your pass. Definitely contact the park for a definite answer and let us know what they say.
Voicetek
Is it just me or does anyone else think that it's kind of a rip off that a brand new 2014 season pass and a renewal of 2013 season pass are both the same price? Why would I renew when I could just buy new and get a brand new card and everything? I liked it when they had a renewal special and you could save a few bucks.
medford
renewing saves you the hassel of having to get your picture taken again and filling out the forms. Should there be a cost savings in renewing a pass vs purchasing a new one today? I don't know, I'm not in charge of marketing, I'd lean towards yes just in the terms that a renewal is less work for Cedar Fair/KI than getting a new pass the additional costs associated w/ the physical cost of the card and processing. However, I can't say its a rip off, those costs are minimal. For roughly $90, I'll make about 15 visits next year. Toss in my wife and son and 1 year old daughter (who won't be charged until she's 3 I believe) and as a family, we'll be spending roughly $18 to get into the park each time we visit as a family. When you consider the costs of going to the movies, measuems, places like entertainment junction, etc... the season passes that we've purchased are a down right steal, easily the most bang for the buck we get as a family.
jcgoble3
They typically do have a special price for renewals. Look for it tomorrow when prices go up. The current prices, ending today, are so low to begin with that a further discount is not warranted.
Voicetek
In past seasons, I've always been able to renew my gold pass for $69. My fiance and I have done that for at least the past 3 or 4 years. And we usually do it on the last day we visit for the season. I was surprised not to see that being offered this year. Don't get me wrong, the current price is still a good one, it's just that I was hoping to see the renewal promo going on again like always. jcgoble3
The $69 price was last offered in 2011. Last year they were $79. In both cases, the price was the same regardless of whether you were renewing or purchasing new. As I said above, look for a renewal discount tomorrow (but today's price will still be lower).
LoraX
I really don't think the price is bad. This is the first year we've done the payment plan. The past few years I did the order by the end of year and pay in April deal. Now, what I did notice, we had purchased one extra pass for a girl that lived with us at the time and it was I think $109, but we were able to renew I think at the $85.50 price. (It's been a crazy year and my dollar amounts maybe off a little, I do know the cost to renew was the same or just a little more than what I paid this year, maybe $89?) We went 15 times this year, cost per visit is under $6 per visit. With a new coaster going in I am super happy the cost did not go up. Renewing your pass also keeps you from having to wait in the worst line in the park on opening day....the season pass line. jcgoble3
Gold Passes are now $117 for new purchases, $98 for renewals. So renewals are cheaper by $19... but yesterday's price of $85.50 was cheaper still. Regular passes are $106 new/$90 renewal. Again, yesterday's Gold Pass prices were cheaper than even the regular renewal price. Platinum is $187 new/$182 renewal. Yesterday's price was slightly cheaper, but not by much ($180). So yes, there are renewal discounts, but you would have been better off buying yesterday anyway.
jdf21972
I think most people are going to be in sticker shock for the pass prices. $117 on a new pass, $98 on renewal. I think it will keep some people away from the park this year. Cannot wait to hear what people do 2014. The Interpreter
New ride = stronger desire to visit = higher pricing.
MantisMan
Glad I bought mine at the discounted rate. Question....do they do the discount every year at the end of the current season or was this a one-time sale?
The Interpreter
Rates always increase shortly after the season ends, and progressively rise in staged steps.
MantisMan
That's what I figured.....thanks Terpy.
LoraX
People are silly. It is announced frequently all over the place "lowest prices for 2014" or some form of that. I also think people think (or not so much) that Kings Island is not in this for profit and should keep prices incredibly low all the time. They offer discounted tickets in a variety of places, they offer discounted season passes before the season ends and even extend it after the season ends for those who forget. They open up opportunity by years end to do a buy now, pay later option. I really find it amazing that people would be surprised that prices go up. Then again, people complain about everything. Need a rain check policy (check the forecast before you go), stupid Fast Lane passes, souvenir cups only good that were sold this year, blah blah blah. I've never bought a Fast Lane pass myself, but man, that is a great idea for a straight up profit for a company when people are more than willing to pay for it.
fryoj
I'm not happy about the 2014 price increase, but at least we aren't in Orlando. You could get a ki gold pass cheaper than a single day at one of the big Orlando parks.
The Interpreter
If you LIVE in Florida, you can get Florida resident passes very economically, but they do have blackout dates (dates when the parks are expected to be tremendously busy, anyway). Proof of Florida residency is required.
homestar92
If you or someone close to you works for Cincinnati Financial Corporation, you may want to hold off on buying a pass. During their buyout day (Usually the next day after Opening day) they have in years past sold gold passes at outrageously low prices. A few years back, I got my gold pass for $49.99 that way. It is worth noting that this may have changed since 2011.
The Interpreter
Be aware, however, that what day any park closure is is very much open to negotiation by both parties. There can be no assurance when, or even if, that or any particular 'company day' will be. Yes, the park was closed the Sunday after Diamondback debuted. Different era for Cedar Fair. What may happen this time around may be very different. Or not. If I were Mr. Ouimet, I might GIVE each participant in that particular outing a gold pass, provided the company waited until a later Sunday to have their Kings Island day.
