Coney Mall Update

Today I heard about some improvements, and some not so improvements to Coney Mall. There's only two real ones that I'm aware of actually. Scrambler has been painted a bright yellow for the most part, and Racer now has seatbelts. Racer with seatbelts is gonna be a big drag I feel.

Seatbelts on The Racer seems safe but it robs us of our airtime

What airtime?!?!? This is The Racer we're talking about here folks!

You're surely not that fat that you can't have airtime are you? I think it provides great airtime!

For Racer air time, you have to try the front of the train. I suggest either the first or second seats in the first car.

Judging from other PTC's I've ridden with seatbelts, I don't expect a huge difference in the ride's performance. My only concern is the longer wait, while people learn how to actually use a seatbelt. I think at first, most people will just sit on 'em.

They are retractable so noone can sit on em lol. The belts arent nearly as bad as everyone makes them sound though.

Are the seat belts going to go across you? Or are they just going to be attached to the lap bar, like on FOF? If they are just attached to the lap bar they shouldn't be too bad. But if they go across you, like at Cedar Point on the Mean Streak and the Blue Streak that may be bad.

That's cool. I can remember people complaining when these trains were fitted with the current orange bars. ('93 season, I think) People complained that those would "kill" the ride quality... everyone just needs to get used to them.

BTW, Rickster...are you going to get to work Eagles this Saturday? If so, I look forward to meeting ya...and seeing the rest of the returning crew.

The only thing I am not going to like about the seatbealts is slower loading times, your gonna get those people that either A. dont see the belts and the attendant says buckle please, B. the overweight person is gonna have a problem. C. kids are gonna need help. d. getting out will be an extra step.. But all in all I dont mind them just makes for a slower line to get on the ride...

No im off saturday I might be in the park though. Then sunday I work and im not sure if ill be on bst or eagles until then. Overweight people will have NO problems. If you could fit on it before you still will now. The belts go out a HUGH lenth more then they need to.

The load/unload time shouldn't be affected too much, if the person can't fit in the belt, they probably can't fit the bar either, the people that won't realize the seatbelt is there will probably be the same people that leave their bar up until the attendant gets there and there is at least one person on every train that doesn't understand "push down and pull up" on every train so the unload time shouldn't be affected with the extra step of unbuckling the seatbelt.

I'll throw my two cents in....

I also think The Racer has great air! It is my favorite coaster there.

as others mentioned... the seatbelts have been added to all Paramount Parks wooden coasters that run PTC trains. This was dictated by PTC and not PKI. Because PTC "strongly recommended" the addition of seatbelts to all parks that run their trains, Paramount was essentially required to do so (insurance.) I expect we will see them on many coasters within other chains as well. This is a direct result of the Holiday World Fatality last year.

I personally am not concerned about affected ride, but also am concerned about affected dispatch times. This is another challenge for guests, who seemingly can't think for themselves when they enter a park.

I am also hearing that they are retractable belts. Personally I think non-retractable slide belts are a much better option. Beastie's retractables have proven that they tend to jam or get stuck... making it an even bigger challenge to load.
