gad198
I don't know what's actually coming to Cedar Point next year. Having said that - the fact that they've relocated other rides, cleared a large amount of land already, put up temporary fences around the perimeter and started a "coaster" timeline indicates that something large is likely on the way. I definitely wouldn't dismiss the dive coaster rumor. Here are a few things I believe are pertinent: Dive coaster installations usually take up much less room than many other B&M coaster types. The Sandusky Register piece indicated that this new addition would feature multiple inversions. The only dive coasters that have done inversions (other than an Immelmann) opened this year. One of these new dive machines opened up at Gardaland, the same park that debuted the wing coaster shortly before Gatekeeper came on board. On a related note, the Register leak indicated that the new ride would feature 24-seat trains (3 rows of 8 passengers). Most assumed that the trains would be more like Griffon for capacity reasons (30-seat, 3 rows of 10), but closer study would show that it would be easier for an 8-seat wide train to roll through a tighter inversion - a zero-g roll for instance - than it would be for a 10-person train. Cedar Fair has shown recently - especially under Ouimet - that they like to debut taller, faster, longer versions of coasters that already exist someplace else versus being the guinea pig for brand new coaster types. Cedar Fair large coaster additions in the recent past have all been extremely high capacity. Dive coasters can actually have two trains on the lift at the same time, so if the station and blocks are set up properly they should be able to get 1200-1300 pph consistently if not more. I'm not saying that all of this points to a dive coaster, but as goodyellowkorn182 pointed out dive coasters are a ton of fun, they're incredibly re-rideable and unlike any other coaster that Cedar Point has in their lineup right now. I'd like to see another wooden coaster and/or an RMC Mean Streak conversion eventually, but a dive coaster would be a nice addition if that's what this turns out to be.
Steph88
Edit: I just learned what an Immellman is. Nevermind.
purdude86
I agree with gad198. I think one of the biggest aspects for a dive coaster going in as well si the fact that it is quite different from anything else the park already has, and the fact that the closest one is in Willaimsburg, VA is another boost for it. It's not going to be competing witha similar coaster close by. The fact that they are doing a history timeline of heir coasters on the construction walls seems to give a good indication that it will in fact be a coaster as well. The only other main type of coaster I can think of that they don't have is a wild mouse/spinning type and I feel like a dive coaster would probably be a bigger draw for their park so think it'd be more likley. Agree as well that an RMC conversion of Mean Streak would be great in the future as well. It is a good coaster and area for one. And on it's own is decent but can get pretty rough now.
Julius Seizure
I'm still waiting for an LSM-launched flyer but I don't see that happening here. Not yet, anyway. Sorry to butt in, but I wanted to register so I could reply to this (long time listener, first time caller). I was at HW's media day and one of the VPs said he asked B&M about a launched flyer, but B&M said they wouldn't do it because the trains are simply too heavy.

jsus
^^ And if you had asked B&M if they would build a giga coaster when Cedar Fair was accepting bids for the Millennium Force project, they would've similarly said they couldn't do it. Now, they've built Leviathan and Fury 325. All it takes is time and R&D costs to come up with a suitable system. Without being an expert in the materials in a B&M train, I'm confident they could do so if a customer really wanted it.

APE
MF would have been one boring ride with B&M at the helm.
NoChickens
Most claim it's boring now. Personally, I'd love it in my back yard.
TheCandyManCan
Watch the interview, airtime and forces aren't the primary focus of Gigas...to critique then as such is kind of stupid. That'd be like saying Hondas suck because the Accord doesn't come with the Honda F1 engine...its not built to do that Also, you do know in the early 90s-00s that just about most coasters were built and consulted by Stengel right?
APE
I'm not concerned with what the focus was or is, I'm concerned with enjoying the ride. I can appreciate different coasters for different reasons. I'll probably enjoy Fury for the speed but i tend to enjoy a more intense coaster.
NoChickens
You will enjoy the speed, it is a wonderful drop. But, it's not I-305 intense, you'll love it for what it is. It's fun, fast, and long. Knowing you, you'll say I-305 is better, and I'd agree.
APE
I really find it hard to believe anything could top that ride. I won't let it stop me from riding as many other things as i can though! Oddly enough i'm one of the few that enjoy Gatekeeper. I look forward to the next Cedar Point addition.
NoChickens
Exactly why I try and not rank coasters when people ask, "try" . I love Gatekeeper as well. Every coaster is what it is, and every coaster is better than my couch.
APE
I rank my top 4-5 but that's generally it.
TheCandyManCan
Couches are pretty comfortable.. I rank coasters to an extent, but I'll ride them all and give them a go. I have a few favorites and that's it. There's only a handful of coasters I'll not ride, like Hurler at KD. My back still aches thinking about it
The Interpreter
I'm a huge B&M fan. Yet, my favorite coaster is an INTAMIN (Maverick). My favorite wood a Dennis McNulty CCI (Rampage), my coaster that won't let me not mention it is an INTAMIN: Volcano: The Blast Coaster, and my wood and steel candidates for most overrated are The Gravity Group--Voyage and INTAMIN--Millennium Force. And my couch is far better than The Roller Coaster at New York New York Casino, I-305, Mean Streak....
