rlentless
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/orbitzcom/the-7-amusement-park-wond_b_7798336.html"The Beast" made this list . . . I thought it was interesting that on the "The Great Scenic Railway" there is a brake operator working in the middle car. Hope that operator had a good night sleep.
WindingSon
Hmmm. They say in the article that Goliath is the longest wooden roller coaster. And then they go on to say The Beast is. They also claim Formula Rossa goes 250 mph.

WindingSon
So it's a really elaborate go-kart track. I guess I'd have expected more if it was going to be on such a list.
upstop
.....and why number two on the list of top ten? There are dozens of these go cart attractions spread across the U.S. that are like that one.
bkroz
Not to brag, but I prefer these countdowns: Seven Natural Wonders Seven Technological Wonders Seven Ancient Wonders
Steph88
You always post such interesting reads! I loved the Natural Wonders one. Holy moly! So many places I wanna go now!
happyslap
Why am I not surprised that Disney attractions took the top 5 spots on the Natural Wonders list?
bkroz
Few others have the budget to bother replicating natural landforms. Even fewer do it well.

jsus
That banner was found on the site of a New for 2015 ride for which, or so it seemed, park fans spent a *century on* speculations.

KI Guy
SOB was an amusement park wonder of the world for sure. Not because of the ride, the actual ride was pretty bad, but the sight of it. The tallest wooden coaster hill in the world did a turnaround before dropping! It had the rose bowl, that incredibly loud lift, and that massive loop. Sonny had presence if nothing else.
The Interpreter
And it caused many to wonder if their Paramount Parks career would have lasted longer had they not been involved with the ride.
tuxedoman52
I'm wondering if they meant 250 kilometers per hour. I don't know if that would even be close to the conversion of 149 mph.
jsus
250 kph ~= 155.34 mph Formula Rossa is said to actually do 149.1 mph per RCDB. That's 239.95 kph, or essentially 240 kph.
jsus
Fury 325? Yep. That joke isn't mine, though. Credit goes to Mike Fehnel in his Fury 325 announcement speech.
XGatorHead 8904
Sure, The Great Scenic Railway is the oldest continuously operating coaster in the world, but even more impressive to me is the oldest coaster in the world (even if it was shut down for years), Leap the Dips at Lakemont Park, which beats TGSR by 10 years in age. Even though it's tame compared to most coasters, I'm extremely excited to finally ride this piece of history tomorrow!
The Interpreter
It's one of my very favorite coasters!
XGatorHead 8904
^It's now one of mine too! What a great piece of history. We rode it twice, the Gatorettes in the front and me in the back each time. While Mrs. Gator & GatorGirl were amazed at the smoothness, I was amazed at the airtime I got (and the hard slams back into the seat) that they didn't get. The ride op warned me before our first ride that I might want to prepare and stand up a little before the dips. After about the 2nd or 3rd dip and the very hard slam back to the seat, I heeded his advice. Great ride! Our original plan was to go to both Lakemont & DelGrosso's that day, but once we got to Lakemont we decided that we could definitely spend all day there and take our time to enjoy what they had to offer. We even stopped by the gift shop and bought matching Leap the Dips shirts and a book on the history of Lakemont Park (to add to our collection of other park history books, on Idora Park & Coney Island). We'll visit DelGrosso's next year, and plan on going to Lakemont at the end of that day to ride Leap the Dips and Skyliner again!
