The elevator is working again even though the National Park Service says it does not know what caused yesterday's outage.

They way this is going, the monuments going to be closed 72 times by the end of the year!

When it's not malfunctioning, it closes every night. :)

I enjoy this thread just for the fact that most of the updates have been about the elevator being broken!

Makes me smile! Thanks Terp!

I didn't know there was anything out of service in DC more than Congress.

I guess we learn something every day!

According to the New York Times, this time the problem was a bearing failure: http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2016/07/29/us/politics/ap-us-washington-monument.html

And they're already looking to modernize it to fix the issues. Hopefully that will include a thorough review of all maintenance/repair procedures to ensure that's all being done properly.

If only TTD had the same uptime as the Washington Monumnet. Maybe adding another 100 feet would help.

WTOP:

A tripped circuit breaker.

Perhaps the heat.

NPS says the Monument will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.

Yea there's gonna be a lot of post in here if you announce every time it's down. Thankfully there's soooo much more to do there. I use to live in DC and I'm still not sure I've done everything there is to do there. I Heart DC!
