MarketingExpress
A little off subject...but I remember a couple of years ago while waiting in line for Vortex. A little boy was (just barely) too short to ride...he started crying when the ride op told him. His dad tried to console him. The kid was not "bratty"...he was just dissapointed he couldn't ride. It was a sad sight...but what made it bad was a lot of the crowd started chanting "let him ride...let him ride"...then booing when the kid was walking away. I felt so bad for the ride op. You could tell he was uncomfortable. It was the only time I saw that kind of mob mentality...but i'm guessing it happens more than I know...unfortunatly. Actually this happens more often than you might think. Especially on the 44'' height required rides. Our associates constantly get hassled for doing their job and looking out for the safety of each and every guest no matter what the age. Yea I dont understand why the crowd would be so hostile for trying to keep the little tykes safe. Yea sure they may want to ride really bad but I remember when I had to wait in order to get my ride. FOF/Z 4-ever
I work on the Flight of Fear for over 3 years and the hardlest thing i ever had to do was tell a kid that he was to short to ride (btw FOF height restriction is 54"). The kids are normally ok with it or even dont want to ride at all. Its the parents that you have to deal with because they get in your face and just go off on you and you cant do anything but take it. ocassionally, you get to call security if they go to far with it. But besides that, its the best job at there and i love it and would never want to be anywhere else. However, dont expect to be "given" things, such as getting trainned to drive a ride right away. You need to work for it and do what your Sups ask you to do.

TRTR Guy
Generally, coasters are extremely easy. The hardest part about them is knowing exactly what you and everyone else should be doing in the event of a *fill in emergency here*. If you work FOF, the two hardest parts are remembering where all the fire extinguishers are (do you still remember UncleHenry) Lets see if i can remember the locations of the extinguishers (4-5-3) (4 in the launch tunnel, 5 in the drum. 3 in the return tunnel or something like that), drive box, dual launch, air compressor, PLC room, unload, between doors 15 and 16, between doors 3 and 4, SW corner of hanger, inside door 5, photo booth, near the basketball hoop. SOB_TOM
Well I enjoy working a major flat over a coaster. I had the experience of two coasters (SOB/Gun) and TRTR, and TRTR was much better.

Steve-O-H-I-O
Can you pick more than one ride to be on, or are you stuck with on ride. When would be the best time to apply. I don't see a date on there website, of when to apply? Generally, rides are paired with another ride close by to it. For example, Son of Beast is paired with Top Gun, Face/Off is paired with Congo falls, Dodgems was paired with Antique Cars when it was still there...you get the idea. I have no idea what Vortex is paired up with. As for applying, just go to a job fair in February. You generally get hired on the spot. hauntguy
So are you more likely to get hired if you show-up like sometime this week or go on the open interview day at the park on the 29th? Just wondering. -Hauntguy
TopThrill
I would say show up as soon as you can. The inertview to me wasn't really that hard. Just anser there Q's clearly and the best you can. When I was there the waiting room was packed with people. But over half of them did not dress up for there inertview. You do have to take a math test. Its just basic stuff, I think I got like a 12 out of 15. You have to get 10 out of 15 to pass.

dxrunner
The hardest part of working in rides is not operating the ride itself it's dealing with guest issues and park issues. ex. Line jumping, smoking, fights, spitting, behavior, injuries, and much more. It's all good though. WERD

Fo-Shame
I know this topic is about being a rides associate, but some info if anyone wants to be in food, or maybe other money locations. New this year in the hiring process for food service will be a math test. Obviously, since math is involved in the day to day job functions, it only makes sense (and we've been harassing HR about it for years) to ensure that your employees can do math in their heads in a short period of time. Seeing as how that is now being added to the employement process, I do not know if anything else is being added the process for all departments or other specific stuff for say rides or anything else. TopThrill
The one inertviewer asked Q's about like, why did I pick PKI for a summer job, Can I get along with other people, if someone didn't get along with me what would I do to get along with that person. What's our Fav. ride a pki. Stuff like that. there is 2 steps to getting fully hired. While first dress up right, slaks, short, tie, dress shoes. If you applyed online go into the emplyment office a ask the person at the desk that you applyed online. They'll give you a red paper( I think thats the color) it the grooming staters and other stuff that you have to agree to, then sign. After that when you turn it in you'll get a folder with the paper work in it. After you filled in all the paper work, and turn it in, they'll call you back for your inertview. After you pass the inertveiw you'll take the math test. You go back to the waiting room, someone will call you back. By this time if you passed the math test they say congradulations to you are now hired. Then they'll ask you Q's about your self. After that you go to the prosseing line and fill out more paper work. Those papers are for billling things, tax's, IRS. You do need to bring some ID(if your over 18) and your SS card. I still have to bring back the billing papers, the next day after that I open a bank accunt. Thats all I can think of. Hope it helps you out! DeliriumDreamer
I wore khakis and a nice looking sweater. Then again, I also spent 4 hrs playing DDR waiting for my interviews. So, I was kind of sweaty by the time I started with my interviews. That, and I had lost my voice, so that didn't make things easier. Note: funny how these things happen when you look back at them. The day I signed up with pki, I had lost my voice. The day the season ended and I left, I had lost my voice again.
