dxrunner
I knew this would happen. People still smoke where they want, and your right most employees dont say anything to them. But i have been sitting in a designated smoking area or 2 this season and i will ask a fellow smoker how they feel about and the answer i have got the most is " I dont understand how they can ban smoking in open air. On top off that they make us all huddle together in these little areas like we are ON DISPLAY or something for the pleasure of the public." That was from an 83 Year old man that was beyond confused and thourghly ****ed off at PKI for making a smoking ban. That is all. Oh, and since most of you guys on this forum were all for the smoking ban, how bout next time when your in the park you walk up to a group of 2 or more people smoking and try and tell them that they arent aloud to smoke in open air, that they have to go to a marked off area of the park. FOF/Z 4-ever
I hate smoking and am against it, but in this case, you make a good point. I can see them telling someone to stop smoking in a building or que line, but just in the park in general? Thats a little insane. It is open air and as long as they are not blowing it into my face, I dont have a problem with it. What I do have a problem is with the smokers who dont care and will be up against you blowing smoke into your face or just around you and when you asked them to either do it off the side or put it out, they get in your face and go off on you b/c they are making you cough. Im not saying all smokers are like this, in fact, i have many friends who do smoke and they are considerate, but its the ones who are not considerate and who dont give a darn about anything or anyone. Well, I dont care for it either and you can ask all my friends who do smoke, Im always on their case about stopping. But I guess I'm used to it b/c its everywhere that I doesnt bother me unless you blowing it in my face.
moore
I HATE IT when people smoke b/c then you generally get that "cig smoke" smell on you....it makes me gag. It really annoys me when people smoke in the lines anyway. I think I put this in my TR but I'll say it again anyway, this chick was smokeing and blowing smoke right in our faces and the ride op played that recording that tells you not to smoke in lines. Well, she and other people kept on smoking. From my visit about a month ago, not vary many people are following teh ban or are unaware of it b/c we saw many people just smoking in the pathways and stuff. Vortex
Why are the employees not confronting the smoking people? I am sure some do, but that does not explain why the others are not? People that pay to get in the park should not have to tell some one that they can not smoke in a no smoking area.
FOF/Z 4-ever
prob b/c they are afraid that the guest will go off on them and that makes the employees not wanting to confront the guests.
Robert_Waring
prob b/c they are afraid that the guest will go off on them and that makes the employees not wanting to confront the guests. That's exactly what I think.. Mr Teen KI Worker eyes Lumpy man with a Mullet and Molly Hatchet T-Shirt smoking in a non-smoking area. Mr. Teen wonders if Mr. Mullet has consumed four or five beers. He could prove to be a tough case when attempting to douse his cancer stick. Better leave that one alone.. Sometimes it's just safer to leave people alone, especially if they've been drinking. With the summer heat on it's way, intoxication, and an overall tired feeling from walking all over the park, the last thing people want to hear is someone telling them they can't smoke in a certain area. They're going to ignore it, or possibly get confrontational. Heck, I had three little black girls yelling at us last Saturday in the White Water Canyon line because we told them line jumping wasn't a sport and to go back to the end of the line. They BLEW UP! I though we were gonna throw down with some twelve year old girls. Luckily, for them, they went to the back of the line once others near us in line started speaking up. BoddaH1994
You know, if you see someone smoking in a non-smoking area, you can just always politely tell them about the 19 designated smoking areas. Most of the time, people disobey the rules because they simply aren't aware of them. Remember that this is a new thing to the park this season. If someone has something to say about it, remind them that you don't make the rules, you just enforce them, if it goes beyond that point, then call security and have them escorted out. Think you can handle that?
Vortex
Yes but people who pay to get in should not have to do all the work. I hope some one at PKI reads this. Edited June 8, 2005 by Vortex
Firefall Pkd
I was at Pkd today and noticed they had added some very nice benches to the smoking sections. As of today more people were using the smoking sections but not everyone, then again there was a very light crowd today.

dxrunner
The park needs to put something at the freakin ENTRANCE OF THE PARK. Every time i tell a guest about it, they say they know you can't smoke in lines for rides but why not in the park, theres no sign or anything telling anyone of the new rule. Yea sure its in the park maps but not very many people use those things, since most the guests we get on a regular basis know were everything is because they are season pass holders. Oh just a side note, I'm still against this whole thing and i think its bull crap

FOF/Z 4-ever
still, its the fact that some employees may feel intemadated (spelling) by going up to some one and tell them they cant smoke there. Its asking for trouble.
SOB_TOM
All the park rules and regulations are posted on a sign at the entrance of the park right before the metal detectors.

keithandmissy
Disney and other parks have no trouble at all enforcing the rule. Employees (cast members) are trained on how to approach people and ask them to smoke in the designated areas only.
Gordon Bombay
Still though, I cant believe how uncouteous so many smokers are. There are still people who smoke in line. Its not like you need the cigarette to stay alive. Its not like food or water where its powering your organs, in fact its killing you. Smoking is useless honestly.
keithandmissy
It is useless, and I was happy when PKI set up the designated smoking areas. I was, however, prepared for mediocre enforcement of the rule. I think the main difference is Disney and Universal are open year round and have more permanent employees who can develop in their careers and can receive continual training. PKI, on the other hand, is seasonal and employees receive considerably less training and are typically younger. So I can immediately see why the rule wouldn't get enforced. I say, stop the people smoking in line first (since that rule has been in place), then work on stopping them in the rest of the park. Gordon Bombay
^Mediocre job of enforcing it? How owuld you know, do you work for the park? SOmetimes its hard when people refuse or like to start trouble about it, PKI does the best job they can with the resources they have.
