brenthodge
Remember when the Viking Fury actually had detail? Wonder why the last repaint just stopped at shiny poop brown? Then they reattached the figure head as it had been so it almost looks worse with its aging against the shiny, one color ship. There are so many details that could’ve been easily enhanced (and maybe even added back on the mast, sail and lantern) but at least sone dry brushing of gold or a light brown would’ve done wonders. Oh well… guess that Viking ship has sailed!
BeeastFarmer
Maybe because they knew that Adventure Port was on the horizon and they didn't want to distract from that? I am just speculating, but I was listening to a Coaster101 Podcast with a construction tour of the new area of Carowinds and the tour guide said that the redevelopment of Aernautica Landing was supposed to be a 2021 project. Maybe Adventure Port was the same and after it got shelved, they decided to spruce up the Viking Fury b/c it was a need but they wanted to let AP shine when it does open.
CoastersRZ
Repainting a ride like Viking Fury comes from a maintenance budget. They probably needed to repaint the boat, and wanted it done as cost effective as possible. Yes, those details are nice, and would have been great had they been kept and repainted, but that would have cost money. Either money they didn`t want to spend, or would have come at the cost of some other project not getting funding/not happening. Be glad that they painted the ride. New rides like the ones coming with Adventure Port come from the capital budget, which is separate from the maintenance budget. Keep in mind that I don`t think KI originally intended to remove Sling Shot last year. There were reportedly a picture/post from the company that was going to be repainting the cage from Slingshot, about this time last year. Then the ride never opened last season. Not sure if that post with the cage was legitimate or not. Was is the plan all along to remove Sling Shot and add Adventure Port for this season? We may never know. I am thoroughly looking forward to Adventure Port and the two new rides within it. I think they are the perfect addition to KI. Hopefully in the coming years, we can get some more additions like this.

I fell like Adventure Port was a last minute addition. SlingShot definitely was not supposed to be removed this past season as it had been repainted prior to the start of the 2022 season.
KIghostguy
I think Viking Fury was definitely showing its age paint-wise before they repainted it in 2020, but the "dunked in chocolate" look is definitely an odd choice. The support color is nice, though. Personally, I'm more disappointed that when the time came to buy new awnings for the operator booths, they stuck with the boring solid blue color instead of going back to the original striped ones.

Sorry, I think that’s a poor justification for cheaping out on a refurbishment. I agree with what another poster said that I honestly don’t think Adventure Port was on the radar when the boat was painted. I feel like that was a bit of a “oh crap we need an attendance driver that is more permanent than ‘festival or entertainment’ but doesn’t eat into our long term cap ex for Vortex and other long term projects”. That’s the perfect description LOL. They are missing a tie-in at SweetSpot not selling “chocolate Viking furies”. It’s just sad when you see what the paint dept CAN do (carousel organ). Even if they outsourced the main body repaint and did the detail “in house” over time it would’ve been nice.
