Record Breakers

Featured Replies

So it seems in the past 10 years the records for tallest and fastest coaster get broken quite often. Lately its really been heating up...In late 1999/ early 2000 Millenium Force breaks the records and barely a year after it opens, Nagashima Spa land breaks it, what happens next? Cedar Point retaliates with Top Thrill Dragster shattering all the previous speed and heighth records. TTD opens up in 2003. Now in 2005, almost two years after the opening of TTD, Kingda Ka at Six Flags great adventure has gained a slight edge over Cedar Point. They have succeded in building the same type of coaster just about 10 feet higher and 10 miles per hour faster. My question to you guys is: What happens next? The Intamin strata coasters have shattered records and their height and speeds cant be matched by any other type of coaster. Do you think the records will be broken again soon? And if so by what type of caoster and by what park?

My thoughts: I dont see the record being broken for a long time unless some other park builds an Intamin strata coaster like KK and TTD just a little bit higher......sigh......that owuld be boring! I think within 10 - 20 years we are going to see so many advancements in coaster technology and the race will heat up again, but for now i think the race is going to take a break, unless CP raises TTD about 30 more feet and increases the speed a bit more, to steal the record back from Six Flags! I think they should do it jsut to P**S SF off.

Well first off, KK is 36 feet taller than TTD. hmmm.

This is exactly what was being said after MF opened, then it was beat, then that was beat, then that was beat. In the end it will never stop, someone will always be out there pushing higher, longer and faster.

MF record was broken only a few short days after they topped it off with Steel Dragon 2000 but you dont see Steel Dragon ever open do you. SD2000 has been SBNO for about 2 years now.

Yes I think they will go higher but soon people wont care about how high it goes cause it wont matter. If the praks had the money they could be at 1000 feet right now if they wanted to. Soon height and speed will lose thier thrill and they will have to go to more innovate things like X and fliers.

They will eventually break it. It will probably be Cedar Point too. Remember PKI shattered wooden coaster records with The Beast and SOB.

And they still haven't been broken.

Does anyone know about what happened to Steel Dragon 2000?

It's still down. Stupid Japanese refuse to reopen it because of the problem it had.

It will reach a point when parks simply can`t afford to go higher and faster. They could go higher, but it would cost more money than the ride would bring in and thus not be economically feasible to the park.

You forgot - between Steel Dragon and Top Thrill Dragster came Superman: Ultimate Escape or whatever it is called. It is 415 feet tall. Its that ride at SFMM where you LSM launch out and up in the air - stop - and fall backwards again.

I would like to see some non-launched strata coasters - something using a lift like Millie. It appears that Intamin is the only company willing to break the 300 foot barrier - so whatever gets built will probably be an Intamin.

What Problem did it have?

The wheels broke off and injured several people. It was in 2003.

Superman: The Escape at SFMM opened back in 1997, so Millennium Force or Steel Dragon 2000 were never the tallest roller coasters... they were however the tallest continuous circuit roller coasters when they were built, untill Top Thrill Dragster.

Superman: The Escape was the tallest roller coaster in the world from 1997 until 2002.(Or whenever TTD was topped off)

First off, the Japanese are not stupid. They are very superstitious and that is why it remains closed.

No,it only injured one or two people, not several. Get your facts straight. This is how stupid rumors get started.

Man you are one bitter person. Last I checked a couple could be several. Why do these so called experts jump on people and flame them. How’s that for a fact?

No, a couple is two, several is more. In fact, only one person was injured. Go back to school familyman.

It's not bitterness, retard. There's no point in calling Japanese people stupid when it's not necessary or true. They are very strict when it comes to safety and they are very superstitious as well. Here's a link to the discussion on coasterbuzz. Steel Dragon 2000

I was referring to you being rude to another member on here. I don’t support anyone calling Japanese people stupid either. But does that call for you getting on here and bashing someone? I think you need to learn how to be civil when posting on here.

Little harsh there?

I think the next generation of coasters will be more like IJST and Mummy where its not so much about the height, speed, and G's but more about the excitement and themeing of the ride.
