Since 2020 we've noticed more families with younger children at Dent despite its reputation as a more "intense" haunt than what Kings Island might offer.

I interpret this as KI can turn the intensity back up LOL

I don't think KI's "Family friendly" approach to Haunt was by design. I think they put a lot less resources into it and it got less intense and they retroactively said that they were trying to make it family-friendly. This is much like how they'll cheap out on new attractions and send the shills out to cover for them saying that they're a "family park."

If they the Phantom Theater Opening Nightmare ends up being a disappointment they'll send them out to make this excuse for them (although millions rode the OG PT and no one saw it as not family-friendly).

Of course, being able to park in VIP parking doesn't just magically appear for the shills. They gotta earn it.

I'm hopeful that parents will see the added expense for mazes and choose to spend that money elsewhere, instead of paying an additional $20+ for their kids to go through the haunts each night they go. It shouldn't be too hard/unreasonable to prohibit strollers at the event as part of a bag policy update.

Maybe these new additions will be intense enough to reinvigorate the event and show that guests want a better Haunt at KI.
