Help me settle a bet

Someone help me settle this bet. Im saying that when you rode the train over in Rivertown that the train would stop every so often and there would be mock battles between Cowboys and Indians and at that "town" there used to be people going in and out of the store. I say that is was as Kings Island and my brother is saying that it was Six Flags in Texas. who is right? Anyone? anyone???

You are absolutly correct it was at KI. This happened until I think about 1978 or 1979. I can remeber that like it was yesterday and the actors used to come up to the train cars and take donations to make it look like they were robbing the train.

Yes they did have mock battles at the fort between troops and indians and the train being robbed , they even had a shotgun wedding, My wifes step brother worked at the train robbery. and a bever nawing a tree that would almost fall across the tracks. those were the days sonnie.

yup it lasted into the 90s cause my mom said when ever she took me on the train and the cowboys and the indians started to fight i would cry. Hey i got another question.... why did they stop it?

The Bear was left out so if you ride the train in the fall you can see it behind a tree in the woods next to the road. The actors left in 1979 but the theme was still up in the 90s just with out actors. so PKI Punk your kinda right

I think the actors quit after the 1979 season but my brother seems to think it was after the 1980 season. Not sure.

I never said the whole thing quit only the actors. I believe the animation continued till around 1991 or when KI was actually sold.

To my best recollection, the animation (as in the recordings of the shots being fired) stopped with the addition of Water Works.

I missed the bear, I think the acting stop when Linder sold the park.

I can remember is that also when they stop running two trains, sometimes the one train would have to stop so the other would pass.

I wish they would still do that with the actors and the fights, but I bet it would be labeled "Pollitically Incorrect" (*cough* *couhg* bull crap *cough* *cough*). From what I've noticed while riding the train is that there are 2 sets of cars, a red and a green and 3 engines, a red one, green one, and a blue one.

Kings Island has never had a red train. Just the green and blue trains with different names. You might be thinking of other Paramount Parks PGA had a red train and so did PC and PKD.

As of last week, the green train was being prepped for use. Blue engine was pulling two red cars and one green one

Yup. Decided to keep track this year, total number up and total number down, and total milage this ride supervisor will do over the course of the season. Remember, Tower has only really been open 2 weekends anyway. Since the 21st of May.

Gulliversrubadub. I was born in 79, however, I have early memories of being on the train when it stopped and cowboys on horses "robbed" the train. I.E. rode by and held out their hats for tips. This was probably early 80's.... 82 or 83. I remember the animals in the woods, the indians, the shotgun wedding scene, the stage coach, the figures in the town, etc., and the recorded narration all the way up until about 1990.

I don't think the train robberies lasted into 82 or 83. I could be wrong but the last time I remember it was around 79 or 80. I go to KI every year and have since I was 2 years old. I even worked there. I will have to go through my pictures and see what I can find.

I think that they should start doing the scenes with the cowboys and indians. I mean PKI wants a hollywood makeover in the park, this would be an great addition!!!

The Kings Island and Miami Valley Railroad used a combination of live actors and animatronic props for years.

The train would stop and be "held up" by two men dressed as train robbers. There was a shoot out, and a train conductor usually ended up scaring off the robbers by shooting his own gun at them.

Throughout the course, there were animatronic animals (such as the growling bear... which is still there if you look hard enough... horses etc) animatronic Indians and Soldiers.

The small western village that still exists had many effects, such as a lady's legs dangling out of the top of the saloon.... an old man rocking in a rocking chair etc et etc. Heck the Jail was even on fire if I recall.

There were lots of loud bangs and pops. Specifically in the fort area that still exists where Indians were fighting with soldiers guarding the fort.

As you ride today, notice all of the fake "tree stumps" scattered around the course. These actually were later added to cover up the electrical outlets in which the characters were attached. When the animatronics were removed, the power sources were simply covered up with these facades.

The live actors left the ride long before the animatronics did. Over time, the animatronics became worse for the wear, and many stopped working. They were not replaced when they went kaput and eventually the ride was a shell of it's former self.

KI scrapped the animatronics when the train became a transit to and from the waterpark.

Also if you look hard enough you will see the beaver that used to knaw the tree in half on the right as you come out of the train station. I will have to look through my pictures and see what I have of the old train ride. I know I have pics of the wedding and the fight at the fort. I am sure I have pictures of all the animatronics that were there.
