The Beastie, then called Scooby Doo, was also open.

No The Beastie was not open during the winterfest. Who would what to ride a coaster in the snow?

You're asking the wrong crowd of people that question. biggrin.gif

Hi, my name is lance and I work at PKI and I have heard rumors about winterfest coming back, I know that right now these are RUMORS!!!!. We have not heard anything about winterfest accept that they want us to work this winter.

Ok Lance, you are new so let me step ya through how the park thinks about employees posting what we know:

If you know anything, DONT POST. The last comment is what I was referring to. If you do work at the park, you signed a confidentiality statement saying that the park has to release any information, and if you know something, you have to keep your mouth shut. Im not trying to repremand you, just save you the trouble of finding another job. Trust me, the park frowns heavily on those who dont hold their fingers.

I know it would be hard to run most of the rides. But if Dollywood can keep most of their rides open during close to freezing tempatures why can't PKI do it for Winterfest? (I'm not concerning the staff now mind you). During they're late season days (through Dec), Dollywood (what little they do have) run most of they're rides as long has the temp is above 32 degree F.

Which it's pretty close to here in December in the evening. So you'd have rides going up and down all month, and people getting upset about it. Better to just schedule the ones you are absolutely sure can operate regardless of the temperature.

The thing that I don`t fully understand, which probably has to do with winter rehab, is why they are not opening up TR:TR since it is between the White Christmas Express and Swan Lake. It is not like that ride is ooutside, and they could dial down the water geysers that already barely get anyone wet. It might have to do with the fact that the theme of the ride wouldn`t fit in with the holiday themes of the rest of the attractions.

The word on the street is that Tomb Raider will be getting a little more TLC than usual this offseason, so that might have something to do with it. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if more rides are open than what they are telling us about. They have only announced 4, but that doesn't mean that more could happen, maybe they're just not sure yet and didn't want to make a big deal about it.

In the iwnterfest vid Maureen and Jeff build it up like its going to be the perfect story book event ever! I just hope it lives up to all the hype they promise. With all due respect to those two great people and the park, things at Kings Island tend to get hyped up a little bit and made out to be what they really arent. I remember the first year of fearfest was terrible but now its great. Lets just hope things go great and Winterfest is a hit!

Very true, but at the same time, a LOT of people whom have heard about Winterfest now have been talking about it like it was the greatest thing ever. I'm talking about people who haven't been to PKI in years... the park is claiming that it's going to be bigger and better than ever, but we'll see.

Hopefully it won't suffer the same fate as Fearfest in which it was great at first, then in 2003 it wasn't much better than a joke, only to be rebounded better than ever in 2004... It seems as though the trend has been to build something up to greatness, then cut the budget and hope that it can sail on its former popularity, and when it doesn't pour money into it the next year. I am confident that this was a lesson learned.

Personally, I am thrilled about Winterfest. In the past year or two, the park has seemed to outdo itself again and again. Those of you who were at IJ's media day, or the Wintefest announcement can probably see what I am talking about. It comes down to the park's ability to communicate this level of "magic" per se to the general public, which is a field that PKI has been getting more and more strong in daily.

Well, maybe Paramount is starting to get it's act together with bringing back Winterfest. I'm sure that they're kicking themselves for selling and giving away all the old Winterfest Props. Anyone that works there, if you have the opportunity to work set up prior to dry run do it! It's actually a blast doing the decorating and moving things around.

I'm not sure how much they sold and how much they kept, but they had a ton of stuff packed away behind the GR office last year.
