King Cobra Track Gone?

Featured Replies

As soon as I logged into the net tonight, I got a million billion IMs saying that the KC track is in fact gone. Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone have any further information?

Anyone speculate as to where theyve gone? My guess is it was sold as scrap metal or that theyre tearing down The Racers and rebuilding King Cobra!! ohmy.gif *note sarcasm*

The track was on sale as scrap wasnt it or was it for sale as a coaster that another park could possibly buy and rebuild it?

On June second as I was exiiting the station of sob I notices a semi truck with a container on the back zoomed by on that road down below sob and that goes on top of the que line for sob and top gun. I was sorta curious but I didn't think much about this but maybe some of the track was in that truck ? wink.gif ? I also noticed while I was riding sob that the land back there was half way flatened and it looked like it was just recently done, its the land back by the old trams and almost directly behind sob. any thoughts or reasons behind this?

Who would be rehabbing it since Togo is closed? Also why would it need to be refribushed did another park buy it?

I do think its possible for S&S or Vekoma to put their hardwear on the track. And you never know, but PKI could put it back in. I'm a KC fan. At Kings Island today I heard people talking about it saying that they loved it.

I believe that land is going to be the location of the new campground since the new hotel is taking the place of the current campground (which is closed). Thats what it said in the news paper

they are probably taking track to PKD or Carowinds. One of those parks has an identical coaster named Shockwave that they could use the track to repair and add several years of life to.

Shockwave at PKD is a little different than King Cobra was, with more track after the loop (2231' length altogether) and therefor a longer ride. They both however level out at speed (50 mph for both.) For some reason I can't see the Cobra scrap track going there, since SW has been operating since 1986 I would think it would get more updated track. I'm clueless as to what is going to happen to the KC track as of now, it's a true mystery.

Does anybody here want King Cobra to be reinstalled?

I never got the chance to ride it. I wish I did.

I had the oportunity of riding King Kobra for the last time in the fall of 2000. I really enjoyed the King Kobra. Out of the three TOGO models (King Kobra, Sky Rider, and Shockwave) I liked King Kobra Better. Although Sky Rider is identical to the King Kobra. I too wish they would bring it back, you never know, they just might.

I don't think they would remove a ride just to pay millions to reinstall it. Same goes for the antique cars. For a park to buy it and install it would cost as much as a new wood coaster so I don't think you will see that.

I look forward to getting new rides not old ones back.

I never got to ride it eithier. I wasn't tall enough in 1999 to ride it and by May 2002 when I went it was completely dismantled.

King Cobra wasn't a bad ride...especially when standing up and looping was a novel concept. The first drop was incredible and the loop was fun. But those features are done better on Cedar Point's Mantis, although that ride can be a little painful (especially for men!)

However, King Cobra had an awesome helix near the end and some fun little bunny hops that gave great air time. I don't know if it was ever worth the long wait it often had, but it definitely was a fun coaster and it is definitely missed!

As for reinstalling it, though, I think you'd be disappointed. I remember that it seemed always be down for at least while when I was there. Also, the thrill on The Mantis is much better with the four loops and a higher drop. Still, I'd love for PKI to get another standing looper.

You got that right. wacko.gif

I was in the tower on Memorial day and it was still there, but a lot can happen in a week!

What I understand is. The only reason the two other Togo Stand-ups are still in operation is because they were built from American steel. I heard King Cobra was bulit from steel from Japan. Also American steel is stronger then the steel from Japan. I do know that King Cobra was the protype, and it was bulit twice. Once in Japen and then again at PKI. I'm not sure if the other 2 have as many problems with them or not, but I know King Cobra had a lot of down time the last few years of operation. It went down almost on a daily basics.

I also noticed while I was riding sob that the land back there was half way flatened and it looked like it was just recently done, its the land back by the old trams and almost directly behind sob. any thoughts or reasons behind this?

Last time the land was flatened back their Flight of Fear was being built. Also the King Cobra open in Asia frist but no one would ride so it came to PKI.

^Where do you get the information from? Im not doubting you, I jsut wanna know where you got that from, why would no one ride it?

What he saying is untrue. The Cobra was bulit first in Japan, the people at PKI flew over to Japan to see it. Then it was transported to PKI and rebulit.

Maybe they are going to Put King Cobra behind SOB. I doubt it.

The track has been sitting out in a field and not taken care of, I dont think its going to be rebuilt.

It would take a ot of money to rebuild repaint and refurnish it.

If you think about it, it would be cheaper to rehab King Cobra then to go out and buy a B&M stand up.

I took this picture: (I gave Ryan the use of it so I am asuming I am allowed to post it, correct me if I am wrong)

^How did you take that picture/where did you take it from?

King Cobra isnt going to be rebuilt, had they wanted to keep it they wouldve kept it. Its not cost efficent to re-build the old thing.
