Captain Nemo
In 2006, thrill seekers at the World’s largest regional theme park will challenge El Toro, an enormous, new wooden roller coaster under construction at Six Flags Great Adventure. The thrill ride, which incorporates the most daring features of the world’s best wooden roller coasters combined with the smooth speed of a steel coaster, will be the star of a vibrant, newly-themed area of the park, Plaza del Carnaval. Just around the corner, families with young children will explore exciting, pint-sized adventures in the all-new Bugs Bunny National Park kids’ area, featuring new rides and attractions designed just for them. Both new areas, including monstrous El Toro, are set to open next season. “Classic design meets state-of-the-art thrills with our spectacular, new wooden roller coaster,†said Rick McCurley, the park’s vice president and general manager. “As part of our multi-year expansion to a family destination, this massive coaster adventure will anchor a colorful, newly-themed area evoking the lively energy of Spanish-speaking regions of the world.†El Toro’s unique design, inspired by the agility and strength of the brave Matadors, features a hybrid design including a classic “out and back†track with four fast-charging drops, multiple highly-banked turns and a beastly “twister†finale. El Toro will also deliver nine “airtime†opportunities, giving riders the highly-sought thrill ride sensation of weightlessness. At 181 feet tall, reaching 70 mph, El Toro will rank among the tallest and fastest wooden roller coasters in the world. Its 4,400 feet of mountainous track includes records for second tallest, fastest and longest drop of all wooden coasters in America and features the world’s steepest drop on a wooden roller coaster, 76 white-knuckled degrees. The twisted end looks cool! www.sixflags.com
thejoker8388
Yep, I just saw that, looks fun and in most years I'd say it would probably win wooden coaster of the year, but in all honesty comparing that to Voyage, El Toro looks like nothing. Still a great looking coaster though and that turn around looks really cool, especially for an out and back. Well, we entered 2005 thinking PKI may lose all of its big three wooden records of length, speed, and height, but we leave 2005 knowing that PKI will hold on to all the records. Although, I'd much rather have the shorter El Toro or Voyage than SOB any day.

Gordon Bombay
I just love how Six Flags pumps money into the same parks over and over but lets the others rot to be sold off when they accumulate too much debt. Honestly, why is Six Flags building yet another new are to SFGA two years in a row? Who the hell gives them money?
flightoffear1996
I happy to learn that the Son of Beast record will stand but over a 70 dergree drop thats wicked.
Scooby_Doo
How is SF getting money to build this?
flightoffear1996
The owners mom is giving it to them. Any after looking at El Toro The only cool part that beats Voyage would be the first drop.
Scooby_Doo
^LoL! Six Flags Great Adventure oh oh oooohh! one of the few good SF parks!
Captain Nemo
The Voyage > El Toro I don't find the layout superb on El Toro, it's a pritty simple layout. I'm infact disapointed. Six flags made a huge hype about this that it will be a wicked record breaker when the only record for the #1 spot is having the world’s steepest drop on a wooden roller coaster. I do like the end of the ride. The Voyage well is just the opposite. 26 seconds of airtime!!! Thats thrill. 7 underground moments... cool!!! 3 HUGE drops!!! Two 90* banked turns. Voyage will own all 2006 coasters!!!
Scooby_Doo
Voyage will be overshadowed... why... your are forgetting that Disney Worlds Expedition Everest opens next year and thats one coaster Iam looking forward to.
Legend Rider
AND, That is steel... And a Vekoma, "Have you had your head bashed in today?" I do like the Idea of the heights and speeds... now Voyage drops yet again in the books... SPEED: 1st 78.4 mph Son of Beast - PKI 2nd 74.6 mph Colossos - Heide-Park 3rd 70 mph El Toro - SF-GAdv 4th 67.4 mph Voyage - HWSS 5th 66.3 mph Boss - SF-StL HEIGHT: 1st 218' Son of Beast - PKI 2nd 196' 10" Colossos - Heide-Park 3rd 181' El Toro - SF-GAdv 4th 179' 7" Rattler - SF-FTx 5th 163' Voyage - HWSS DROP: 1st 214' Son of Beast - PKI 2nd 176' El Toro - SF-GAdv 3rd 159' 1" Colossos - Heide-Park 4th 155' Mean Streak - CP 5th 154' Voyage - HWSS LENGTH: 1st 7359' Beast - PKI 2nd 7032' Son of Beast - PKI 3rd 6442' Voyage - HWSS 4th 5577' 5" White Cyclone - Nagashima Spa Land 5th 5427' Mean Streak - CP Underlying Theme... There are only 2 parks that have one coaster in All Categories... Holiday World - Voyage Paramounts Kings Island - Son of Beast That would happen to be the best I can ever say about SoB, I hate the Design, and the ride hurts, see there I go. And NO VOYAGE WILL NOT SUCK It will rock the hizzouse!! The 3 story tall Station House that is!!
RailRider
Looks cool, but I wouldnt be surprised if Six Flags manages to screw it up somehow. Six Flags has a nack of screwing up a good thing. Oh and by the way, Disney has not proven that they can make a major thrilling coaster yet. Sorry, but IOA and USF has them blown out of the water on thrilling well themed coasters. EE at AK could be just something real pretty to look at and something not real thrilling to ride. Scooby_Doo
I wouldnt judge Dinsey just yet...Everest looks like it will be kickin a$$ and takin names...same with the Voyage..I think voyage and everest will take 2006.
Gordon Bombay
No Legend Rider, I havent had my head bashed today and I agree with Scoob, you cant judge everest yet. Its not going to have OTSR's and judging by Disney's quality and upkeep Im sure the ride will be fantastically run and maintained. Holiday World does a great job but as far as parks are run, Disney blows everyone out of the water <-----the cleanest and most reliable parks in the country. thejoker8388
^Yea, reliable and safe, well besides that derailing on Big Thunder Mountain, Death on the Mars ride, Crash on the California Adventure, and so on. At big amusement/theme parks trains should not be derailing or crashing into each other... as far as I know even Six Flags can say that their trains aren't derailing and crashing. RevengeofTheSmurfs
^^^Sorry voyage will be owned by Disneys Everest! I do want to go to holiday world next year to check Gobbler Getaway voyage will be fun but wont beat everest I'm sorry.
The-Snapper
This ride looks amazing! I cant wait to ride this monster! I love the track and the airtime hills its gonna be great! Yeah death on the Mars Ride, due to the kids medical condition and the death on tower of terror, medical condition. Derailing and Crash on two disney coasters with minor injuries, compared to Six Flags having a guest launched out of one of their superman rides. What? Disney, No, Cedar? no, Oh Yeah! IT WAS HOLIDAY WORLD Point for me!! w00t and im getting tired of people saying Voyage will suck, Its not going to suck, just as those Everest fans are enthused about it, Everest will NOT Repeat NOT Be a huge thriller, so just back off!! it only goes about 50! Most #1s and Huge thrillers are much faster, yeah IJST is not a thriller... its fun but not a huge one. I still Love Voyage... ...Dont care if its not done or that I havent ridden it. Six flags doesnt get very active, so the guests get hurt... ...PKI gets active, fewer guests get hurt... ...Disney
Gordon Bombay
It still doesnt change the fact that Disney parks are very good. Legend Rider what are you gonna do if El Toro is ranked #1 over Voyage?
TheKlockster
Nobody has really thought of that before. And Expedition Everest is going to be sweet. I hope I get to ride it sometime. Don't trash talk it cause it is a Vekoma and automatically crap in the books of the gravity-group loving ACErs... Yes it is pretty clear that Voyage will take the title as best WOOD coaster. Then again it might not topple Thunderhead, or El Toro might beat it. I think Voyage will claim the title though. But as far as Steel and Wood - don't get too disappointed if Voyage doesn't claim it. CoastersRZ
Klockster, I am an ACEr, and I love Face Off. That is one awesome ride! Short, fast and intense. However, it is one of the smoothest Vekoma coaster I`ve been on. Runaway Reptar is fun too, but it has some rough spots. I don`t really dislike any manufacturer. (I liked King Cobra more than Mantis.)
TheKlockster
I said the Gravity-Group loving Vekoma Hating ACErs... I am kind of an ACEr - I mean I am an American, and a Coaster Enthusiast - I just don't gots the 50 bucks... But I like Gravity Group aka CCI - but I LOVE Vekoma. Every Vekoma I have been on has kicked ass!
Legend Rider
ahmagawd I dont know how to put into words what im wanting to say, but its basically this, and I will sto pas well, stop trash taling these coasters before they are built, its such bullcrap... lol no pun intended (El Toro) There are a few new coaster installations coming soon, so lets just give them some rides, and see how it goes... But just for the records, Vekoma has been noted as one of the roughest coaster manufacturers ever, they hurt so much.
CoastersRZ
Sorry, for the misunderstanding Klockster! It was a long 11 hours at the office today!
Braves0511
76 degrees!? Holy Crap. However, leave it to Six Flags to not only screw up a good thing, but also give the afformentioned good thing a crappy name. El Toro? Honestly. As long as we don't have to run with it. I'm looking forward more to the voyage it sounds cool.

I was like OMFG THAT WAS FREAKING AWESOME! Remember that Expedition Everest is a first of a kind coaster - using a Vekoma made track very similar to B&M track. @ the El Toro pun (spanish for The Bull) We just need to wait and see how these coasters turned out. Voyage looks incredible - and looked like its only obstacle would be overthrowing Thunderhead - but now we see there is another contender in the game...
