PKI vs. PKD - It’s Like Seeing An Old Friend by Lisa Bamberger, Park Guest Paramount Parks offers a blast of a time for people of all ages. As a long-time visitor of Kings Island, I took a trip over to their sister park Kings Dominion. They had some unique rides and shows, and yet so many similarities to Kings Island that it was deja vu. If you’re a fan of one, you’ll want to visit the other. It’s like seeing an old friend. Driving on I-71 in Ohio and I-95 in Virginia, you can see the same Eiffel Tower replica. Once inside Kings Dominion, it’s a concourse of original attractions and twin rides found in both parks, yet some have unique differences. Both parks have The Racer (called Rebel Yell at PKD) and the Flight of Fear. Drop Zone at PKI rotates on the way up; Tomb Raider at PKD is outdoors. PKD’s feature steel coaster, Anaconda, seats two across and has loops like PKI’s Vortex, but includes an underwater tunnel and splash effect. PKD’s Hypersonic XLC and PKI’s Italian Job are both thrilling coasters you ride in a race car along the track. Eating can add pleasure to your visit with tasty choices offered at both parks at reasonable prices. At PKI, I recommend Cincinnati favorites LaRosa’s Pizza and Skyline Chili which is served at several locations throughout their park. PKD offers delicious Black Angus burgers at Happy Days Café and other locations. When visiting both PKI and PKD, make time for School of Rock Live In Concert. Even my “don’t like shows†boyfriend really liked this one. At Star Search you can compete singing your favorite song live on stage. For some of us this is more frightful than any roller coaster! People love to be a star and we love watch, cheer, and even laugh. Go to both parks and experience the fun yourself. I must admit I prefer Kings Island, the King of Woodies! My boyfriend, who’s only been to Kings Dominion, says I’m partial to my home town park, but we’ll see! I can’t wait to take him there along with my son and brother next year! A Boy, A Girl and Kings Island Numerous times when I was a kid, my family would take yearly trips to Kings Island. However, due to me and my siblings growing up and being involved in nearly everything that we could, it became harder to take those annual vacations out to the amusement park, even though the thought of it was always there. About three years ago, I met and began falling in love with the most wonderful girl. We became inseparable. As we were getting to know each other, we would talk about our past and things we had done. One time the topic of vacations came up including Kings Island. We both had gone there many times when we were young with our families and both hadn't been back in a long time. It was kind of ironic and interesting that there could have been times that both our families were at the park at the same time, and that we could have seen each other even before we actually knew it! It was almost like Kings Island was some sort of fate that brought us together! With this thought always on our minds, we both decided that we needed to go back there sometime to relive those childhood memories. We managed to find a time this past summer right when we got out of our sophomore year in college to plan a vacation out to Ohio and back to the park we remember from our childhood years. It was such a wonderful time and we couldn't have picked a better place to visit. It was fun to be in the park and see how much each of us remembered from years back. The trip was also special because we were creating new memories - this time together! It was a special time with the most special person that I know, and we both look forward to revisiting the park more times in the upcoming years. We now see the connection that we have to the park and to each other even all the way back as far as we could remember. Thanks Kings Island for creating those memories, for initially bringing us together, and for having many more special times for us to share in the future! Brian C. from Peoria, IL will receive two tickets to Paramount's Kings Island. Winners are randomly selected. Submit your entry! Stay tuned for our next issue in two weeks! Stine grew up in Columbus, Ohio near Paramount’s Kings Island. He even wrote a book about one of the roller coasters in our park. Can you tell us the name of that book? Last issue we asked you what is the site of Ichabod Crane's last hours before his unfortunate encounter with the headless horseman? The answer, as stated on PKI's FearFest Site, is the Van Tassel Farmhouse. Congratulations to Allen J. from Dayton, OH for knowing the correct answer! He will receive two free tickets to Paramount's Kings Island. Contact Us Have a question about your Season Pass or about ordering online? Have a comment about our newsletter? Send us a note! CoastersRZ
Yep, the last day for Fear Fest and all the haunts will be Saturday the 29th of October. The Nick or Treat festivities will conclude on Sunday the 30th. The park will be open the following weekend from 10-6 but no FearFest attractions will be open. In fact, I would imagine most if not all of the FearFest stuff will be gone, and possibly some preparations for Winterfest will be present (besides the already drained and under conversion Royal Fountain)

CoastersRZ
No, I was up there on Friday night (to a very deserted park). The two open arches on the left(where water flows in and out) to the pump house (The International Bandstand) appeared to be covered from behind with plywood painted white. I`m assuming that this is part of the winterization of the pump house/ hiding the inner working for the ice skating rink. Other than that, all the nozzles and lights remain in their current position, with no signs of the rink or visible changes.
