Vortex Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 I was looking at rcdb.com and I see that Aviatar is no longer listed. So will it be a flat or coaster? Quote
CoastersRZ Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 From what I have heard, that will be debatable. We`ll know more in January! Quote
Gordon Bombay Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Did they hold the IAPPA conferences yet? was any concept art released? Quote
Captain Picard Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 I didn't know there was such a thing as IAPPA conferences. Quote
pkiboy Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 IAPPA stands for International Association of Amusement Parks. I never herd of it to. Quote
Gordon Bombay Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Theres a conference or convention for it where the park chains show off what new things are coming to their parks and ride companies show off their new designs and such. Quote
pkiboy Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Theres a conference or convention for it where the park chains show off what new things are coming to their parks and ride companies show off their new designs and such. Wow i did not know that thanks Combat. Quote
CoastersRZ Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 No, to the best of my knowledge the park has not (and will not) release any concept art or details about Nick Universe until after Winterfest in January. They will then have renderings of the new area from Keith McVine(sp). He is the guy that does the animations on Badnitrus over on Coasterbuzz. I believe he also did the Italian Job and Boomerang Bay movies and renderings. Quote
Captain Picard Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 I know what IAPPA is just never heard of park chains show off what new things. Park chains go to see what new food, merchandise, rides, services and so on. Parks like to keep their ideas to themselves. I know someone that goes and it's nothing to get excited about. Robocoaster and Disko was the main attractions last year. Quote
Scooby_Doo Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 ^^^^^^^Well if you would read this topic Here you guys and gals would know because I asked the same question and Shaggy answered it for me. Quote
VortexQueen Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Avatar is a family designed steel rollercoaster i kind of dont think the new NC is going to be all that we think it will, i went to PKI for winterfest and they have already started a few things. suddenly i dont like Lime Green and Orange. PCarowinds Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 So did anyone find out if it's actually a coaster or a modified Disk-o? I've heard that PGA is getting a W shaped Disk-o this year, so that would make this make sense. Quote
Scooby_Doo Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Yeah it is a modified Disk-O from I have read you would have to have it modified to go into NU. Quote
flightoffear1996 Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Do the Diskos even count as coasters? Quote
cewldre Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 from what Ive been told, RCDB doesn't count a disk-o as an actual coaster. Quote
King Bowser Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 I dont count it as one to me its more of a falt-ride. Quote
flightoffear1996 Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Well what about the Gensis Book of World Records? Quote
CoastersRZ Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 What about the Guiness Book of World Records? What are you asking about? Quote
cewldre Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 ^ this is just a guess, but I think they are wondering if Avatar would be considered a coaster and increase the number of coasters a park would have according to the Book. IE, park has 4 coasters, gets a disk-o, would it then be 5 coasters? Quote
RailRider Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Its not a coaster. The manufacturer doesnt even consider it a coaster. Quote
Gordon Bombay Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 ^If thats true then has rcdb removed all their disk-o's from their listings? Quote
RailRider Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 They never listed them as far as I know. Thats why Avitar was removed once it was determined to be a Disk'O. Thats why the Dizzy Disk and DollyWood for example is not listed on RCDB. Quote
Vortex Posted January 29, 2006 Author Posted January 29, 2006 Some pictures of the track of the Disk-O at PGA are here. Quote
flightoffear1996 Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Its nothing like tomb raider. Well by the defition of a roller coaster which is something like this. In essence a specialised railroad system, a coaster consists of a track that rises and falls in specially designed patterns, sometimes with one or more inversions (the most common being loops) that turns the rider briefly upside down. The track does not necessarily have to be a complete circuit (the antonym of complete circuit is "shuttle"), though some purists insist that it must to be a true coaster. (Not all thrill rides that run on a track are roller coasters). I dont think its a coaster if you go by that. Quote
UncleHenry Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Its not a coaster. The manufacturer doesnt even consider it a coaster. Yeah, they don't consider it a coaster why should we? I mean, who would consider a ride with the model name, "Disko Coaster" a coaster? Quote

flightoffear1996 Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 read it all (Not all thrill rides that run on a track are roller coasters). Quote
CoastersRZ Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 But your definition does not clarify what stipulates that a thrill ride that runs on a track is considered a coaster or not. It just says that some thrill rides that run on a track are not considered a coaster. What criteria determines if it is a thrill ride or a coaster? Quote
Enchanted Voyager Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 SDATHC runs on a track system and it's not a coaster. But for Avatar we should wait and see the finished project to judge it's type. Also when was Tomb Raider ever considered a coaster? I knew it was debatable about being a dark ride but never heard about it being called a coaster. Quote
