I was at the beach water parks site and I saw that they freeze one of the water slides over and they let you slide down it!!!! I think PKI needs to move the winter fest area over to the water park and do some of this with the slides. I think it would be so much fun. What do you guys think?

While it may be fun, I doubt it. They would have to open up a lot of the park to get guests back there. And it just seems like it would be too far of a walk to get guests out there. Not to mention all the necessary preparations they would have to make to the slide. I would rather see them open up an indoor ride that they have, such as TR:TR or even the Dodgems. Something other than the Carousels and Scooby (besides the White Christmas Express). Maybe next year.

Why would they have to open alot of the other park just use the water park entrance and the building over there I think it would be freakign sweet! And then they jst could have the water park area open and its not like it would get too crowded cause I am sure not that many people woudl be going.

But what about the ice skating on International Stree? And the Eiffel Tower? And the classic Carousel? And Holiday Illuminations? Not going to happen.

Incidentally, the Pedal boats that they use in their Lazy Miami River come from Coney Island. Coney removed their boats from Lake Como for the winter (and in case of a flood from the mighty Ohio). They then send some of the boats up to the Beach for their use during Holiday Fest.

Whould you rather go around in circles going 2MPH or slide down some ice slides? I think they could still put the lights up and the winter stuff. I mean you can only look at the lights so long before they bore you and you could ice skate in the wave pool!!!!! laugh.gif

But WinterFest is not about the thrill rides. It is about family attractions and the magic of the holidays. Boomerang Bay, no matter how much they decorated it, would not evoke the same magic as what the current park can evoke. Perhaps it is the lack of mature trees over by the wavepool, and the large expanse of concrete.

Yea but I mean how long can you stare at the lights before they lose thier effect? Its only a few minutes they really need to have some more things to do and keep the guest busy. They could just open up the train which is allreday open anyway!!!!!

I went to Holiday Fest two years ago and they did the same thing, but the slide wasn't frozen over. You'd just take a dry run down one of hte slides in a sled. I bet that's how they're doing it this time too. It was uber-lame.

look at the festival of lights at the cincinnati zoo. This has been a huge success for many years, a few decades even. there is nothing more to do at the zoo than look at all the pretty ights, ice skate, and see the maybe 5 animals that arent curled up inside.... yet still the guests come pouring through the gates night after night, year after year.

Open TRTR, FoF, and Bumper cars... Heck, lets open up the whole park.

You are missing the whole point of Winterfest. It's not about having the thrills during winter, it's about holiday cheer. What good is opening the park for the holiday stuff when everyone heads toward the rides?

As much as I would love to see more rides open, I think you know as well as I do that if they opened Tomb Raider, there would be a 3 hour wait for it... in the freezing cold. Just go an enjoy the food and shows... worry about the rides in April!

Every coaster in that park cannot operate in cold temps anyway. If you don't like to spend time outside looking at the lights and just having a good time with your friends and family, then Winterfest is not for you and you should not even go. Again, as everyone stated before, it is about the magical experience, the lights, the shows, the good times. What gets me is that people complain and complain about PKI not having Winterfest. When they do finally bring it back, everyone complains about the rides not being open. What did you expect? Frankly, even if the rides could operate in cold temps, I would not want to freeze my noze off. I just go having fun looking at the lights and just being in awe that my fav past time w/ KI was brought back. Just ask Therickster. I was just amazed at it and was being a little kid again.

If the dull lights are not doing it for you, I beleive you are attending the wrong event. After all this is to celebrate the Christmas seasson not to go to PKI in the winter and ride all the rides. Go get checked for ADD if the lights and the other attractions at WinterFest are not enough for you and also get a clue about the event.

I wasn`t insinuating they should open more rides. (I even think that they should have decorated Scooby Doo to give it a Christmas theme.) The point is to not visit the normal Kings Island, but to visit WinterFest, a winter wonderland. I understand that most rides shouldn`t be open. However, a family friendly ride like the Dodgems could be opened up. They did, afterall have it open for the final WinterFest in 1992.

Just be glad that they brought it back, and have a couple of rides open. For the park`s sake, I hope they deem this year`s WinterFest a success and decide to continue it in the years to come.

See this this is excatly why I dont even state anythign on this site because its people like you who all they do is bash people and put them down. Start acting your age and grow up a little and realize the people have the right to there own ideas.

Anyway with that said why would you pay $20 bucks to look at some lights when you could go to that light drive threw thing in Sharonville and be in your nice warm car. At PKI you got to pay for parking pay for a ticket just to get you inside the gate and you got to pay even more to ice skate.

I will pay my money to visit WinterFest and also the lights at the zoo. Why? Because I enjoy Christmas, love the holiday atmosphere and have the money to spend on what I and others consider entertainment. I also like shiney objects and twinkle lights wink.gif . Learn to handle opinions different from yours in a better way. After all you will not always be right, stand up for what you beleive and if someone disagrees with you make a case for why you are right, not why their opinion is stupid just like them.

Have you ever heard of "Tongue in Cheek?"

Throw a little gasoline around and you get a big fire. Some people on this site take things so personaly and get all fired up. Some topics are worth it and some arent. You be the judge.

I'd say that the Kings Island WinterFest is a far different concept than Holiday in Lights at Sharon Woods. Sure, the Sharon Woods event is cheaper and you get to stay in your warm car (and I think you can tune your radio to local frequency for a soundtrack?), but you only get to see it all for several minutes.

When you go to WinterFest, you get 5-6 hours to see everything. And it's far more than just a bunch of Christmas lights, including a 300+ foot tall tree of lights. It's got a lot of wonderful live shows, good food, shopping, and even some rides. I think $20 (at least for a one-time visitor) is very reasonable to get in.

Do I think some costs are a bit high? Yes, they should lower the rink fee for ice skating, especially since you're paying to get into the park. And I haven't been the biggest fan of park parking fees, but that's how they cover the cost of running the place.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to WinterFest last Friday. Even a young adult like me nearing the age of 24 found it very entertaining, fun, and worthwhile. The White Christmas Express, contrary to the opinions of some, was a great experience. Not perfect, but still great. WinterFest may be the priciest holiday event around town, but quite possibly the biggest and best.

The waterslide idea is one that several people joke about although it could happen, it will not due to insurance reasons. As for the Dodgems idea, just hold on to it. If Winterfest stays, then I am sure it will happen at some point. BTW, are the Dodgem Cars in the building?

do you realize how bad of an idea that is to freeze a wave pool!? that is a terrible Idea, it would damage the pumps like no other!!

If you really want ice slides, which I dont. How about building a Russian Ice Slide off the backside of the Effiel Tower. Could use the elevators to get people to the top of the RIS and then let gravity do the rest.

I beleive I do not need to explain a Russian Ice Slide to this well educated group of PKI enthusiasts, but let me know if some of you may have questions.

Bull censored.gif . If it was for holiday and good cheers, then why is it located in an amusement park? If its going to be in a place like kingsisland, they should have some kingsisland rides open?

Yes or yes?

SFOT has Holiday in the Park and it has half of the park going under yearly rehab and half running right now. Though they are in Arlington,TX so it is a bit warmer there. Most of the ocasters are closed most;y flats are open.
