Eiffel Tower Lighting

I don`t know. I also wondered if they would keep up the lights (and keep them lit) outlining the buildings on International Street. They used to have all the buildings outlined, until they started running out of replacement bulbs because the lights were so old. Rather than have half the lights working, they opted to just turn them off.

I noticed that, too! The spotlights make the tower look "sharper" (hi-def!) at night than do the flood lights. In fact, I've mentioned before in other posts that the tower looks like something out of an industrial plant, or oil refinery when lit with floods. When I was a kid, the Eiffel Tower looked a lot more majestic when the lights came on. Lately, it looks awful (especially with the bright, 'square' lamps that shine down from just above the upper deck. Looks like a big street light). I hope they reconsider the lighting scheme; it would bring back a touch of Kings Island magic that has been missing for some years now.

No, I believe that they did illuminate the tower this year with the "blacklights" which were nothing more than a film placed over the traditional spotlights. However, they kept the spotlights atop the tower illuminates, as those lights provide general illumination to several of the surrounding midways.

I hope they do keep up the light outlining the buildings on International Street. I really miss that and it really makes IS look nice! I certainly understand PKI not wanting to have them on if some of the lights are burned out, but they would always do something drastic like *replace* the burned out bulbs... wink.gif

Yep. They removed the lights outling the buildings on International Street a couple of years ago. 2002 I think. They removed them because the wiring was 30 years old, and they could no longer locate replacement bulbs that would work with the wiring. All they did that first year was simply turn the lights off. The original lights were eventually removed over the following years.
