BoddaH1994
I am pretty sure I have seen it testing last week. You very likely did. In fact, they were testing it yesterday around 10am or so... with 5 cars...
CoastersRZ
Well, they have to get it ready for its state inspection before any of us can have the priveledge of riding it this year.
Beastfreak
missing one car!
CoastersRZ
Well, that is not exactly a new development. Also, every time I try to click on your thumbnail, it causes Safari to unexpectedly quit. Not sure if this is just an error with my Safari or not.
CoastersNSich
Obviously, Son of Beast was testing its 2 trains almost continuously today, and I can't wait to get my first ride of the year tomorrow. Again, better get to bed soon!
Stitch
Why did they remove a car from the trains, are they trying to get all three running, just trying to cut down on weight or something else?
Snake Attack!
well if this retracking doesn't work, here is what i would like to see but it is totally unrealistic, I would like to see them destroy all of the helix's and make the ride more windy and curvy like The Beast, keep the loop though, add some tunnels would be really cool also. pkiboy
My friends just called me and they just got off the SOB and they told me what a difference it was. It was very smooth.
CoastersRZ
The reason they removed one of the cars is so that the trains weighed less. In turn, the train will not be going quite as fast as it used to, allowing for a somewhat smoother ride. I just got back from the park, after waiting just under an hour for Son of Beast. It is definantely smoother, perhaps the smoothest it has ever ran. It however is not "B&M" smooth as others have said it was going to be. Hopefully, the ride can stay running as it was today for the rest of the season! Hopefully people will continue lining up for this ride like they were today! MrPKI
Sounds cool! I'm looking forward to trying it in a couple weeks. I didn't really expect it to be B&M smooth, but what (non-prefabricated) woodie is? SOB would really be an enjoyable ride if they indeed got rid of of the jolting and bumps. One thing I wonder though is how people realized that it had gotten smoother now. The last few times I've ridden it, there has been almost no one in line. Word spreads fast I guess. Either that or the fact that it was finally open after months of downtime attracted a bunch of people.
CoastersRZ
Well, I think the fact that the park was VERY BUSY today added to the length of its line. I mean when I left the park at 12:45 today, the line for Delirium (with all the queues open) was spilling out into the Action Zone midway. coaster25
Did they modify the trains? I know they removed one of the cars but is the seats still the same and the lap bars? Did they add seatbelts like they did for The Beast?
ohioamusementparkzrule
SOB was running today and I did notice that a car was missing. The line was out a behind the tunnell, bridge thing. I was going to ride it but the line was incredably long.
Stitch
Neutering rides ... I hate it , also the decision to remove one car is purely the reason for longer lines. While the loss of 12 seats may not seem like a lot, it definatly adds to the wait
CoastersRZ
Yes, removing one car from each train does reduce the capacity of the ride (60 people for every ten trains dispatched). However, if it makes the reide experience smoother and more enjoyable, I`m all for waiting an extra five to ten minutes. Also, on a day like today, those six extra people per cycle aren`t really going to make a huge difference on the speed at which the line moves. I know how much a reduction in capacity can slow a line. I have worked the Pepsi Pythoon at Coney on very busy days. Due to the roughness in the back seat, we are not allowed to put people in the very back row. So in a train that holds 8 people, we are only allowed to sit six people. Talk about a capacity killer. And the fact that there are no signs, or markings that denote to park guests that the back row is closed, makes for answering a lot of "Why is the back seat closed?" questions in a shift. harvesterofyoursorrow
I rode today. Smooth-er but not very good. I waited and hour and ten minutes to ride. Its much more enjoyable. Guess where they put the extra cars! (Right by the last drop on the left before the brake run)
coaster25
Can anyone please answer my question to my previous posting?
ohioamusementparkzrule
I dont think they changed anything on the train, except remove one of the cars.
harvesterofyoursorrow
They did change the numbering on the train cars itself.
CoastersRZ
Also, in the station they have added railings blocking off the queue area where car 6 used to park. Additionally, they dissabled the air gates for car 6.
harvesterofyoursorrow
If you look under the station you can see that all they did was cut the copper pipe that tied the car 6 gates to the rest of the gates.
ZosoBeast
After I got the word that it was open today, I jumped in the car and took a quick spin on it. I thought it was a much better ride. In fact, there were only 2 spots on the track that I noticed had any huge amounts of roughness to them. I sat in 4-3. Wanted to make sure I had a wheel seat just to get the full effect. I noticed they had music playing on the speaker system through out the que. I also noticed that the shelf where you put stuff while you rode is gone and replaced with a trunk much like on Deli. On ride pics were also available.
Captain Nemo
I had the chance to get me a ride on SOB. I myself thought the ride was great last year and before that and I had no problem with it. It is smoother this time around and a much more enjoyable ride. It is worth taking a spin on.
Gordon Bombay
I noticed they had music playing on the speaker system through out the que. What kind of music? I've noticed throughout some ques its the same music thats on Qtv and I've heard what seems to be a seperate soundtrack thoroughout the park although not what I'd consider good music.
ZosoBeast
It was not que tv music. I heard a bunch of 70's dance songs cranking out at FULL volume. I like the fact that they have music to listen to in the que, but lets bring it down a notch. That was just a tad bit on the loud side. ohioamusementparkzrule
I heard Danger Zone when I was in line for Top Gun and it sounded like it might becoming from the SOB line maybe too. Kinda of topic but I watched The Beast get what looked to be a new equipment box put in yesterday under the barn or whatever the place where they store the cars is called. VortexQueen
I heard 5/21/06.. which is today.. i remeber last weekend that the trains were on the tracks and with test dummies in them which was good news.. so i might be over today to see that it is Hopefully open.. i'll die if it isnt. -.-
flightoffear1996
I rode it on Saturday and waited over and hour and it looks like it was a pretty good job on the park saving this ride. It wasnt as smooth as I thouhgt it would be but it is now an enjoyable ride unlikle before. They really did a great job and I am happy to see the ride with a line that means the park is finally starting to make money from it. That line is how the worlds tallest wooden coaster should be and not a walk on. Great job on fixing the SOB.
CYoung2003
The music has always been playing through SOB station and the queue, it was just turned up a notch. It's the Action Zone soundtrack.
