Chantal Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 my dad is getting me to go on the Son of Beast but i'm nervous about it. i do want to. but it has a loop and i never ridden a looped coaster before. so can anyone who has ridden the Son of Beast please tell me whats it like. thanks. Quote
standbyme Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Gee...get ready for some great replys! Personally...and this coming from someone who used to not like coasters...the loop is actually the best (and least scariest) part of the ride. The SOB is ROUGH...do not sit "on the wheel"...which means sit in the middle of the car. Good Luck! Quote
TQZ Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 On the SOB, for the best ride, as everyone will tell you, ride in the first car, second seat of that car. Also, if you can get by with it, try to leave your lap bar a bit loose, this acts as a buffer, and makes the ride smoother, at least for me it does. When you go in the loop, its probably the smoothest part of the ride, and at first you feel a bit loose in your seat, and then as you complete the loop, it feels like you get pushed down. I dont know any other way to describe it, but thats my description. Quote
BoddaH1994 Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Listen to all of the statements above. It's important where you sit. Other than that, just sit back and enjoy your ride. These things are very safe. Quote
Captain Nemo Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 I remember the first looping coaster I was ever on, I was so on edge but after the ride I was wanting to go again. I found it is not the loops that everyone should be scared of, it's how intense it is. If you can handle intense rides you will love SOB. Quote

That is the car that we always sit in, and that's right. It's the best car to sit in. Quote
Outdoor Man Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Actually, I used to trash SOB any chance I got. My last ride, dare I say was smoother than The Beast... We weren't in the first car either.... I was in the 3rd car, back seat, right side. For what it's worth, the maintenance crew did an outstanding job to help this coaster. my 2 cents. Quote
CYoung2003 Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Also, if you can get by with it, try to leave your lap bar a bit loose, this acts as a buffer, and makes the ride smoother You wont get by with it, dont even try Quote
Flying Eagles 1972-2004 Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 I believe he meant having it like an inch above your lap, not one clicked or something... Quote
TheKlockster Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Yeah - he means don't be stapled. Which is perfectly safe and reasonable. You shouldn't have any space between your legs and your restraint though. Quote
Chantal Posted June 15, 2006 Author Posted June 15, 2006 oh okay thanks guys. that helps. i am a big fan of The Beast and my dad says that the Son of Beast is a baby compared to The Beast. Quote
pkifootballer Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 You better be ready for one wild ride. When you go through a loop its not that bad.Son of Beast is my favorite ride in the park and is very fun. It may be a bit jerky but is very fun and thrilling. Son of Beast was my first loop to so just relaxe and ride it. Quote
coasterking123456 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Loops aren't scary at all you go through it so fast you hardly know you went through it. Quote
Snake Attack! Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 It is not the loop that you should be apprehensive about, but the ride itself. Have fun it will definately be one of your wildest rides. Quote
Braves0511 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 yeah basically what everyone else said dare I say was smoother than The Beast... We weren't in the first car either.... I was in the 3rd car, back seat, right side i did the same thing: middle of the very last car and it was enjoyable enough, and it did seem smoother than The Beast the day i rode it... And it took me awhile to get my nerve up to get on SOB too, but im glad i did as it is now probably my favorite coaster i've ridden so far.. Quote
PKIVortex Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Yeah you better sit in a middle of a car. May I suggest 3-2 middle of train. DO NOT SIT OVER THE WHEELS! You will not like the ride after that. Quote
flightoffear1996 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 You dont even know you go upside when you actully do it. Quote
KIBeast Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 SOB is a great coaster. However, it is a bit rough, but nothing you can't handle. The loop is awesome and one of my favorite parts next to the Rose Bowl. On a side note, my first looper was the Screamin' Demon. I was nervous while climbing the tower, but, after it was over, I loved it. It was also the first coaster I rode that went backwards. Quote
Jeffy Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 The Son of Beast was actually smoother than The Beast my last trip (June 7th). I didn't notice all the roughness that I experienced last year. I had a headache last year after riding SOB. The Beast may need some re-tracking as I felt some crazy bumping that I had never experienced in the last 20 years I've rode it. As far as the loop, no worries. It will be over quickly. The first helix on SOB is the wildest part of the ride in my opinion. Quote
PKIVortex Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 SOB wasn't smooth yesterday. Normally in 1-1 I never felt it that rough in the front. I'm sticking to the middle of each car now. I have 2 bruises on my knees today, from yesterday's ride. My back is pretty sore too. Quote
screamslikeagirl Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I can't remember where we sat but I rode SOB for the first time on Thursday night and it was the roughest coaster I've ever ridden. Way rougher than The Beast. But I loved every minute of it! Quote
italianchef Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 It's NOT that scary at all. The loop is actually very fast and smooth. As a matter of fact - the loop is steel - not wood. Hence, it is very safe. Just enjoy the ride and relax. May the Force be with You, Italian Chef Quote
The Interpreter Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 There is a difference between scary and rough. Rough can be not scary at all, but that doesn't make it smooth or enjoyable. The loop is the only part of that thing I enjoy. It's been that way since my first ride. My ONLY question when I ride that thing (with friends who want to) is "How bad will it be THIS time?" It has days when it is not as bad as others. But to me, at least, to call it enjoyable is not credible. Kind of like comparing trips to the dentist for a filling. Some are better than others, but I'd take a day at the opera over any of them. And I don't even like opera. Quote
WooferBearATL Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I haven't ridden SOB this year and I'm not sure I will. I understand that sentiment about "how bad will it be this time" so i'm thinking that I won't be riding it any time soon. Quote

May the Force be with You, Italian Chef Incorrect good sir, the loops has wooden track with a steel support structure, the track is wooden, hence why it is a wooden coaster and not a hybrid. Steel supports/track do not make the ride any more safe than if it was all wooden track/supports. Quote
