CoastersRZ
An article that appeared in the Cincinnati Enquirer today details what industry experts think will happen to Son of Beast. Most agree that it will stick around, and even reopen this year. Will Son of Beast Return? Also included in the article is a section on injuries that have occurred at Kings Island. While they got the year wrong for Black Sunday (they referred to it as happening in 1993 instead of 1991) they do mention PKICentral as being a source for the information and citing PKIC as "the park`s official fan Website" However, we do list black Sunday as occuring in 1991. (The other source was the Ohio Department of Agriculture.) Prior Accidents at Kings Island
coastergirl
They list the pond incident and the Flight Commander incident on the same day (6/9/93). The pond incident happened on 6/9/91. Was the Flight Commander also on 6/9/91 or just by coincidence that it happened on the same date in 1993?

CoastersRZ
Well, in the history section of this site, we have 1991 listed as the year the incident occured. So they must have gotten the information from the Ohio Department of Architecture. Although I find it hard to believe that they would get that information incorrect since they are the ones that inspect and keep records on the rides. But yes it was 1991 when Black Sunday happened.
KIBeast
Wouldn't PKIC be the best unofficial fan site? Like Pointbuzz is for Cedar Point.
PKIVortex
Well PKIC is an offical fan site. At least I look at it that way.

I'm pretty sure they happened the same day, that's why it's refered to as "Black Sunday"
CoastersNSich
The Gary Burbank Show on 700 WLW, just ran a commercial parody for Kings Island. It's a new thrill ride called "Son of Drop Zone Beast Flight of Fear." It's a coaster that jumps the track, then drops one-thousand feet, in ten seconds, before ending up on the other side of the track. A death-defying experience that you should try before they close it down. "Only at Kings Island!"
Vortex
Would Kings Island open Son of Beast with not much of the season left? Why not just take the time and fix it. What time did Son of Beast close last year?
CoastersRZ
Yep. I miss typed in my post above. It is the Ohio Department of Agriculture (not Architecture). Thats what a weekend of tracing and developing a set of preliminary plans will do to you.

cstrwomann
If Cedar Fair doesn't put in new coasters at the parks every few years people will not go to the parks. The reason in my opinion people aren't going to the parks out of state is because Cedar Point has the most variety of coasters and usually people visit Cedar Point because it's one of the largest amusement park in the USA. People want to see new and different attractions not repeats among competitors. (CF/SF) I haven't rode Kingda Ka yet but I have rode TTD and it's awesome! I hope they reopen SOB before the end of the season. I would like to see a hypercoaster added to PKI sometime in the future years. I feel this would boost attendance alot because PKI has mostly wooden coasters which are all great. They have added 3 family attractions recently. cstrwomann
Son of Beast is one of their major coasters in the park that people come from out of state to ride. Attendance is probably down because the coaster is down. This is why they want to reopen it ASAP. The season closes October 29th, 2006 if they don't have Winterfest. They won't rush to fix it they'll fix it correctly so they don't have anymore problems. If they were planning on closing the coaster I think they would announce it. I dont think Attendance is down because of a roller coaster. And I dont think Kings Island will be closing on the 29th of Oct. Usually they stay open the first week in NOV wich would be the 4th and 5th they have been doing that since the year 2000. Keep in mind The Beast attracts lots of people and its been there long before the Son of Beast. I dont think Son of Beast is going to open any time soon Thats just my thought. The Interpreter
And I don't think attendance is factor one, two, three or even sixty four concerning when Son of Beast reopens, if it does. At Cedar Fair, guest safety is paramount.
cstrwomann
The website schedule shows October 29th as the last day open. Safety is a priority with Cedar Fair at all their parks. Another forum showed an article that SOB will run again by the end of the season. Beast is my favorite woodie out of all coasters I have rode. SOB is #2 wooden coaster. The other coasters are good but they aren't major attractions that draw people from out of state to the park. If they close a major ride down for along period of time people from out of state will not visit the park they will go elsewhere. People don't like when rides are closed at parks because the other lines get longer and they don't have as many thrill rides to ride. The Interpreter
Nowhere has any article said that Son of Beast WILL run again this season. Several articles have said it could be closed a month, but those cite a state ride inspector for that opinion. Other articles have quoted industry experts who believe the ride will reopen this season. Again, the investigation as to what happened isn't even complete. As for Son of Beast being down affecting attendance from out of state visitors, I doubt that 0.05% of out of state visitors come to Kings Island primarily to ride Son of Beast.
