Yes i have to say that PT was one of the best dark rides around but i had a link to a PT page that had a whole bunch of pics and other good info so i am sure that someone will post it on here.

I Remember when PT opened I was upset that my beloved smurfs were gone (I grew up in the 80's after all) while I liked PT I was overly thrilled that Scooby was coming but was sad to see PT go then I kept thinking about those little kids that were scared to death to even walk into PT which I seen happen often now I see kids overly excited to to just walk in to the haunted castle and help Scooby Doo and the Mystery Inc Gang.

Phantom Theater is missed but as much as I hate to say it I love the new scooby doo attraction more.

When the ride first opened there was a special on it on network TV, although I can't remember which channel. It showed a lot of the ride footage. If anyone can find a copy of this they'll win 1,000 PKIC Bucks. As you guys know, PKIC bucks are good for.......nothing, but still try to find it.

Phantom Theater was the greatest non-roller coaster ride in the history of Kings Island. Though I like, SDATHC, it is two or three classes below what Phantom Theater was.

To this day, I still miss the sight, the sound, and even the smell of the ride. Not only did I love the music in the ride, but the sound of the wind and wolves outside of the ride. Here are links that may help:

I agree. Phantom Theater was a truly unique ride with awesome animatronics that were rare for a seasonal park. Sadly, ridership had dwindled in its final seasons, which is what led to its demise. At least all was not lost, the park still brings out many of the characters to decorate the queue for the Action FX Theater at FearFest. Not last year, but in 2004, they actually had some of the animatronics operational!

Kings Island didn't help itself with Phantom Theater in its last years.

Remember the aborted attempt (which lasted all of one day) to only let adults ride with a child? After that failed miserably, they STILL kept a sign with that policy at the ride entrance for at least a month. Though they said removing it would scar the entrance and hurt the theming, some of us felt then and still do that the park WANTED ridership to go down so they could show corporate they needed a new attraction in that building.

Sigh.

Maybe some day we could get a "The Phantoms Revenge"... of course there is a roller coaster called "Phantoms Revenge"... but I think the name would be ok since they would be two totally different rides!

I would just build a new one all together with the same theme, characters, music, etc. But new building, new ride system, updated animatronics, updated effects (peppers ghost, etc.)... and it would truly be haunting! I think that would be super cool! -Hauntguy

Holy crap.. AWESOME FIND! Totally brought back some great memories! Thanks for sharing. -Hauntguy

PS: I think the background music is a modified theme from "Tales from the Crypt".

*shivers* "Tales From the Crypt" and Phantom Theatre scared me to death when i was little, but i would really like to see Phantom Theatre come back. It was truely a very unique and fun ride.

It is 100 percent BS that they turned perfecty good ride into some dog crap. KI made a huge mistake right then in there when they turned it into a stupid idiotic Scooby Doo bull crap. How could anyone like that stupid exuse for a ride? TELL ME WHY!

Because they are little kids and like Scooby and were terrified of Phantom Theater? Because Phantom Theater was part of HB but not really, and needed to fit in Nick (which the park had on its long term five year plan)? Because teenagers were misbehaving on the older ride and getting out and causing problems and damaging scenery? Because parts were getting harder and harder to get and the animatronics were very outdated? Because Paramount Parks owned the ride and park and wanted to and didn't have to ask anyone's permission to do it? And lastly, because they thought the newer ride would get a lot more people waiting in line for it than the older one did, and a change would make MOST people happy. Which it did.

And, I, too, miss Phantom Theater. But parks either change or, like Erieview, they die. I don't want that, and I doubt you do either.

One nice thing about Phanton Theatre, I have to admit, was the darkness which made it ideal for getting a little close (or too close) to significant others during the ride. There are quite a few stories about the hanky panky that went on in there. wink.gif

You must not have seen Enchanted Voyage or Smurf's Enchanted Voyage then.

Oh snap! biggrin.gif

I hardly remember the original Enchanted Voyage (was in diapers) but the smurf ride was perfect. Even had a little hill and drop-splash. There's something more, dare I say, enchanting about slowly floating in boats through a ride than on a mechanical mover.

LOL

You're right!

Gently Floating as opposed to being placed on a conveyer belt with cars!

I for one was glad to see Phantom Theater go it wasnt even fun anymore in its last years but hope is shining last I heard is that Kentucky Kingdom was interested in buying the rights to PT.

I love the new Scooby Doo attraction and most kids perfer it than to PT after all PT was scary to them and it was no Haunted Manison.. mad.gif dang ghouls scared my smurfs away!

Does any one here think KI should replace that Addams Family Coaster Idea with PT I mean just replace the characters(since Paramount couldnt get the rights to the addams family anyway)have a wicked wild coaster with the PT ghouls.

Nah, I dont think that would work at all its nice to see those figures at FearFest.

OffTopic-

Question for all you FearFest fans how old do you have to be to get into FearFest? Because when I went last year with a group of friends I seen a LOT of little kids so whats the age range because I dont think FearFest is for little kids.

There is no "age restriction" just a warning. "This event may not be suitable for young children." That's all! I wish they would put in place and enfore an age guidline! -Hauntguy
