Well, I don`t know exactly how many steps there are in the Eiffel Tower at Kings Island. But, lets assume that each riser height is 7" (which is the maximum riser height allowed by the 2005 Ohio Building Code). The top platform on the Eiffel Tower is 275'. So, by using simple arithmetic, we can come up with a ballpark figure of 471 steps. But that is assuming that each step has a riser height of 7" Granted, the building code was considerably different back in 1972 when the Tower opened, and the fact that those stairs are there primarily as service stairs could mean that they actually have a larger riser height than 7"

I did not work on the tower it self but when I was a litter gitter back in 1972 through 1975 but when we were assigned the arera under and around the tower it was our job to go walk up to the 50 foot level and sweep. We rode the elevator up to the top and do like wise. I always liked having that area because I could go up and "chill out" and enjoy the view. I know there had always been plans to put some sort of a restuarant up on the 50 foot level but that was shelved. When that teen fell during a grad night, the decision was made to close the 50 foot level.

The idea for a restaurant was shelved long before I worked there. One of the stands I supervised in the 80's was tower drinks. Tower Drinks for all intents and purposes was just a pit due to the difficulty of having water running to the location.

I don't remember the number but I do remember it as being one of the random facts that were said by the older gentleman that has worked the ride as long as I can remember.

I do know of someone on here that may know...

I'm thinking that a ride op that worked tower should know that answer. I'm really surprised that I don't know the answer to it but I never thought of it.

If I remember right PKI_Diana said on here that she used to be a supervisor for the Eiffel Tower, and may be you can call the parks info line, they may at least be able to steer you in the right direction. I will e-mail her to see if she knows.

That's right, I was an Eiffel Tower supervisor for 3 seasons. 314 ft tall. 410 steps. platforms at 50 ft, 265 ft, and 275 ft. Eiffel Tower Green paint (originally). Having walked them once in my life, I believe it. In my last season I traveled well over 100,000 miles in that elevator. I was a nerd that calculated the distance, times the number times up and down per a day, every day I worked (gotta love excel!).

Boy do I miss it at times...

Jezz 410 steps all the way to the top. I would like to do because I think it would be pretty fun to walk to the top. Anyway were guest ever aloud to walk to the top or just the to the 50 foot platform?

Just the 50ft prior to the 1990s. And all the way down ONLY as a last resort emergency. Trust me, you don't want to do it.

Thank-you PKI_Diana for you quick response, I hope all is going well for you. I got a question coming from your 1st reply; if you went 100,000 miles how many trips does that take? Is it 100,000 divided by 275 = 181.81 trips up and 181.81 trips down?

Opps …my bad

Well I hope ddenham doesn’t use the elevator trips theory in his report, as he may just get laughed out of the class room. You know you can’t always trust those Excel programs.

But PKI_Diana should still have the number of trips she went to refigure the actual miles traveled in one season.

Whoops. I added too many zeroes upon looking at the document not 100,000 but 10,000

You must remember that the tower can get anywhere from 20 to 30 trips an hour (2 way) so multiply by two. And as supervisors, we could be working from 6 hours to 16 hours on any given day. And seeing how long the season is. MAXIMUM OF 70 HOURS A WEEK.

I love reading stuff about the Tower. Its one of those things at KI thats just neat. Sure, you ride a few thrill rides here and there, but none of it would be the same without things like that. I love going up in it every visit. Usually when I'm with other people its not a big deal to them, but it makes my visit complete.
