This is a pic i found of me and my brother( I am on the left side) in a newspaper clipping dating back to 1982, snazzy uniforms were they not?....:lol::lol:

My brother actually did become a helicopter pilot like he said in the article and was killed in 1986 Germany in a copter accident, i mentioned something about being an oceanogropher or something, I was just talking out of my ass, all i cared about then was the awesome parties that were held weekly by rides co-workers..... Those were some of the best times of my life... I moved on to a professional career some years later and even went into the live shows at pki in the 90's , but you just gotta love those big white belts in the photo...lmao

Wanted to add that in the " giant slide" days we were always in trouble by wardrobe for daily burn holes in our pants. Those plastic infused gabardine pants would actually melt when we slide down without a rug....For such a simple ride there were a lot of nasty accidents..... On a hot sunny day we would wax it and then put wax paper under our rugs and you would go out to the games which was across the street at that time...Had to watch out for that railing at the bottom cause it would take your head off if you didn't lay back when you went under it.... I guess when i found this above article stashed away in a keep sakes box a few months ago it brought back a lot of memories and I remembered how the park and times have changed throughout the years. Sorry for the rantings of days long gone.

I have lots of pics somewhere.... If i can find them, I have a classic pic of where my brother worked at winter fest in foods back in the 80's and we were getting yelled at by our supervisor, wow he was a *&$^&***(& , we were being reprimanded cause instead of making festive Xmas doughnuts we decorated them in orange and black halloween style(only cause he was a jerk, oh those were the rebellious days) however I have pics somewhere of the Screamn Demon, which was the first ride I ever worked on. If I find these pics I will post them.

You might have, we only worked for a few weeks at winterfest in foods, we floated around alot and never really got to know anyone there in foods. We worked in rides through out the summer seasons for a long time.....

The other day I stopped in a thrift store and found some old fur lined Kings Island winterfest jackets. Of course I bought them. Why? I have no clue....lol

I guess that going from nostalgia to today, I'd expect that the uniforms will change this season. If you've been to Geauga Lake or Cedar Point or another (non-Paramount) Cedar Fair park, I'd expect the KI uniforms to be somewhat similar. You'll see a variety of colors, with different departments wearing different styles/colors. The nametag will be probably be a plastic ID style card worn horizontally, showing first name, department, and possibly hometown or, like at CP, college currently attending. (Of course, KI doesn't have housing, but they may do an international program like PKI did in the past).

Gone, hopefully, also are the days of wearing your own pants or shorts. Before Cedar Fair took over, the wearing of pants often got sloppy to the point guys' shirts were untucked, or worse... butt crack.

And I believe, at least it used to be this way, that KI`s international workers were housed at dorms down here at UC. They were then bussed via Metro busses to Kings Island.

It will be interesting to see what uniform changes are made this year. I think that it is obvious that there will be a uniform change this year. I`m not sure how strict KI is, but I know at Coney, they are very strict with uniforms. Shirts that aren`t tucked in can get you warnings from managers, or even points. Image is very important in this service industry. The park wants its workers to look professional and show that they care about their job and the customers who are paying for their wages.

I really hope uniform code does get alot stricter. Towards the end of last year they did try to instate a stricter policy, made us sign a paper that implied strict consequences and not signing us got us automatically termed. But I hope this year they don't give up enforcing these changes after a few weeks.

Don't think PKI didn't try and enforce strict dress code. The first couple weeks after they made us sign this paper there was a PKI employee who would check us before we left and went into the park. If you didn't have on a belt they made you go in Casting and buy one.

Please do NOT take my post wrong. Everyone has the god given right to dress the way they wish and that is cool with me, but not when you are representing a company and within the public image!!!

yes! as a current employee of the park even I agree with you. thats something that has always bothered me. I think interdepartmental supervisors could even help control that a little more as well.

The first year I worked at the park we had to wear park issued pants or shorts, and belts. They changed the policy in 2000, where you could wear your own khaki pants or shorts. However you still had a choice in 2000 and 2001 to still get pants and shorts and a belt issued to you from wardrobe, which I chose to do. I though it looked better when everyone had to have park issued clothes.

I remember when ya used to go in on Dry Run Day and you'd be fitted for your uniforms. They'd issue everyone two sets of uniforms and your names would be ironed into them. Each day you'd change out of them and give them back to the wardrobe ladies and they'd wash them and hang them up. You'd check them out each day.
