Water Around Tower

Featured Replies

Just wondering. I have always noticed water on the blacktop around the Eiffel Tower. And also when you walk under certain spots there is a drip. I always get my sholder dripped on when around the Tower. Where is this water coming from and why? Thanks.

I believe it is from the air conditioning from the elevator and the food stands water run off as well. Where is Diana when you need her?

I don't know about the Eiffel Tower, but I usually dry my hair on The Beast. For my feet, I usually go on Face/Off, shoeless of course.

Kind of ironic dont you think that they would have air conditioning units on top of a tower that always circulates heavy amounts of air on top of.

The mechanics are inside the enclosed steel part of the tower, so the wind wouldn't do much for that.

And besides, elevator equipment can generate a lot of heat. Especially when the elevators are rising to heights of 275 feet (where the top platform is located). I actually just read the chapter on elevators in my Environmental Technology text book. A little tidbit, is that the counterweights on most elevators are weighted to 40% of the maximum capacity of the elevators. Which, for the Kings Island elevators is 35 people, or 6,125 pound (assuming 35 people weighing 175 pounds each).

What is the counterweight for? I heard that it prevents the elevator from hitting the ground at full speed in case of a failure but I always thought they were used to keep strain off the motor.

The counter weight is sized to 40% of the maximum capacity of the elevator. The theory behind this is that the elevator motor won`t have to work as hard to lift the weight of the elevator. It is essentially requiring that the elevator motors are lifting only 60 percent of the total load as opposed to one hundred percent of the load. This equates to a smaller sized motor required to lift the elevators.

Also there are water puddles around the Tower that are left from the water truck that sprays the park down daily. Some of the puddles don't get squeegeed
