westcoaster
I know around the park the de-parmountizing is going great but what about the main sign out front I hope where the paramount mountain is that will be the Eifel tower Wishful thinking!!! Hope the sign changes soon:
CoastersNSich
As of yesterday, no changes, still same old PKI logo. I asked this of Maureen Kaiser earlier this month at Winter SOAR and she guessed that the entire sign may be re-done eventually to dis-associate with Paramount. What changes would happen this year I don't know, but I guess at least see the mountain symbole and P-word to go bye-bye.
CoastersRZ
I wouldn`t be so sure that the P word and mountain logo will disappear that quickly from the main marquee.
Cory Butcher
I personally like the Park Marquee, however I would like to see the Paramount and mountain taken off, with something else, possibly the Eiffel Tower in its place! I wonder how easy or hard this would be to accomplish?

mwhinva
Kings Dominion said the same thing concerning the new Cedar Fair ownership in a small business article, in the local paper, in February. The park spokesperson stated the main park sign along side interstate 95 would not change this year. The spokesperson stated the park would be intransition for the near future. Changing large signs like KI's and KD's would be a big expense and Cedar Fair is trying to spread the cost of the name change over a couple of years. The Interpreter
Maureen recently said the park had 12-18 months to complete the de-Paramounting, NOT including individual movie-themed rides, which apparently each have their own individual license. PKIVortex
The main sign is probably the last on the list right now. But I'm sure it will happen sooner then later.
WhoDeyForever
I went past it today and it was still paramount. Hopefully they change it soon.
Reclaimer
Daily updates aren't really needed on the status of the sign. Maureen already stated they have a year to a year and a half to change signs and such. It could be awhile. Like PKIVortex said, it's probably pretty low on their to-do list. They need to get really important things like the updated Rider Safety Guides posted at each ride entrance. The public will see the sign out front and they know what it means, no matter if it says Paramount's Kings Island or just Kings Island. The only reason they'd need to hurry and change something is if Paramount would come in and tell them to modify/remove said sign.
BoddaH1994
So here's the question I pose to you - do you think they'll just remove the Paramount logo, or do you think they'll replace it with something else?
The Interpreter
Given the whole thing is SUPPOSED to resemble the famous gates at the movie studio (how well it does that is for others to decide), I imagine you will at least ultimately see a major rehab. It really wouldn't be that difficult to at least cover the word Paramount, the mountain and stars as a first step, though. Doing so in a rather tacky fashion would not only be fast and economical for now, but it would even emphasize that change is coming to Kings Island (and probably make Woofer very happy!) jzarley
Too bad the old sign was destroyed in that storm...it would have been a lot easier to modify. The "Melrose Gate" replica was a cool idea for Paramount, but the design complicates things now. Personally, as a CF unit holder, I hope they don't rush to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to completely overhaul these external signs. Focusing on changes inside the park are a much more important immediate investment. (And, I'm not talking about "de-Paramountizing" the theming...I'm talking about things like maintenance, cleanliness, improved entertainment options, and other guest-affecting improvements.) But, when they do finally change the sign, how about a cool neon one like Valleyfair has?
CoastersRZ
Do you have a link to a pictured of the Valleyfair sign?
jzarley
^ No, I don't...I did a Google search and the only pic I found wasn't a very good one. I saw a really good image of it posted within the last couple of weeks (that's what made me think of it actually <g>) on Coasterbuzz (I believe), but I can't find it now. It's a neon sign with a lot of classic amusement park rides, and the neon is animated to look as though the rides are moving. It's pretty "retro" (it's probably an antique), but it's very cool. flightoffear1996
Remove the Paramount mountain looking thing and put a effiel tower in its place. In speaking of ride times do you think Kings Island will see the signs with the wait time out in front like Cedar Point has?

Doing so in a rather tacky fashion would not only be fast and economical for now, but it would even emphasize that change is coming to Kings Island (and probably make Woofer very happy!) I have to disagree with that last statement alone, covering up the paramount part of the sign in a "fast tacky" manner would be just that...tacky! Besides, people know that change is coming I do believe, as most everyone has heard of Firehawk by now. If part of the sign is just covered for a full season, although it removes Paramount from the name, it would really look unprofessional on Cedar Fair's part. For some reason I keep imagining a Big black tarp or trashbag, or even white canvas covering the Paramount part of the sign, and its givin' me chills, I hope they dont do that! And someday said covering would come undone on a corner, and drape over the K and the d and you would have "ings Islan"! I know the example is a tad dramatic, but it would look bad to say the least! CoastersRZ
And see, that is why I see the park doing nothing to the sign until they come up with a permanent fix. They aren`t going to waste time and money on a temporary fix. Part of why it likely won`t be fixed for this season is that Cedar Fair is going to want to spread out some of these expenses over a period of time, as opposed to doing all the expenses at one time. Back when I was in the hotel business and my company would acquire a property of another brand, we were usually required to immediately re-brand the hotel due to requirements of the previous owner's franchise agreement. We would put a big, plastic cover with our logo over the old sign (of course, at night, you could see the old logo's lights shining through). Within the company, we always referred to this as the "sign condom." It was always considered a high priority to get the "condom" off the sign and our permanent signage installed ASAP
marlfox_21
So here's the question I pose to you - do you think they'll just remove the Paramount logo, or do you think they'll replace it with something else? The insider says that Great America is ("RUMORED")!!!!! No confusion with the word facts there....("RUMORED")!!!!! to be called Knotts Great America before it's opening day. m.f.

Outdoor Man
I would venture to say it's a project for 2008. The sign is asthetically pleasing and looks fine. And besides, don't they have a contractural right to use the name for a few years? I think someone had a great idea on here earlier of placing an Eiffel Tower where the mountain is... hopefully its not one of those cookie cutter CF flags. PKIPoodle
yeah, little things first. i think im going to miss paramount story more than the sign, though. and yeah i hope its not that same tall rectangle logo that ive seen all over. it should at least be a little more park-specific than that. (or at least better looking, i think that logo is boring)

Well so far they haven't done that, if they really were trying to de-paramountize everything employees would have recieved new uniforms, everything in the park would have recieved a new logo, new brochures...and had a normal guest walked in the park in August they really wouldn't have noticed any physical changes which I think was very smart of Cedar Fair
