From Cedar Point's blog:

The good news is here!

We didn’t think we’d be updating this quickly, but boy, this is gonna knock yer spurs off!

Maverick will officially open to the public on Saturday, May 26!

The wait is over. Grab yer friends, parents, children, sisters, cousins twice removed and get on out here this weekend!

In addition to the good news, there’s more.

The first 3,000 riders on Saturday, Sunday and Monday will each receive a FREE T-shirt just for being some of the first to challenge our 17th coaster!

If that weren’t enough, on Monday, May 28, the first 500 Joe Cool Club members to ride Maverick will receive a complimentary Maverick pullover fleece! Riders must show their Joe Cool Club membership at Maverick’s exit to receive a voucher, good for one free fleece. One per Joe Cool Club member only.

Oh yeah, and the surprise we had for you…

Even though you didn’t see it in the animation or original plans, we’ve installed what are known as “water bombs” that will explode as each train dives over the lagoon after the second launch! They’ll go off in sequence adding to the adventure and excitement of the ride.

The two of us will be at Maverick on Saturday to get your first impressions of the ride. Stop by, ride and say hello!

YEEEEE-HAAAAW!

Boy, that was fast!

That was very unexpected. Is CF doing the T-Shirt thing willal lnew rides? If so then why shouldnt Gold Pass members get a free fleece to. I sould still rather be there for Firehawk.

Good grief that was fast. They fabricated new track and installed it already. I wonder if they have the same 300 cycle warmups that Kings Island has. Guess they're going to be haulin' to get that mustang ready to gallop by this weekend.

Also I wonder if they fabricated these new pieces in Europe - or if they contracted such a quick job to some place like CSF up here in Batavia.

According to pointbuzz and all the news websites, the track was fabricated in Europe, flown to new york, and trucked to CP.... that speeds up the process alot apparently! along with over night installation..

it really doesn't take too too long to install just 2 peices of track...i remember watching them lay down the first pieces of track while unloading a truck in the plush barn and well it didn't take long...later in the week it seemed like half the track was up

Actually it was four pieces to install.

Not only that, but it's not just a matter of brining in a crane and installing a few new pieces. Think of it this way: How will the forces be changed on the rider? On the train? How will this change the forces and velocity for the rest of the cycle? All of which are things that seriously need to be considered when changing anything with a ride.
